opera ballet stream, Gustavia 2025
When: sunday 31st may, 8:30pm CET / 7:30pm UK time (UTC+1)
Where: kosmi
Production: Kungliga Operan Stockholm
What's the story? -> It's about the real life ghanian swedish Black man Gustav Badin Couschi who was kidnapped and sold into slavery. He was given as a gift to the swedish royal family who raised him alongside the crownprince future Gustav III (guy who gets assassinated at the opera) and princess Sofia Albertina as part of the family. Like a really fucked up adoption.
I saw this ballet and cried my eyes out. It's a story about family, duty, racialised otherness, falling in love, and freedom.
Music is a potpurri of composers, including: Opeth/Mikael Åkerfeldt, Franz Schubert, Joseph Bologne Chevalier de Saint-Georges, Johannes Brahms, Ludwig van Beethoven, Anders Högstedt
Duration: 1h 58mins
Everyone are welcome :)
