I’ve been pretty depressed this year, and I’ve been struggling to figure out exactly why.

Like, there’s a lot of shit going on and that’s probably enough of a reason. But I can usually handle the things that are out of my power to change directly (I can’t directly change the entire governing and economic situation of my country, but I can and do work towards change in myriad ways - in such things, I tend to be hopeful even when it’s against reason).

So why have I been so sad?

Because the rhetoric of hatred is an insidious thing. A miasma that suffocates and drips into rivulets that worry and wither and cause even the strongest stones to fracture at the smallest cracks.

So, without thinking I’ve minimized myself. Perhaps hoping that a smaller stone would yield fewer such cracks. But small stones grind smaller still in rivulets-become-rivers-become-seas until only the fractious sands remain.

No. I must be the mountain. I must make myself so large that after eons of erosion I will still stand tall. I must become the Makhonjwa, the Guiana Highlands, the Appalachians.

I must be so large that ecosystems shift around me, that winds and waves break against me. That even as rivers cut through me, my form remains.

When a mountain weeps, we name their tears as life-giving springs. So, if I must weep, let my tears be in effort to bring forth new life.

therefore, all men should produce milk, through various means such as:
