Why Necromancy Doesn't Exist is a fantasy Micro-RPG about magic, taxonomy, and petty academic disagreements. If you like making arguments for the sake of making arguments, compiling evidence to support a clearly ridiculous claim, or having in-depth discussions about fake things that don't matter -- well, that's what this game is about.
Why Necromancy Doesn't Exist will always be free, but if you enjoy it, check out my other games.

By the way, one of the major inspiration for this game was an in-game book in Skyrim where a scholar argues that the light spell should be classified as an illusion spell instead of an alteration spell.
Unfortunately, it's been years since I've played, and I can't remember what the book was called. If anyone remembers the title of that book, let me know!
Are you thinking of Response to Beroās Speech, by Malviser, Battlemage? It doesnāt have that exact example, but it contains precisely this sort of academic mudslinging and semantic nitpicking about magic classification.

Response to Bero's Speech was definitely another one that I loved, as well as The Black Arts on Trial which isn't about semantic nitpicking but does have a fun debate-style arguing about magic.
Reality and Other Falsehoods compares Illusion and Alteration, which may be what I was imagining, but the example I was thinking of was so specific I don't think I made it up entirely. It was an argument that light was illusion rather than Alteration because plants can't grow under the light produced by magic.
At this point I think it could have been something other than Skyrim that I am confusing. But it would have to be a magic system that has a category for "changes perception" and "effects real stuff" and magic light being categorized as the latter.
Iām still looking for this. Check out my game if you want but tbh this is haunting me. I remember it being from Skyrim but Iām prepared to accept it might not be
Iād appreciate reblogs in case someone knows what it is
I had the thought that this could be from a mod, but the most content-adding mod I had at the time was Interesting NPCs, and from browsing their wiki it doesn't appear to be in there (only a few books were added). However, a mod wiki might not be entirely comprehensive, so I can't discount it for sure.
