okay, we managed to get through the βyou can be gay and not have sexβ part, and im feeling charitable and i wanna talk about the βdo crimeβ part
so many responses of βits nice that youβre privileged enough to be able to steal from Target willy nilly!β and thatβs not at all what this is about. like, yeah, shoplifting and loitering and graffiti and breaking the rules is, obviously, part of βdo crimeβ. but theyβre not parts you have to do.
would you help someone get an abortion where it was illegal?
would you help a trans friend get healthcare that had been criminalized?
would you shelter someone fleeing persecution, even if the law said not to?
would you help a gay couple stay together when the state decided their relationship was unlawful?
would you report someone else for breaking the law? will you snitch on your hungry neighbors for stealing food? on your homeless neighbors for sleeping where theyβre able?
would you break laws to protect someone you love? a community you love? yourself?
Transphobia is so antithetical to genuine feminism it blows my mind there's such a wide overlap like you either believe in autonomy and self determination or you don't

Could I suggest a picture of Dawntreader Texas Calboy? He is a beautiful male calico cat who is a chimera. He's also somewhat controversial among some cat fancy associations since he is a male cat with female colors, and some people are strangely transphobic towards him, despite him being a cat? There was even a rule implemented to keep him from competing in a cat show. If you look up his name, he made a few news articles.
Yeah you're right about beautiful I'm squeezing him until he pops!!!!! I love this guy I think I'm going to make an edit real quickly Calboy I love you I'm so sorry people are calling you a freak??????
To be fair, I don't think he was referring to the cat (who wasn't there) but to the cat's owner (who is a woman and who the author had been asking if anyone could point them in her direction).
Still hilarious that they're pitching a fit over a boy cat being calico, tho. Like idk man maybe your cat show rules are stupid if you're going to gender-lock coloring? /shrugs just me, maybe.
also, hang on - why DON'T they allow three-legged cats? You mean to tell me if an absolutely perfect show cat has some sort of tragic accident resulting in losing a limb (obviously incredibly unlikely considering how pampered these animals are but like WHAT IF), that could no longer be shown?
So I'm not sure about what happens if a show cat has an accident (like if it was hit by a car or something) but limb difference due to genetics or something like cancer is a DQ from pedigree competition because it can indicate something bad you don't want in your preservation breeding gene pool (i.e. it could lead to unhealthy offspring if you were to breed the cat). This is especially true for issues that can be considered "desirable" (like dwarfism), because breeding those on purpose is not considered by CFA to be good for the cat or its offspring, and drives demand for unscrupulous backyard breeding.
Three legged cats to my understanding are allowed in Household Pet π
Edit to add: @ruffboi-mags it's not the color itself that's the problem. Calico gene expression is a sex-linked trait associated with female cats, which in a male cat indicates an abnormality in the cat's genetics. While that isn't an inherently bad thing for the cat, assuming no other health problems arise from it, it's likely a disqualification from pedigree judging because CFA doesn't want to encourage the breeding of cats that are genetically abnormal for novelty purposes.
So that should be the only response they give. "Because we do not want to encourage intentional breeding of genetic abnormalities that could be harmful to the cats, we do not allow this trait in pedigree competitions."
Pretty easy.
I mean that said i think a large amount of pedigree standards (and the people creating/upholding them) are not nearly as concerned about the health of an animal's genetics as you or they would like us to believe, considering THIS is the first face you see on the CFA's page on Persians
there are ways to breed persians without such extreme brachycephalic traits, but then they generally don't meet pedigree breed standards bc their noses aren't short enough. And since they're the most low-hanging fruit for argument if they try to say they're excluding something to not encourage breeding that could be genetically detrimental to the animals, I'd guess their clear hypocrisy is probably why they don't just say that. Because it's not true, it's just their justification.
Also, if you think Persians aren't the same thing because it was just the result of long intentional breeding rather than a genetic abnormality, fine: you want to know what breed is entirely based on a genetic abnormality that is provably tied to actual detrimental health issues that the CFA DOES recognize (and thus contributes to the continued novelty breeding of)?
Scottish Folds.
So yeaaaaah, I'm much more inclined to believe that certain people did not want a BOY cat with a GIRL coat coloring winning a title than there being any actual concern about novelty breeding (or frankly the health and overall well-being of the cat or his offspring) when they made that ruling.
There's an even more blatant reason it's not about genetic health and breeding:
They're sterile.
Klinefelter syndrome, which is what causes this coat expression in males, results in non-viable sperm production. Male calicos are terile, so they literally cannot be bred.
Buckle up, buccaneers, because it's turtle time. We travel to the swamps and streams of the Amazon in search of this raggedy reptile. The mata mata is truly the world's skrunkliest turt and it has carved out an interesting niche in the world.
(Image: a mata mata out of water. It is a turtle with a light brown shell that has spiked ridges running down it. The feet have webbed toes and claws. The neck and head are disproportionately large and have a ragged appearance. The head is flat and triangular, with small eyes and nostrils on a tubular nose. End ID)
Mata mata refers to two closely related species of freshwater turtle: the Amazonian mata mata (Chelus fimbriata) and Orinoco mata mata (Chelus orinocensis).Prior to 2020,these were classified as the same species and both have a very similar anatomy and lifestyle. Mata matas are large turtles, with a carapace length up to 45 cm (18 in) and weight of 17.2 kg (38 lbs). Their shells have many spines and ridges while the body, especially the large neck and head, has many skin flaps, tubercles, and ridges. The body and shell are primarily brown to black. This has the effect of making the turtle look like decaying bark and leaves, an effective form of camouflage. The nose is very long, with nostrils at the tip, which, when combined with the long neck, allows the turtle to reach the water's surface to breathe while staying on the bottom. The chin has some short sensory barbels growing from it.
(Image: a mata mata in an aquarium. It is sitting on some rocks with its neck outstretched to reach the surface. End ID)
Mata matas are native to the Amazonian and Orinoco river basins, where they prefer slow-moving waters with low visibility, such as streams, backwaters, and swamps. They are primarily carnivorous, but have been known to eat plants, possibly to supplement their diets or by accident. They are sit and wait predators whose hunting strategy is to sit very still among vegetation. Their camouflage allows them to remain unnoticed by prey. When prey draws close, the turtle opens its mouth. This creates a vacuum, drawing water and prey into the mouth. The turtle then closes its mouth, forcing the water out, and swallows the prey whole. Unlike snapping turtles, who have a similar sit and wait hunting style, the mata mata has weak jaws with fleshy lips rather than beaks and thus cannot bite prey into chunks. It therefore has to feed on animals small enough to swallow whole. Their diet consists of small fish, frogs, and invertebrates. Because they inhabit waters with very low visibility, mata matas have very poor eyesight and rely on other senses to tell when prey is near. Mata matas have also been known to herd groups of fish into shallow water before eating. Unlike many other aquatic turtles, mata matas rarely come ashore to bask in the sunlight. They are also very poor swimmers and mostly crawl along the bottom of their habitats.
(Image: a mata mata facing the camera with its mouth open. The mouth is very wide and takes up most of the head. End ID)
Mata matas display sexual dimorphism. Females are generally larger, though not by that much. Males have longer, thicker tails than females as well as a concave plastron (lover shell) as opposed to the female's flat plastron. Mating occurs late in the year, around October. Males will seek out females and engage in a courtship dance that involves playing out the limbs, wiggling the skin flaps, and extending the heat toward the female while opening and closing his mouth. During mating, the male mounts the female. His concave plastron helps him stay on her shell without falling off. The female will emerge from the water to lay her eggs. She will bury them either in sand or decaying vegetation to keep them warm. She then leaves and neither parent provides parental care. The gestation period varies depending on temperature, up to 200 days at low enough temperatures. In other turtle species, the temperature of the eggs determines the sex of the hatchling. I could not find any references describing how or if this is the same in mata matas. Hatchlings have to scramble their way into the water. Juvenile mata matas have pink plastrons that darken to brown as they age. The maximum age of mata matas in the wild is unknown. In captivity, they usually live for 15 years, but sometimes up to 30.
(Image: a juvenile mata mata held in hand. It is held so the underside is facing the camera, displaying the pink color of the plastron. It is smaller than a cell phone. End ID)
Both species of mata mata are classified at least concern by the IUCN, meaning they are not in danger of extinction. Their primarly threat comes from habitat loss as more and more parts of their rivers are taken over fro land development. Mata matas are also edible and sometimes caught for food. Their unusual appearances have made them somewhat popular in the pet trade and wild mata mata are often caught for this purpose.

i think MORE characters should be rape survivors. i think more characters should be csa survivors. i think more characters should be dv survivors. i think strong and noble and attractive and charming and brilliant characters with indomitable spirits should be survivors. i think the most powerful characters in the world should be survivors. i think characters who are cultural icons should be survivors. i think victims and survivors should see ourselves in the most admirable and beloved characters around! i think we should be protagonists!!!
#βitβs so unnecessaryβ . okay . god yea this one drives me CRAZY. people will yap all day long about how it's "unnecessary" to make a character a survivor like do you think it was necessary for any of us to be abused or raped irl? was it narratively essential? did it teach the audience an important lesson? why do we, who have to justify our experiences and existences and reactions all the time in real life, also have to justify why we should exist in fiction? people act so repulsed by the thought of us. i've really fully and truly had enough of that. there is nothing so uniquely disgusting or repulsive or unspeakable about our victimhood or our survival that justifies this obsession with keeping the reality of our existence hidden
"oh but talking about it can be triggering for victims :(((" you know what else is triggering? living in a world that insists that we cannot be open and honest about what happened to us. maybe if we had, oh, i don't know, prominent examples in our cultural stories of people who are victims and are competent and strong it might be easier (for everyone, not just victims) to have the discussions we actually need to have about our trauma.

This event is centred around OCs (original characters). While customisable video game protagonists (e.g. tav/durge (bg3), warden/hawke/inquisitor/rook (dragon age), the rogue trader (rogue trader), etc.) are welcomed, canon characters should be relegated to background characters in works made for this event, if included at all.
By choosing to take part in this event, you confirm that you are both of legal age and mature enough to take part in an event centred around dark and potentially triggering topics.
While no one is obligated to interact with topics they do not wish to, there will be zero tolerance on attempts at censorship, kinkshaming, harassment, or bullying of any kind. Anyone who partakes in this behaviour will be excluded from this and all future events.
Prompts may be interpreted however you wish! Feel free to take one, two, or even all three prompts for a given day, combine them, make separate works for each one, whatever calls to you; there's no "right way" to take part. Additionally, there is no limit as to how many works you can create for any given day. Want to write two different fics for the same characters for the same prompt? Go for it! Want to draw two different art works for two different characters for the same prompt? Hell yeah! Go nuts, show guts. Or, y'know, whatever.
Please tag your posts with #unwholesomeocweek so we can all peruse everyone's creations! While not necessary, feel free to @ this blog too, if you would like to. I'll be going through the tag and reblogging everyone's works here as much as I can during the week, but if you believe your post has been missed and you have followed all the guidelines set out here, please send an ask to this blog off anon in case I've missed it!
Additionally, if you are posting your work to AO3, add it to the collection! This will open the day before the event starts (31st May) and remain open for a month after the end of the event (7th July) to catch any late entries.
All works reblogged to this blog will be tagged for common triggers with the format "trigger tw" (e.g. rape tw, incest tw, etc). While not an obligation, participants are encouraged to include tags in the same format on their original post for ease of filtering. If there are any specific triggers anyone would like tagging, please send an ask to this blog and I will do my best to accommodate you. (Note: this can be on or off anon, at your preference.)
While including trigger tags is a courtesy, works that include neither tags nor content warnings in the body of the post will not be reblogged to this blog. (Note: where the content warning is the prompt, it is not necessary to include a warning in addition to the prompt (e.g., if the prompt is sexual assault, it is not necessary to include a warning for this in the body of the post so long as the prompt is included). If your post is a link to a fic hosted elsewhere, including a screenshot of e.g. AO3 tags is an acceptable alternative.)
Works made using generative ai are not welcome in this event.
Works set in the harry potter universe, or making use of its canon or lore, are not welcome in this event.
It was fascinating, really. The cold stiffness of their bodies as they slumbered. A corpse, yet not. A sleeping man, yet dead. As Gio explored James' body under the protection of daylight, he couldn't help but take advantage of the... stiff pliability available to him. It was still James. Just... asleep. Just dead.
I didn't bother Gio as much as it should.
And once he found out, James didn't fight back as much as he should, either.
@unwholesomeocweek <3
LORE AND CONTEXT: Gio was rescued by James after being trapped inside a timeless Fae dungeon for decades. In this AU, he's now an young adult who grew up around the vampires who saved him, and unwilling to deal with James' reservations, Gio decided to deal with his desire on his ownβwithout James' input.
(Just for funsies, Gio's also kind of a shapeshifter and his blood feels like LSD KASPAKS)
I won't tag as non-con because James likes Somnophilia to the point of giving unsaid blanked consent to anyone he trusts even just a little. He's just, you know, dead, and mostly surrounded by other vampires, so it's hard for anyone to take upon the offer.
I saw a bumper sticker and thought βis that seductive Daffy Duckβ and then when I looked closer I realized it was actually a fishing bumper sticker but also. also it is still very much seductive Daffy Duck???? somehow????????

"Ugh whyyy are there so many origin/-genic labels, they're so weird and confusing, it's super cringe and they're probably all just fa-"
It's literally just the same thing as xenogenders.
"What?"
People like labels. Big, well-known labels exist to be broad and cover a lot of ground. However, each individual's experience is unique. People want labels that perfectly fit them, so they make their own. And boom, that's how you get thousands of different hyper-specific labels.
"That's it?"
Yes.
"..."
...What, Mr. Strawman?
"Still cringe tho"
You're fine to think that, so long as you don't harass anyone over it.
literally how every word in language happens - people need to describe an experience and there isn't a word yet, and they get tired of saying "you know, the thing that-" and just come up with a word for it instead
funny that it's "cringe" when it's marginalised people's experience that's being named
