one time I went over to a friend's house and their housemate was making paper in the living room, and we saw this big tub full of water they were using to dissolve old scrap paper into a slurry, and everyone was immediately like "oh, you need scrap paper?" and started turning out their jacket pockets and producing expired coupons and bus tickets and crumpled receipts and old shopping lists and whatever else they'd been carrying round with them for no good reason, and passing it all to the paper-making housemate to make sure it was suitable before it got torn up and dropped into the tub, while people took turns stirring the slurry with a big wooden stick. it was strangely ritualistic, like presenting an offering to some kind of temple elder for inspection before placing it in a watery shrine to be devoured and reformed. pulp for the pulp god.
Cnetizens: The wisdom of the working people
waaaay back when I was a cashier in retail we would talk about dumb shit while unloading the truck, and we got to the "what would you do in a zombie apocalypse" me and another worker were like yeah we would just die. End it all, we can't fight or run or shit. I refuse to put that much effort into survival.
And my manager was like no!!!! If that happened, I would drive to find you guys in my truck and we could eat stuff from my wife's garden and I would make sure everyone I know survived!! I would carry you all on my shoulders away from the zombies!!
Anyway, random shout out to that guy. You were too kind for retail management, Devin.

Tumblr being the "piss on the poor" reading comprehension site makes sense when you realize that 79% of adults in the US are functionally illiterate. Same goes for Twitter and TikTok.
that's a real high number, sport. where'd you get it?
hey anon
please tell me you didn't google "US literacy rates" and then make the funniest possible mistake one could make in that situation

I'm going to be annoying about it and from now on will continue calling my recorder a 'blockflute' because that's a direct translations of what most European languages actually call it anyway and also is just straight up a better name
also as a way to distinguish it from the cheap plastic flutes preschoolers play in music class
Actually! I'm going to complain more. It irritates me that the block flute often gets disrespected because of its association with being taught to children in schools when it used to be a well-respected instrument in Europe through the middle ages, renaissance and baroque periods. The block flute (recorder) used to be the flute, until the 18th century the word flute referred only to the block flute. Does the average person even know it's an entire family of block flutes? Children usually only get taught the soprano flute but they come in various sizes going down all the way to contrabass that's the size of a small person
Look. I fucking love folk music history and I can't stand that this beautiful instrument gets a bad reputation because of children's inability to play it properly. Just imagine if we collectively judged the violin as an instrument by the average 8 year old's ability to play it
Just listen! A low block flute quartet's sound is so soothing and warm. Idk, I just feel like it deserves so much more respect than it gets

Akasha probably found out about BBLs through the vampire hivemind and quickly decided it was time to wreak havoc on the world.

free use? *smirks snartly* so naive. you know nothing in this damned society is really free...
can't look up what snartly means because i don't have a dictionary account
(dry look) Nobody gets to tell me when to cringe. I reserve such assessments to those who have sufficient experience to correctly judge whatβs cringeworthy.

there's something so deeply dystopian to me how tech companies don't understand that a forced convenience is not a convenience at all. i'm sure autocorrect is helpful for many, but a function that forcibly changes my actual written words and punctuation is taking away my language. photo filters can be nice but i need to choose using them myself or else i have lost the ability to take the picture i want. i don't want a machine to draw or write for me. taking away the option for me to do things manually feels like violence!!!! all this talk of endless opportunity, why are you RESTRICTING me
