If you're struggling to write sex, write food. if you're struggling to write food, write gore. if you're struggling to write gore, write sex. They're all variations on the same themes.
it's all sensation and consumption and intimacy. it's all violence and beauty and taste. it's all wild and animalistic and elevated by our humanity. it's all deeply cultural and symbolic. it's all enjoyed by every sense the body has to offer.

firmly believe that there could've been an insane amount of content with wulbren and barcus together if instead of being blue ass gnomes they were like. sexy twinkish white elves. like they are THE definition of the toxic old men yaoi. wulbren even already does his smoky eyes every day like a sad evil blorbo but you guys don't care because he's 3'5" and bald

October Leaves
POV: Faith Lehane
Pairing: Willow/Faith
Word count: 6,562
S7 AU
She comes to you in October. When the leaves are falling all red and golden from the trees that overlook the Northern California Womenâs Facility. They fall like rain and you watch them from the window in your cell. When the wind gets high some of them blow into the yard, and in the two precious hours youâre allowed out there you get to pick a few up, and it makes you feel free, makes you feel like a kid again. You pick up a big one - a perfect crisp orange leaf with three prongs, that looks like it came out of a picture book. And it makes you remember what freedom was like. What childhood was like.
But itâs bullshit. Because childhood wasnât picture books and picking up leaves, not for you. And freedom wasnât floating innocently around in the autumn breeze. It was knives and blood and mistakes and shitty shitty feelings and all the reasons youâre locked up here now. You crumble the leaf inside your fist, and go back inside.
A desperate cleric slamming every healing spell so hard to bring someone back to life the ground is forced to grow plants and flowers around the body.
Decades later, guarded by a forest of roses and thorns, lies a corpse refusing to rot.

use comic sans to write
i hate this so much but this knowledge is too powerful to keep from you all.
last night @phaltu discovered that setting your font to comic sans in google docs improves writing speed and creativity by an insane amount. ânoâ i said and âdieâ but then i tried it and god. i wish it wasnât this way. i wish it wasnât true. i wish i could protect you all from this but itâs real.Â
something about this font is so disarming. something about this font lets you look past the shape of the words and into their soul. iâve never written so much as i did last night, on my phone, at 2am, in comic sans.
if you have writerâs block. if you lack inspiration. if you need this. donât be afraid to use it. sometimes the things we find most horrifying are also the things we need the most. trust me. let comic sans into your life.
itâs true
update: this actually works. iâm so angry.
my friend told me about this and I laughingly suggested it to my wife (who had a good number of essays to write and less than a week to write them). She finished 3 essays in 2 days using comic sans.
She was livid.
my fifth grade teacher made us write all our papers in comic sans đ¤ˇđťââď¸
spend a day or two getting to know the fonts on your system. Pick out the following:
One serif font (like Times New Roman, but not Times New Roman. Casalon, Garamond, look for one that you like. This is a âfinal fontâ for printed papers, for the body of the paper.
Two Sans Serif fonts, one that looks really good in bold, and the other Verdana or something similar. The bold one (Arial is fine, I guess.) is for headlines, and should be used at the very end of your formatting after youâve written everything. The one that is readable and friendly is a final font for things that are more likely to be read on screen.
And last, pick out a REALLY basic font like Comic Sans (but itâs far from the only one of its ilk) and use that to write in.
I actually write in Verdana most of the time. I have my google doc preferences set to that. (Note that if you use Google Doc styles, you can do big font changes in the style, rather than selecting the whole damn document every time. Only use styles if doing so doesnât slow you down.)
Remember that the font you write in is 97% irrelevant to the final result. You should ALWAYS be switching fonts as a late editing stage, so that you will catch typos you missed due to acclimating to the letter shapes of the font you do your main work in.
This is an executive function prop, like, oh, packing a lunch and picking out clothes the night before to make it easier to get out the door when youâre too tired to brain.
*note on finished text fonts: Times New Roman is very standard and useful for submissions, so as not to annoy editors. Palatino is very wide, and takes up a lot of room, if youâre working by page count and your teacher doesnât mind, it can flesh things out. Only use it if you havenât been told to use a specific font. If you are, on the other hand, making a zine or some such, Garamond is incredibly narrow and still readable, which may allow you to boost your font size a little and not take up more space than Times would at a smaller font size. Caslon is just pretty. Your main choice of text font should have included italics, bold, condensed if you ever do anything more fancy than slapping text on a page.
For screen reading fonts, I use the Google Fonts database to pick out fonts that are particularly useful for me. I like ones where the p/q/b/d are not rotations of each other, and where the script capitals are highly and rapidly legible.
This may sound complicated, but itâs really like, oh, deciding on a daily uniform. You make the choice once and then you donât have to think about it most of the time unless something special comes up. Set up structures so you donât have to brain. If writing in comic sans helps you not have to brain more than necessary, write in comic sans.
What do you mean by That's Not A Deer in the mountains near you????
Anyone who spends decent amount of time in Appalachia knows the Not Deer. If youâve gone on the Blue Ridge Parkway at night, youâve probably seen him. Now: keep in mind if you donât live in an area with a lot of deer, deer are freaky bastards on their own. Theyâre really big, extremely agile, move surprisingly quietly, and are extremely durable. Itâs not unheard of for someone to hit a deer and total their car. Once I heard a story of a man who hit a deer on accident and decided to take it home and least get some good meat out of a bad situation. On the drive home the deer woke up and absolutely shredded the inside of this manâs trunk. Theyâre very cute but you definitely donât want to mess with one. Just keep that relationship in the back of your mind. Anyway, the Not Deer is more or less what Iâd call a folk cryptid. Everybody has their story about it. Theyâre all somewhat similar. Youâre in a car at night, in a rural, heavily wooded area, and probably a bit lost. Itâs not wildly uncommon to see a opossum crossing the road, see blips of little animals with your headlights. You see a deer. So you/your friends go âOh! Deer!â and slow down in case it leaps in front of you. Then you see it more clearly. Thereâs just something wrong about it. Thereâs something about its eyes. You feel your stomach get heavy like a rock, the hair on your neck raise. You sense intelligence that you shouldnât. It doesnât move like a deer, it moves like a⌠oh god, what is that thing? Whatever that thing is, itâs not a deer and we need to leave. You hit the gas and get the hell out of there.A group of my friends got lost on the Parkway once and reemerged with a chilling story. They arenât the kind of folks to lie or over exaggerate. Among other freaky stuff that happened, the driver claimed she saw a deer in the road. Then she noticed the deer was on two legs.Â
I have a story about the Not Deer from two summers ago. I lived deep in the Appalachia mountains at the time, unlike the foothills Iâm in now. I was wandering in the woods, probably two thirds of a mile from my house at that point, as one does when they live two miles down a twisting dirt road with the nearest town (and therefore things to do) thirty minutes away, when I heard brush moving. I knew it was probably a harmless animal- a possum, or a deer, maybe a particularly destructive rabbit, and I turned to look.
well. hm. it was a deer in the way that a graveyard is a playground. you can treat it as such, I guess, but it wonât feel the same.
it was about thirty feet away from me, staring. wild deer donât stare at random people to begin with- they just run away. she was breathing hard and making a low rumbling sound. I didnât really know what to do, and I hadnât really thought about the dangers of going near wild animals even if they are âharmlessâ deer, so I went towards her.
I swear to god, this thingâs eyes blanked out and it took a couple jerking steps forward, moving really strangely? and I flinched, because what the hell, and then she ran off to the side while staring at me until she was about fifty feet away. it was deeply unsettling in a way that I canât explain and I know that that thing was not quite a deer.
I sprinted all the way home.
Iâve seen something like this myself. I would say âThe joints went the wrong wayâ but it was more that there might have been more or less joints than youâd expect? The bends were not where the bends go. And the shape of the face was wrong in a way Iâd describe as: You have a friend who only draws wolves. Theyâre really, really, really good at wolves. You want them to draw a deer. They try their best, and neither of you are exactly pleased with the results. There was also an issue of scale - like you gave a deer the proportions of a moose.
Iâve heard âDeerâ comes from âDeorâ which just means âbeastâ or âquadrupedâ so⌠it was definitely a Deor, but 100% not a Deer.Â
I collect spooky stories from other people and a friend once told me about driving back from a âghost huntâ out in SE Oklahoma, seeing what they described as âlike a deerâ that stood in the middle of the road, and refused to move. So when one of them got out to go shoo it away by hand they all realized, about the same time⌠that it was only almost a deer. They described the collective reaction as wildly disproportionate to what they remember having seen - which was just ⌠not quite a deer?
They said there was about fifteen minutes of foot to the floor speeding before they all, right about the same time, felt a change in mood come over them and they began to sob like âlittle scared kidsâ. It was only weeks later that they were like âYou know⌠deer donât look anything like that.â
âAphroditeâs thirst was never quenched; it was cruel and dreamy. It was certainly the most splendid kind of thirst.â
