I think it was Jasper who made a post answering someone's question about the idea of Messianic Jews where they recommended talking to you on the matter. If you are comfortable, can you explain what that is and what the controversy around it is. I don't know much of anything about Judaism and have only recently started learning about your religion so I apologize if any of this is disrespectful. I love coming across posts about Judaism and Jewish culture and do appreciate every learning opportunity.
Thank you and I hope you have a wonderful day.
Hiya! The full answer can get a bit in-depth but I’ll give the basic overview of it.
Basically, Messianics are folks that claim to be Jewish but still recognize Jesus as the messiah. Heavy emphasis on how Jesus was initially Jewish so all of his followers count too, I guess. Make no mistake, they’re not Jewish. It’s an offshoot of Baptism. Messianic Judaism is not recognized as Jewish by any Jewish body of authority and they still receive funding from the Baptist church. Not to mention how Jesus being the messiah goes against very fundamental views of how the messiah is even supposed to work in Judaism.
Christians and particularly Baptists recognize Messianics as being in a unique position to convert Jewish people to Christianity. I’ve known someone who referred to Messianic Jews as “complete.” We don’t want to be proselytized to and definitely don’t want to convert.
What’s more, they tend to cherry pick parts of Judaism to imitate and often bastardize it in the process. Passover Seders are a big one, especially because a modern Seder looks nothing like what Jesus would have practiced at the time. Passover is deeply tied to Jewish identity and doesn’t really work if you do it outside of a Jewish context. In my area, Christians imitating Passover buy up all the matzah at the grocery store so you have to get in quick if you see it.
Tldr; they’re not Jewish and they kinda suck.
Is this you?

Woah! Not my video/account, but certainly my story. Guess it’s finally being regurgitated into Minecraft post-reading AI voiceover slop 😂

idk if you knew this but the "basic human empathy has to make a comeback" post is genuinely quite ableist. there are people who have no or low empathy because of their neurodivergent conditions and they are not inherently rude or bad. also personally, i have high empathy at times and it is sometimes so debilitating that i end up making others pain about myself and am not able to be a good helper. sympathy and compassion are much more important than empathy when it comes to acts of kindness.
This feels like a “piss on the poor” argument to me, tbh. Naturally the post is meant to apply to people who don’t have anything physically limiting their capacity for empathy and just choose not to exercise it. People who punch down, people who harass strangers or dismiss other people’s problems because they aren’t existing “correctly” or don’t have the exact same perfect takes as you. Nowhere did it say that neurodivergent folks with limited empathy are evil or bad.
Also, “empathy” doesn’t always mean that you literally feel exactly what another person does, just that you can relate to the feeling and understand it in a personal way. Sympathy is just “wow, that sucks for you sorry dude.” I would not consider hyper-empathy to the point of debilitating you to be “basic human empathy.”
Hey, I hope you don't mind a more personal ask. What was your shift back to Judaism like? I grew up as an unusual kind of Christian observing things like Saturday as the Sabbath (not Adventist, though), and the honest truth is that I've been interested in converting to Judaism for years. Something feels like home, and things have been strange for me lately in a way that's different from before. It started with a Haggadah out of an Amazon mystery box passed on by my recovery worker. My love of religion isn't much of a secret.
Fun fact, reading it made me remember the time I very confusedly asked my great-grandma why we weren't just Jewish. Let's just say I never really understood what made Jesus different. The whole thing about me being a history nerd doesn't help matters much. She answered, but I didn't expect her to be as offended by my question. Usually my curiosity was encouraged.
There's also a part of me that really just wanted to tell you that I ended up with the book in the first place. It just took a while to process everything. The results of attempting contact in 2022 were about as big of an overeager fumble as you can imagine. My social skills needed more work, among other things. But it's going better this time, and I'm just in the waiting game because of busy schedules all around. And the few close friends I know are Jewish sadly aren't local, so I don't get to see them very often.
When I talked to the cantor over the phone, what I technically said was that something felt familiar, though I did want to say 'like home' instead. It's getting harder to contain my excitement.
That’s exciting, best of luck on your journey!
To answer your question, I don’t know if it necessarily felt like “coming home” to me since I was born Jewish, so I always knew I had that heritage and connection even if I didn’t pay much attention to it. For me it was more like finally feeling comfortable at home and appreciating. Realizing it resonated more with me as an adult than I gave it credit for. It’s a puzzle piece I knew was there, but finally found where it fits.

People with low spoons, someone just recommended this cookbook to me, so I thought I’d pass it on.
I always look at cookbooks for people who have no energy/time to do elaborate meal preparations, and roll my eyes. Like, you want me to stay on my feet for long enough to prepare 15 different ingredients from scratch, and use 5 different pots and pans, when I have chronic fatigue and no dishwasher?
These people seem to get it, though. It’s very simple in places. It’s basically the cookbook for people who think, ‘I’m really bored of those same five low-spoons meals I eat, but I can’t think of anything else to cook that won’t exhaust me’. And it’s free!

Sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is clean your room, open the window, and let the air move again. Energy needs circulation just like lungs do.
“you’re such a ray of sunshine!” thanks! one day i chose to act happy and then i kept choosing it over and over and over and over until the neurological pathways formed like desire paths in the thicket. i dug and clawed my nails into the grooves of my brain and carved out joy. i retouch it every day.

People who claim that cracker or yank are slurs painfully revealing that they think slurs are just mean things to call someone and not language used by oppressors to dehumanize groups of people they think are lesser.
