Some things about this post since getting quite a few notes:
1. If you see this post, highly recommend taking it as an opportunity to set a timer for 15 minutes and switch over to ACTIVITY YOU ENJOY. if after those 15 minutes, you want to go back to scrolling, that's okay!
2. Huge shout out to this popping up in my notifs often, bc I do go back to activity.
3. I think there are times where scrolling is fine. Right now, for example, I'm being connected to a machine for two hours to donate plasma and platelets. Yes this is a brag but it is also a time where scrolling is one of the few things I can do. (Though I will probably also read or watch something on phone lol)

anyways, I'm still so angry over that Deadline article about Disney nuking Ncuti Gatwa's era of Doctor Who because of "woke" (not even kidding), because they received "overwhelming" feedback that the show was "too woke" for international audiences. It will never not piss me the fuck off how woke was/is literally aave for being politically aware that's been so co-opted by white establishment conservatives that this bastardised co-opted colonised concept of "woke" is now weaponised against Black people, people of colour and other marginalised people to justify casting us down and out. A literal fuckinf alien was played by a Black gay actor and old white people lost their shit and now a 60 yr old show is basically dead because some white people hated they weren't being directly pandered to. I'm never not gonna be pissed the fuck OFF
Hey, people in the comments who said I was wrong about the show being dead because I could see the writing on the wall months ago....well, now there's the official announcement. I really hope that no one ever forgets that Doctor Who was cancelled because of anti-Blackness, racism, and corporate greed.
The thing that pisses me off about this is that Ncuti wasn't given the same shot as the other actors. Because they had this compressed production timeline and he had other filming commitments so he couldn't be in as many episodes. Doctor who doesn't really work without the doctor. So he and the writing staff were really restricted in what they could do. I don't blame him for leaving, I would too if I was treated like this. He did amazing work with the time he did have, but it just wasn't enough. His filming commitments are not his fault and the people making these decisions should know that the less Doctor in a given episode the higher the likelihood that it's shit.
To be clear, this version of the show is dead. They are now looking for a new studio.
One of the big reasons this sticks in my craw, is that playing The Doctor is one of the roles. It's an excuse for an actor to go ham-wild for three years and play a crazy alien from outer space that has so much depth and range. Who is clever and stupid. Cold hearted and the person who cares the most. The savior of humanity. It's like Hamlet.
You don't sign up for that responsibility lightly. It's a British institution and you take that seriously. Jodie may have gotten a spell of truly awful writing, but at least she got to do all of it. While none of us know any of the behind the scenes gossip, I doubt Ncuti left because he wanted to. He probably felt like he had to.
“Haha remember when murder-hornets were gonna be a thing? What a nothingburger.”
Yes, because the Washington state government activated like a sleeper-cell and ruthlessly, systematically hunted them down and annihilated them.
“Y2K came to nothing amirite?”
Yes because an army of software engineers working around the clock, losing sleep, and busting ass till the last minute prevented it from happening.
“Remember the hole in the ozone layer?”
You mean the one that was fixed through rigorous world wide government action?
One of the root problems of our society is a refusal or inability by media to articulate that all those “it’s gonna be an apocalypse” disasters were not disasters because we collectively did something about them.
The good news is this is actually quite correctable. I maintain my firm belief that we as humans are capable of solving almost all of our problems, when we decide to do so.
And I still think that’s going to happen. I don’t know when or how, but I do know that abandoning hope won’t help bring it about.
And I refuse to let the cynics own a chunk of my heart.

People always say that Germans aren’t funny but we just beat the record for most World Cup goals by winning a match 7-1. Who previously held that record you may ask?
"You can't ship those characters because they have a problematic height gap" well, strictly speaking we can't ship one of them. The other is well within the size and weight limits of most domestic parcel couriers.

the funniest part about 16 being played by billie to me is like. if you wanted to bring back a particular actor for nostalgiabait WHY would you make it soooo hard on yourselves by making them play the doctor. they CLEARLY struggled with this when they brought back david as 14. AND NOW YOU'RE MAKING ROSE TYLER, THE ACTUAL SUBJECT OF THE DOCTOR'S ROMANTIC DESIRE, THE DOCTOR??? literally how are they going to play this off. it has to be INSANELY angsty or it's not going to work.
all of this to say, the obvious choice (AND EASIEST THING TO PLAY OFF PLOT-WISE) would have been to make her play the master. i rest my case
I don't even think she has to play the master. She can just be Rose Tyler. Why, when you get Billie Piper to agree to come back, would you have her play anyone else? This is one of my big problems with the 50th. You got Billie Piper, and you aren't going to let her play Rose? That's just dumb.
It's not like it's a hard story to write. For example:
Rose is traveling with TenToo. They get split up and she ends up back in our world and now she needs to get back. Bonus points if there is some sort of time crunch because TenToo is dying because of XYZ shenanigan. She goes to all her old haunts and sees how everything has changed. She then meets the doctor again through some sort of contrivance (like the tardis felt her energy). They have some cute moments, dodge peril, and find whatever mcguffin is needed to send Rose back to her world / save TenToo. Then Rose makes a choice. Does she stay here with DoctorPrime or does she go home to TenToo? She chooses TenToo and it's a nice commentary on how their story ended the first time. It could be cool way to explore the whole "getting left" thing and how while she loves them both, she is choosing TenToo because that's with whom she's has built her life with, the person she's gotten the mortgage with, you know? It would be a lovely affirmation of love is important but building a life and having history with someone is equally as important.
If you can get David Tennant you can have scenes with TenToo, maybe Rose and the Doctor can communicate with him every now and again. Like little flashes in the fabric of reality. Have David Tennant give his best "man-dying" performance and have him be integral in solving whatever the mystery is of how Rose ended up here and how to get her back.
This doesn't even need to be a Christmas episode. You can stretch this concept for a whole season making Rose either the primary companion or one of two.
My point is there is a lot of juice left in the Rose Tyler story but it seems like no one wants just Rose. What happened to the ordinary person being extraordinary?
the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.
Fanfiction is a gift freely given. There is no monetary incentive. It's made purely for the love of creation and wanting to share that creation with others. The author experienced some art and now wants to tell you about it with this Drabble.

Transphobia is about to be signed into law in the UK. We can fight this.
I am begging the UK trans community and its allies to attend the Mass Lobby at Parliament on June 25th, 11am-4pm, organised by Trans Solidarity Alliance.
Last year we broke the record for an LGBT+ mass lobby of Parliament. Will you help us break it again? Join us on 25th June 2026 to demand be
The new EHRC Code of Practice pushes trans people out of toilets, hospital wards, and community spaces. It normalises gender policing based on appearance and stereotypes. It becomes statutory guidance in the UK by the end of June.
Trans people are now legally their assigned gender at birth and must join gendered spaces accordingly, but if they are perceived as their lived gender, they can also be ejected from those spaces. The guidance says: either break the law, or don’t pass too well.
A mass lobby is where you invite your MP to discuss your concerns with you in-person. Ask your MP to:
Demand full parliamentary scrutiny, debate, and use their free vote on the EHRC Code of Practice.
Support any motions rejecting the EHRC guidance. As of June 4th, Labour MP Nadia Whittome has submitted a prayer motion - Early Day Motion 240.
Write to Bridget Phillipson, the Minister for Women and Equalities about our concerns
Your MP does not have to be an ally, they do not have to respond to your email for you to show up and greencard them (details below the cut.) What matters is that as many people as possible show up.
I cannot stress this enough: Showing up in person matters. It is much more effective than petitions, emails, and letters.
It is a horrible, stressful time, and I am so sorry if you're trans and live in the UK. But I was at last year's mass lobby and the line for greencarding alone stretched around the back gates. It was a record breaking mass lobby and made us impossible to ignore. Let's do even better this time. Details under the cut:
Worried about what to say?
Bring your personal worries about transphobia being signed into law, and trans friends being excluded from public spaces. You are a living person who deserves dignity. Remind your MP of that. You will also get guidance and brochures from Trans Solidarity Alliance that outlines our demands. This is mine from last year.
Money issues?
Trans Solidarity Alliance provides a travel bursary that you can sign up for via the link.
Got a refusal or no response from your MP?
Come anyway! You can request a same-day appointment with your MP through a process called greencarding. They will come and see you if they’re already in Parliament. Even if they don’t, they’re made acutely aware of your cause because you showed up in person. This is my greencard from last year.
Here is the EHRC Code of Practice in full. It's a tough read, but some highlights are:
Organisations can’t provide trans-inclusive, single-sex services, or they risk being sued for discrimination.
e.g. domestic violence support for women including trans women, men’s rugby group including trans men (12.68).
Trans people will have nowhere safe to pee.
If you’re a trans man, businesses can't allow you to pee in the men's, and you can also be ejected from women’s bathrooms if you’re perceived as a man. Vice versa for trans women. EHRC suggests a ‘third space’ bathroom, which is discriminatory and unworkable for most businesses. (13.130-133)
Sports organisations must exclude trans people from single-sex competitions (13.73).
A women’s only sports competition must exclude trans women because of their biological advantage or face potential lawsuits (13.74), but a trans man who has undergone testosterone treatment can also be excluded based on fairness rules (13.81).
Trans women are stripped of the legal definition of ‘lesbian’, and therefore no longer have legal protections if they’re discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation. (2.50, 2.92).
Here is the Good Law Project's better explanation of the EHRC Code.
I have also made a PDF printout of QR codes for the government petition, email your MP tool, and mass lobby link to pass around your communities. DM me and I'll send it to you.
It's also important for us cis allies to show up and support our trans community members, so think about joining this if you're able no matter your gender identity.
I'm not going to be able to go, but I do have some experience with lobbying my various MPs over the years, so here's some quick advice off the top of my head:
If you're resident in the UK but not a citizen you still have the right to go to Parliament and be seen by your MP.
If you don't know who your MP is you can look it up by putting your postcode into the Find My MP page on Parliament's website (pro tip if you are a uni student, check your MP for both your family home and your uni, one may be a better option for lobbying than the other, you may even be able to Green Card both of them, but I don't know if that's possible, ask on the desk when you ask for the card).
And everyone needs to remember that while officially you're not required to show photo ID to get into Parliament the official guidance from the House of Commons is "you don't need photo ID to get in but we suggest you bring it anyway" (which is just unhelpful)
You will also be required to pass through airport style security which obviously may be a stressful experience for some of the people taking part in the mass lobby. That can take anywhere up to half an hour, the staff are usually pretty nice, but the entry into the security check is a sloped metal ramp with zero shade and nowhere to lean or sit so plan accordingly.
If your MP is not in the building to come and meet you they are required to respond to your Green Card as soon as possible via the contact details you put on your Green Card. While meeting them in person is the ideal you will get a response so it will be worth it even if your MP is unavailable.
Have a safe, productive lobby! Proud of all of you who can go and support the cause.
