functionally suicidal character saying “I would die for you” to their significant other and its like. I get the sentiment, honey, but if a hot dog vendor told me he’d sell hot dogs for me, I wouldn’t feel very moved now would I
basically the best thing any character can do is decide they don't want to be afraid anymore - in fact they never want to be afraid of anything ever again - and take action so drastic they fail to realise that this too is a decision motivated by fear. or to account for the Consequences of that.
[with obvious perverted intent] hey. don't you want to release the safety catches on that character. don't you want to flip off all the switches holding them back and let the control rods go.

Prompt idea: Character who had once promised their lover that nothing bad would happen to them
Just for something bad to happen later on that was out of their control but they feel such shame and guilt when they see their partner hurt and bedridden
When the promise “I won’t let anything bad happen to you” is broken
Upon finding them: “[Name], baby, no… Oh my god, fuck…”
“What happened?”
“I wasn’t there… No… I wasn’t…”
“I failed…”
“I’m never going to let this happen again.”
“This is my fault.”
“I couldn’t protect you.”
“How could this have happened?”
“I’m so, so sorry.”
“They won’t get away with this.”
“Please wake up... I can't lose you, not like this.”
“I don't even know how to begin asking for your forgiveness...”
like the betrayal’s always going to be worse if they cared about you and it didn’t matter. someone discards you because they didn’t give a shit, then you can be angry about that, you can feel vindicated in that, you can get over it. but if they can look you in the eyes and say “I love you. I would make the same choice again.” You will never sleep peacefully again, is all.
“I thought they cared about me, but they were lying this whole time.” <- tired. boring. removes all the nuance of this relationship to make it easier to move on from.
“I thought they cared about me, and I was right, and every minute they were there for me, every time they said they were proud, every laugh we shared leaning against each other bruised and breathless, all of it was real. and they still left me behind. They could put their love aside. I couldn’t.” <- insane. will never leave you alone. reminds you that even the worst people are still people and can still care about even the ones they hurt the most and that undoes neither the harm nor the love.
okay. something about the way i worded this is making people think this is a vent thing about real relationships. and it’s fine if that’s where it took you. but i feel like i need to be transparent here: this be blorboposting. karlach cliffgate and her terrible awful no good very bad betrayal.
the best thing a man can be is gay and suicidal and miserable and utterly unlikable and unpleasant to be around and prone to addiction and abused and traumatized and not breaking the cycle and
Four in the morning and my pain has finally dropped from severe back down to moderate. I feel tired in a way that has very little to do with needing sleep.
Anyway. Here are some thoughts on it, plus previous experiences. Going to use third person for them.
Being alone and in severe pain is kinda miserable. They don't have the energy or focus required to think about something else or do anything but endure and wait.
This will probably put them in a bad mood even if they're used to pain. It's just annoying.
Having sympathetic people around makes it much better. Sharing stories about painful experiences can actually really help because they don't feel like they're trying to do the impossible task of ignoring the pain but they're also doing something nice/fun in interacting positively with people.
Sometimes it's bad enough or they're tired enough that all they want is someone to sit next to them and go "I know, I know, easy now. There we go. Just breath. It will pass."
If no one else is available they will do this for themselves.
When pain spikes they might bite down on whatever is available for a bit, including their own arm. They might also throw up.
There's a decree of harshness with themselves that comes from being used to it. They'd be upset if anyone else told them to pull themselves together but they'll say it aloud to themselves when they have to do something and have the urge to just curl up in a little ball instead.
If they're not too tired, they'll frequently shift position to try and get more comfortable even though they know it won't work. It's like the subdued, casual version of writhing in pain. The same animal urge to get away, but without the intensity.
They'll tremble most strongly in the moments when the pain isn't as bad, because when it is they'll probably be tensed up.
If they're really used to it, they'll be less tense.
They might expect their heart rate to have sped up and be surprised when it hasn't even though they're breathing raggedly.
They may feel the constant low urge to cry or scream but have enough just control of themselves not to and think it would feel childish- again, even if they wouldn't judge others for expressing pain that way.
They'll probably remind themselves they've had worse (assuming this is the case, though some might say so even if it isn't, or not realise it was the worst they've had until later, because all severe pain feels like "the worst" when they're in the middle of it).
After a while they'll probably get impatient just waiting for the pain to pass and try to do something. This will often make it worse. Depending on how stubborn they are, they may push through anyway, do it but slowly and with breaks, or decide against it after all.
As they get more tired, their pain tolerance will go down. Since pain interferes with sleep, this can lead to a continuous problem.
They might switch between being angry and being gentle/comforting to themselves from moment to moment.
They might also have moments of bravado or a sort of strange delight where they're just grinning though it instead of grimacing. This tends to happen much more often when other people are around. There can be a fierce sort of pride in knowing they're taking it well.
Once it abates, even if it's far from over, they'll probably be very tired and just want to rest for a bit. Or they might feel energised by the relief, especially if it hasn't been for that long.
If they're in pain permanently, then being pain-free is genuinely blissful.

Hello! I'd be curious to hear whatcha got for dizziness build up to fainting whumpee prompt/scenario (if you have anything) <3
oh i've GOT you!!
whumpee who has never passed out before, so they don't recognize the signs and keep staggering around thinking the black vision and ringing ears will pass until they faint
whumpee blaming standing up too fast for their fainting spell when really they're bleeding internally and don't know it until they throw up blood
i posted earlier about whumpee who catches themself on the desk of their boss while being scolded but HEAR ME OUT, whumpee who is being awarded or praised for their bravery and/or performance in front of the team, only to miss all of the praise because they're too busy focusing on steadying themelf and not throwing up before they collapse
whumpee who is leading the crew and is the only one who knows where they're going staggering forward, then to the side, then to the other side. team is like where the hell are we going until whumpee collapses and they realize they're feeling so dizzy they don't even know which way is up
whumpee lying down and thinking that's going to save them from fainting, but the dizziness persists until they lose consciousness in caretaker's arms or lap
i hope one of these is something!!
An injured character who's managed to grit their teeth and bear it through the course of a painful wound tending with scarcely a sound but as soon as the ordeal is actually over they dissolve into quiet weeping of relief and released tension and lingering pain.
Caretaker watching whumpee sleep after rescuing and patching them up, tears steaming down their face because oh my god, oh my god, they’re back, they’re alive, they’re here.
They don’t want to close their eyes, don’t want to let whumpee out of their sight for even a second. When it’s finally impossible to stay awake, Caretaker crawls into bed next to Whumpee, gently taking their hand.
They had to be sure they would still be there when they woke up.
"Were you hurt?"
"I'm fine."
"I'll rephrase. Where are you hurt?"
Something about how inherently embarrassing it is for a character to find out they've been delirious for an amount of time. Like, I just love how universal this trope is -- in almost every piece of media I've Consumed where a character is told outright or it's implied to them that they've been Very out of it and slipping in and out of consciousness for a while, the reaction is always oh god really?? The discomfort of knowing just How vulnerable they were.

blorbo sickfic that turns into a possession fic halfway through
what does this meannnn
well you see,
"compromised" is such a magical word
GRABS YOU. GET BACK HERE.
okay. okay wait i can be normal about this one. I Can Be Normal. here are the prompts that came to mind.
Living weapon who failed a vital task in the middle of a mission, lifting a shaky, bloody hand to their earpiece and hearing the voice of their handler filter in. "I--I am compromised."
Alternatively: a living weapon who, somehow, is convinced to leave a mission with the hero's team, and their handler shrieks through static and spittle. "Compromised! Damn it all!"
Leader suddenly turns on their team while on the field, blank eyes and guided hand. Their friends scramble to wake them up from an unknown brainwashing spell, but end up scattering, running away, the new inexperienced second-in-command shouting, "Leader's been compromised, we need to retreat!"
Ooh... zombie apocalypses. Right when everything seems calm. "Hey, guys," Whumpee says, too casual to be safe. Heads swivel, eyes find the bite mark, hearts pound. "Sorry. I... think I've been compromised."
Robot whumpees with glitches and viruses infiltrating their system. "I am compromised, but f-functional. D-do not worry?" Especially with an unprepared teammate when they've all been scattered, doubly so if said teammate doesn't like Whumpee.
Missions where the team splits up, it goes wrong, and someone has to inform the rest of the group that one of the members is compromised--does that mean drugged? Restrained? Convinced to give up the mission? Hell if the team knows. Whumpee's just compromised.
feather....... this trope is unbelievable............ compromised my beloved. i have SO MANY THOUGHTS
