conspiracy theory: people on other social media sites keep saying tumblr is dead so they can mine us for resources without anyone else going to the source
half the comments on any given tumblr screenshot post are like "wow I miss tumblr, shame it died" and the screenshot is from, like, last tuesday

Iâm reblogging this from a guy I have pictures of passed out in my house with cat on him.
One fun fact about cattle that you may not know is that they are fairly strong swimmers and they do like water.
My childhood home was next to a river and on the other side of that river, there were roughly 200 cows and their calves. During the hot Virginia summer, some of the cows would make their way down the bank of the river and stand up to their chest in the cool flowing water. Sometimes they drunk it, sometimes they played in it but mostly they just stood and stared at you on the opposite bank. At one point before we had bought the house I grew up in, there was a particular cow introduced into the herd who came from a farm where she was regularly required to ford a stream to get to the next paddock. Naturally, she began fording the river (no small feat, the river was relatively deep and wide and the bank on our side was steep and 20 feet tall in places) and entering our yard. Our front yard was a large floodplain, always full of clover and wild flowers and other small plants cattle consider to be delicious. She taught some of the other ladies in her herd to cross the river to the greener grass on the other side.
Naturally, this wouldnât do and the rancher got rid of her. I like to think he sold her to another farm where she could teach other cows bad habits because for all her faults, she was a good mother.
By the time we moved in, none of the cows crossed the river. They just stood submerged in the stream and enjoyed each otherâs company and the cool water. If you sat on the opposite bank or canoed past them, they would stare and low at you but make no effort to move out of your way. Occasionally one of their friends would gallop down the bank to join them in their berating of this human intruder to their summer fun. I think they never lost that resentment towards the greener grass on the other side.

i have 15 yearsâ worth of outstanding library fines in three separate cities and itâs my hope that eventually a bounty hunter librarian will come to collect and weâll get in a bar fight and fall in love
I also canât rent movies in two different towns so thereâs that.
Iâm newly terrified by the implication that librarians arenât people and Iâve misjudged what exactly Iâm up against
i have no self-control
two people unfollowed me for this and honestly i donât really blame them

fake relationship but its a king and his concubine that was once an amazing soldier but he couldnât go up the ranks for whatever reason so the king was like listen. hear me out. you can be my strategy dude. u just gotta be okay w walking around shirtless a lot. and soldier dude is like man thatâs an UPSIDE and yknow they end up falling in love
some idiot advisor: I canât believe his majesty lets his boytoy attend these council meetings, itâs an insult to the noble institutions that uphold our nation, itâs an outrageâ
a somewhat smarter advisor: youâre just mad bc he pointed out how dumb your naval attack strategy and no one laughed when you made a mean joke about him
Boytoy has gone from a top fighter who was well respected but in constant danger to wearing silks and eating grapes on daises. That fucked up rotator cuff was the best thing to ever happen to him
Bonus points: at least half the other concubines are experts in assorted fields, the monarch brings them to relevant meetings to both play up a reputation for frivolity, and make sure at least one person there doesnât have an outside agenda.
my harem?Â
did you mean: my chief strategic advisors
The kingdom is an absolute monarchy but the harem has become a secret meritocracy. The nobles and official advisors kind of side-eye His Majesty because wow some of these consorts must have likeâŚreally good personalities. Kings of the past have had their own specific tastes of course; size, shape, age, color, et cetera. More than one ruler has interviewed consorts feet first and Ardwin the Adventurousâs obsession - God rest him - with snuffling armpits like a sow rooting for mushrooms is well known despite never being alluded to in polite company.
The worst part of it is that the new king takes at least part of his harem with him everywhere and itâs so embarrassing. The Counselors of War have never once met with His Divine Majesty without that hulking battle-scarred consort interrupting with muttered growls or scornful snorts. And the Ministers of Finance all flinch at the sight of that fox-faced one, rumored to have been rescued from the gallows because His Augustness took a fancy to his eyes or some such nonsense. General petition days are even worse, with practically the entire harem drifting in and out of the Grand Hall in turns, insouciant and smug like granary cats who know theyâve been given full run of the courtyards and barns.
Itâs absolutely infuriating that the kingdom has never before known such a period of peace and prosperity under this ridiculous monarch.

The story of Balto is interesting. He led a team of sled dogs across the Alaskan wilderness in the dead of winter with diphtheria antitoxins to stop an outbreak in Nenana Alaska. Diphtheria is a deadly infectious disease that could wipe out a third of a townâs population. It is mostly unknown to the public today because of vaccines. Baltoâs body is preserved in the Cleveland Museum of Natural History.
Heâs a big hero of mine!
Letâs not forget Togo! Who, at 12 years old during the serum run, lead his team 200 miles through much more dangerous conditions during the first leg of the journey before Balto ran the last 55-mile stretch.
Togo and Balto didnât bust their asses for dying children for you to turn around and not vaccinate your damn kids
Once a little boy went to school. One morning The teacher said: âToday we are going to make a picture.â âGood!â thought the little boy. He liked to make all kinds; Lions and tigers, Chickens and cows, Trains and boats; And he took out his box of crayons And began to draw.
But the teacher said, âWait!â âIt is not time to begin!â And she waited until everyone looked ready. âNow,â said the teacher, âWe are going to make flowers.â âGood!â thought the little boy, He liked to make beautiful ones With his pink and orange and blue crayons. But the teacher said âWait!â âAnd I will show you how.â And it was red, with a green stem. âThere,â said the teacher, âNow you may begin.â
The little boy looked at his teacherâs flower Then he looked at his own flower. He liked his flower better than the teacherâs But he did not say this. He just turned his paper over, And made a flower like the teacherâs. It was red, with a green stem.
On another day The teacher said: âToday we are going to make something with clay.â âGood!â thought the little boy; He liked clay. He could make all kinds of things with clay: Snakes and snowmen, Elephants and mice, Cars and trucks And he began to pull and pinch His ball of clay.
But the teacher said, âWait!â âIt is not time to begin!â And she waited until everyone looked ready. âNow,â said the teacher, âWe are going to make a dish.â âGood!â thought the little boy, He liked to make dishes. And he began to make some That were all shapes and sizes.
But the teacher said âWait!â âAnd I will show you how.â And she showed everyone how to make One deep dish. âThere,â said the teacher, âNow you may begin.â
The little boy looked at the teacherâs dish; Then he looked at his own. He liked his better than the teacherâs But he did not say this. He just rolled his clay into a big ball again And made a dish like the teacherâs. It was a deep dish.
And pretty soon The little boy learned to wait, And to watch And to make things just like the teacher. And pretty soon He didnât make things of his own anymore.
Then it happened That the little boy and his family Moved to another house, In another city, And the little boy Had to go to another school.
The teacher said: âToday we are going to make a picture.â âGood!â thought the little boy. And he waited for the teacher To tell what to do. But the teacher didnât say anything. She just walked around the room.
When she came to the little boy She asked, âDonât you want to make a picture?â âYes,â said the little boy. âWhat are we going to make?â âI donât know until you make it,â said the teacher. âHow shall I make it?â asked the little boy. âWhy, anyway you like,â said the teacher. âAnd any color?â asked the little boy. âAny color,â said the teacher. And he began to make a red flower with a green stem.

âŚ
I hate that I hesitated to reblog this just because I expect people to think itâs pretentious or melodramatic when itâs seriously real as fuck and Iâve witnessed it
This is what happened to me. I was young, first grade.Â
All the other kids have one teacher, while I had two, though I was in the same class. I took recess by myself. When the otherâs took recess, I was constantly quizzed by my second teacher and shown how to color properly because âYou donât want your pictures to look like theirs, do you?â I just wanted to color.Â
When I was allowed to participate with the rest of the class, I felt odd. âHow fast does the earth move?â The main teacher asked. â100 miles an hour!â âOne bajillion miles a hour!â I raised my hand. âYes?â I swallowed and smiled. âI think itâs closer to 100,000 kilometers per hour.â I didnât guess, I stated a fact. I was happy. And proud. Because I knew the answer. But somehow, when the teacher said âThatâs correctâ, it was with a large amount of disappointment and odd looks from the other kids. What had I done wrong? I didnât answer questions anymore.
When I was in the class with my second teacher, we did reading flash cards. âWhat does this say?â âGovernment.â She frowned. âAnd just how do you know that?â I answered as simply as I could. âIt doesnât sound like itâs spelled. It has âGovernâ like the governor, and it has âmentâ that rhymes vent which is whatâs above us! Government!â âThatâs not how you learn words, you need to remember how to spell them. Try the next one.â Why did it matter? I remembered and could read it. So I had to learn the âcorrectâ way to spell and read.
So on and so on until 5th grade, when I was falling behind all the other students and was told to try harder and pay attention. âShow your work or it counts against you.â But I didnât have any work to show⌠45 X 3 just is 135. What work was I supposed to show when something was a fact? So I had to relearn math so my teacher didnât flunk me out.
This has followed me into adulthood. âThink outside the box.â I canât. There is a small area outside the box I am allowed and no further. That is what I have been taught. When someone wants something from you in this way, they want to know where it came from and for it to match their ideals⌠not something they canât understand or want to consider. And there is always a right answer, even if you are just coming up with ideas.
âDo you have any ideas on this matter?â My boss asks. I shrug. âItâs not something for me weigh in on, thatâs beyond my area.â
You broke me. You broke thousands of kids who could have been the new Tesla, Curie, or Einstein. And you wonder why new ideas arenât new? Because you told us, at a very early age, that a new idea must already conform to what you understand and are comfortable with.Â
Letâs think about how much more advanced we would be as a society if our school systems didnât break kids.
