imagine going to your first rehearsal for a musical and the first words your characters say to each other are “come home with me” “who are you” “the man who’s gonna marry you” and your first duet is a song about a wedding and you get to fall in love doing a show about The Tragic Greek Lovers Ever and then years later you get married to each other and you become the version of the lovers who get a happy ending and get to go home together and you get to do the show again together and now the characters have a different meaning

Being a theatre person is funny because other fandoms are microanalyzing their characters facial expressions and meanwhile we're over here crying over vaguely people-shaped pixels from the shittiest camera known to man

I love that the melody for “Welcome Home” in Bandstand is a variation on Taps. Since Taps is the song that plays to honor fallen soldiers, it adds a layer of musical irony. She’s welcoming home the characters, but there’s still a part of them that died in the war, so she’s singing the military funeral melody. It’s a beautiful way to tell a story with music that goes beyond the spoken text and I love it and it makes me cry.

I think a musical about the differences between you before and after a major world changing event and how those two versions of you are universes apart and also are the same person and how you can never go back to who you were before no matter how much you want to because that person is gone and you have to learn to live with the new you would be a great thing to bring to broadway. Good thing Bandstand already exists

I miss bandstand when are they reviving it

orpheus saying "to the world we dream about" and then turning and raising his cup to the audience when he says "and the one we live in now." fourth wall break of all time. reminding the audience that this story isn't just about hadestown, but is also about our world. stepping back into reality, just for a brief moment, to acknowledge both the joy and pain of living in that world. it is so deeply compassionate and real and it breaks my heart every time.

just got back from seeing the proshot in theaters and can report that when reeve carney delivered these lines it was with such genuine weight that a single tear slid down my face.

I am a certified hater of audience participation but let me tell you, it is almost impossible not to clap during this scene. Even as a full grown adult.

I would still use my turn signals in the Mad Max Wasteland. They'd call me "Signal" because I'd hit my blinker before ramming the enemy hot rods into the side of a desert ravine. I'd use my turn signal every time. They would respect me for this.

hell I’m someone who’s seen a LOT of theatre shows. we have a local theatre that does performances a few times a year and occasionally I’m able to get tickets when there’s a tour (even the closest location is like at least a two hours drive) and like. even if I’m actually fucking able to go to them the amount of times the Only Space with wheelchair access LITERALLY CAN’T see the fucking stage is wild. the last performance I went to I was seated somewhere where I wasn’t able to see anything except peoples feet unless the performers were on the far left of the stage. i was AT the live art and I wasn’t able to see it bc accessibility at theatres is That Dogshit. like even if somehow the geography and financial issues are somehow fine (they’re not) I think it’s Interesting how James completely ignored the disability part Justin mentioned. “art is happening everywhere” but no one cares to let people like me see it even if we’re fucking there and paid money for it.

LOVES me a comic relief character w/ a reputation for The Melodrama—but once you consider their backstory/working conditions you realize they are actually holding shit soooooooooooooooo much closer together than most-o-us could manage in the same situation.
