a horse tried to steal my hat today but it was too firmly cinched, suck it
I really admire your ability to just do shit. To make art, to try things. I don't want to impose, but how does one get this skill? How do you break away from the idea that you need permission?
I just don't think I've ever had it? I love creating and always have. I love watching my hands use objects to bring thoughts into reality. I started drawing before I could walk. If there is such a thing as a purpose, or a destiny, or a calling, I think mine is that.
I suppose my best advice is to forget the idea of permission at all
We often get taught from the very beginning that children are supposed to obey and do as they're told. You spend the majority of the most impactful learning period of your life with nearly every moment controlled; even when creativity is vocally encouraged, every situation from schooling to lack of children's rights engineers it so that everything else teaches you otherwise. Don't think outside the box, follow the instructions. Sit here, go there. Do as I say, because I said so.
Questioning authority is an automatic no.
Some people learn to rebel, some people learn to do as they're told, some people land somewhere in the middle. Everyone responds to it differently, and of course despite the systems at play, everyone grows up in slightly different environments that enforce different things. But all of us who become adults eventually have to learn how to be independent in a world where we've been raised to not think for ourselves.
The workforce, of course often tries to teach otherwise, but barring a job, your life is yours to live. Not anyone else's. As teaboot said: forget the idea of permission at all. The greatest gift of adulthood is, most often, the freedom to do as you please. Obviously everyone has different capabilities with their time and money and physical/emotional state, but the best gift you can give yourself as you grow older is to teach yourself to not need permission.
It might take time and it might take practice. Start with the little stuff if you need to. But learn to listen to your own body and your own mind, and your own needs, over what society tells you is right or what you think is expected of you, and there you will find the greatest joys.
I think one of the moments I first started to heal was when my therapist and I were making a collage, and she startled me by ripping a whole magazine in half while making it. I think I said, "whoah, didn't think you were so violent," and she replied: "Sometimes when you create, you have to tap into your destructive power."
Such a gentle, neutral framing of the things that sometimes must be done in order to live. Still stewing on that one.
buenas dias
buenas noches
i dont think its a "sin" to "destroy and betray yourself for nothing" because there's no such thing as sin, there's no such thing as yourself and there's no such thing as nothing. and destruction and betrayal are subjective. you're most likely totally fine.

Broccoli Knuckle Duster by David Delahunty
where are you going
Story time:
In middle school biology, we did an experiment. We were given yams, which we would sprout in cups of water. We then had to make hypotheses about how the yams would grow, based on descriptions of yam plants in our books, and make notes of our observations as they grew.
Here’s what was supposed to happen: we were supposed to see that the actual growth of the plant did not resemble our hypotheses. We were then supposed to figure out that these were, in fact, sweet potatoes.
What actually happened was that every single student in every single class lied in their notes so that their observations perfectly matched their hypotheses. See, everyone assumed the mismatch meant they had done something wrong in the process of growing the plant or that they had misunderstood the dichotomous key or the plant identification terminology. And, thanks to the wonders of a public school education, everyone assumed the wrong results would get us a failing grade. We were trying to pass. We didn’t want to get bitched out by the teacher. Curiosity, learning, science - that had nothing to do with why we were sitting in that classroom. So we all lied.
The teacher was furious. She tried to fail every student, but the administration stepped in and told her she wasn’t allowed to because a 100% fail rate is recognized as a failure of the teacher, not the class. It wasn’t even her fault, really, though her being a notorious hard-ass didn’t help. It was a failure of the entire educational system.
So whenever I see crap like Elizabeth Holmes’s blood test scam or pharmaceutical trials which are unable to be replicated or industry-funded research that reaches wildly unscientific conclusions, I just remember those fucking sweet potatoes. I remember that curiosity dies when people are just trying to give their superiors the “right” answers, so they can get the grade, get the job, get the paycheck. It’s not about truth when it’s about paying rent. There’s no scientific integrity if you can’t control for human desperation.

“my father is a boy and my mother is a girl so i’m mixed” is the funniest possible response to someone asking your gender and it came from 6’5 Viking footballer and notable weird little guy Erling Haaland on a Snapchat
