A huge 'thank you' to my dear friend @missnmikaelson for helping me out by writing the beginning. Apparently, I couldn't figure out how to start and because I had already written all of the rest, I was struggling for days in a row. The first three paragraphs belong to her, therefore this is to be considered a collab. Hope you all enjoy this as much as we both did!

Day in the life of Maekar Targaryen
reading this fic where the new mando schools don't teach classical mando art anymore, and. idk. it's kinda fucked up and it kinda got me thinking. maybe it's because i'm an american who leans pacifist and strongly supports gun regulations, but the whole fanon where the new mandos can't possibly be real mandos simply because they're pacifists bothers me. because i think that's part of why satine exists in the first place--to draw attention to the fact that in a lot of the canon, Mando and Pacifist are contradictions. she exists to deconstruct some realistic implications of a "warrior culture," such as, well. sometimes people get tired of fighting.
the fact that mando fans make satine out to be an enemy of her culture--write her as someone leading what is essentially a cultural genocide--is very... meta, to me. satine represents an opportunity for nuance in a fictional culture that is primarily known for the cool armor and the badass fight scenes, but the fans like the armor and the fighting. and satine does not. so satine as a character/what she represents in-universe has become an enemy of what makes mandos interesting to the fans. and she is an enemy they can punish by stripping her culture from her, by taking away her history and her art and her context and making her out as a wannabe republic senator with fascist leanings.
satine exists to ask the question: is violence a necessary component of this culture? does being a mandalorian mean being a killer? and the fans by and large answered, yes.
THIS MOMENT WAS ONE OF THE BEST IN THE EPISODE. Because not allowing feelings to cloud a Jediās judgement is one of the key things that George Lucas has always said the Jedi are about, this isnāt a moment of Obi-Wan being in the wrong, this is him being right, heās recognizing his own biases here, that he canāt just go off half-cocked based on an emotional reaction, no matter how sympathetic or understandable that reaction is, because people will die. This connects with Obi-Wanās entire past with Maul, that Maul killed Qui-Gon and he killed Satine, all because he set a trap for Obi-Wan, who didnāt go to Mandalore with as clear a focus as he could have and she died because of him, because Maul wanted to hurt Obi-Wan.Ā And he fears another trap being set by Maulāand heās right, it is a trap. It also connects with a scene from earlier in this arc, where Obi-Wan is shown to know that Anakin was talking to Padme, and Dave Filoni (writer of this episode,Ā āOld Friends Not Forgottenā) says about the parallels between Obi-Wan/Satine and Anakin/Padme: āObi-Wanās not dumb. Ā He knows Anakinās in love with this woman. Ā I donāt think he ever understands that they got married. I donāt think he thinks Anakin took it that far. Ā I mean, even Obi-Wan was in love with someone. Ā Thatās not abnormal. Itās very normal. Ā What you choose to do and how you choose to have a relationship, what you sacrifice, then that becomes a bigger deal when heās made an oath to the Jedi Order to be selfless, to put everyone else ahead of himself. And he never thinks that two of them would do something so drastic. But it dawns on him over time that they have.ā āDave Filoni The contrast between them, the reason Obi-Wan/Satine is a foil for Anakin/Padme is that question of the oath for selflessness they each made vs the personal feelings they have.Ā The feelings themselves are fine, thatās why Obi-Wan specifically says to Anakin (in the Rush Clovis arc) that itās not like Jedi arenāt allowed to have these feelings, theyāre normal. But itās about what you do with them and which path you choose to take.Ā Obi-Wan and Satine both chose their oaths and sworn duties (and they both found fulfilment in those lives!), that both are valid choices and paths for a person to take!Ā But trying to hoard both of them splits you in two, itās like being married to your Order andĀ married to your spouse, that youāve vowed to put them both first in your life, and eventually thatās going to snap you in two because you canāt truly be committed to either. Which is precisely what Anakin does in Revenge of the SithĀ where he refuses to choose between these two life commitments, these two separate marriages he basically has.Ā That he cannot be the selfless person heās vowed to be, when he treats his relationship with Padme so selfishly. And itās also a perfect illustration of why Anakin doesnāt tell Obi-Wan about his marriage, even though he has to know that Obi-Wan is at least aware of somethingĀ between themābecause Anakin knows the answer heās going to get, heās always known the answer.Ā Because Obi-Wan didĀ choose, because Obi-Wan did choose the selfless path and actually gave up something he may have wanted, but would have constantly torn him away from the path he also wanted to be on.Ā He says,Ā āHad you said the word, I would have left the Jedi Order.ā and Anakin likely overheard that, which means he knows Obi-Wan loved her enough for that, but still recognized there was a choice that had to be made. Anakin sees that Obi-Wan chose, that he loved Satine, that he still loves her even now, that itās never been that Anakin was told love was wrong, but that he couldnāt consume himself with both and he knew heād have to choose and he didnāt want to.Ā Not until his fears ate him and his selfishness for Padmeās presence in his life, his inability to live without her, uncaring of what she would have wanted him to do in her name or how this would make her feel about him, to see her husband doing these horrifying things, forced him to choose and even thenĀ I would argue that his turning on the Jedi isnāt that he truly didnāt want to be one, but that he couldnāt justify what heād done unless he said the Jedi were evil.Ā Because, if the Jedi werenāt evil, then Anakin murdering their children was evil, and Anakin couldnātĀ be evil, it had to be something else. This scene is an illustration of how Obi-Wan Kenobi is a true Jedi (something Dave Filoni has said about the character before in the commentary forĀ āThe Lawlessā) in that he loved Satine but he was able to let her go.Ā She stillĀ means something to him, he stillĀ loves her, but heās able to step back and be clear-headed about it, is able to find purpose and meaning in his life without herāand Anakin has never wanted to do that. Watching Obi-Wan be balanced and selfless about Satine drives a wedge of fear into Anakinās heart, he doubles down on swearing to never go to Obi-Wan about this, because he knows the advice heāll get and itās not going to be,Ā āHereās the magic answer to being able to stop all death.āĀ Itās going to be,Ā āYou have to make a choice, otherwise youāre going to tear yourself and your relationships apart.āĀ Which he really, really does not want to hear.

Your blog is interesting and informative. Learning the behind the scenes stuff is interesting but I have found that I cannot accept some of the things Lucas says. Especially the discourse around attachment. Having watched the movies and read their novelizations I just do not find Lucasās idea behind what he was trying to convey to be in his story.
This really hit home for me when rewatching The Clone Wars. In the episode Voyage of Temptation (season 2 episode 13) Obi-Wan and Anakin have this discussion:
Obi-Wan My duty as a Jedi demanded I be elsewhere.
Anakin Demanded? But itās obvious you had feelings for her. Surely that would affect your decision.
Obi-Wan Oh, it did. I live by the Jedi Code.
Anakin Of course. As Master Yoda says, āA Jedi must not form attachments.ā
Obi-Wan Yes. But he usually leaves out the undercurrent of remorse.
I cannot square the idea that a Jedi would feel an undercurrent of remorse about not having a supposedly negative thing in their life. The only thing I can conclude is that it does not mean a negative and just means having a partner. Having love.
I'm really glad you like my blog, Anon! :)
What I take from your message is that you're a bit confused about attachment and non-attachment and how not forming attachments is guiding the life of a Jedi Knight.
You seem to equate "attachment" with "love" and "having a partner." However, this isn't quite right: attachment is the feeling that you like or love something or someone, paired with the feeling that you would be unhappy without them. Attachment is not the same as liking or loving, because attachment is characterized by the feeling that you have to have the things or people you like or love in your life to keep yourself happy. Once you feel this, you start to want things to not to change, to stay as they are, you want to permanently have things. But everything changes, things come and things go, you can't stop that. Attachment is an unrealistic and unreasonable desire that will lead to the fear of loss, and out of that comes anger, and from that comes hate. And being filled by fear, anger and hate is suffering.
The things we're attached to are most likely very positive, very good and very enjoyable, since we love and like them. Having a romantic partner and a romantic, loving relationship with that partner is not a problem at all, because that's not an attachment. Rather, attachment is the harmful and destructive way of relating to having a romantic partner and a romantic, loving relationship with that partner.
Let's go through this dialogue in Voyage of Temptation!
ANAKIN: You didn't stay to help her? OBI-WAN: That would have been problematic. My duty as a Jedi demanded I be elsewhere. ANAKIN: Demanded? But it's obvious you had feelings for her. Surely that would affect your decision. OBI-WAN: Oh, it did. I live by the Jedi code. ANAKIN: Of course. As master Yoda says, "a Jedi must not form attachments." OBI-WAN: Yes. But he usually leaves out the undercurrent of remorse.
It would be important to be able to distinguish between not forming attachments and the life of the Jedi Knight made possible by not forming attachments, since the two are related, but very different.
ANAKIN: You didn't stay to help her? OBI-WAN: That would have been problematic. My duty as a Jedi demanded I be elsewhere.
Jedi Knights aren't where they would like to be, but where they are needed, and for a good Jedi Knight, who lives on compassion, the two are the same. They dedicate themselves to serve the entire known universe, to guard peace and justice, to settle disputes and make sure that everyone is protected. Obi-Wan couldn't stay with Satine, because as he tells Anakin, his Jedi duty demanded him to be elsewhere. He isn't saying, his duty as a Jedi was to "be nowhere near her," because a Jedi is not allowed to have partners and love.
The reason why Jedi Knights aren't entering marriages and romantic relationships is not that these would be attachments. They won't do it because it's simply impractical. The duty of the parent and spouse, who has to protect and support their family and the duty of the Jedi, who has to guard peace and justice in the entire universe cannot be fulfilled at the same time.
ANAKIN: Demanded? But it's obvious you had feelings for her. Surely that would affect your decision. OBI-WAN: Oh, it did. I live by the Jedi code. ANAKIN: Of course. As master Yoda says, "a Jedi must not form attachments."
Attachment is a very conditional way of relating to others. It says, "You make me very happy, I enjoy you so much, so I love you and I cherish you." It says, "You make me very unhappy, I despise you so much, I I hate you and I want to harm you." And it says, "You do not make me feel happy nor unhappy, I have no concern for you." And these are walking hand in hand: when PadmƩ made Anakin feel very happy, he wanted her to be safe, he was willing to pledge loyalty to Darth Sidious to keep her alive and in his life, but on Mustafar, when she made him feel unhappy, he wanted her to be miserable and he choked her. A Jedi Knight shall not form attachments, rather, they must have unconditional love, which is compassion. True love says, "I want you to be happy and free from suffering."
It's an aspiration coming from the simple realization that we're the same human beings in wanting to be happy and free from suffering. This can extend to all living things: the people who make us feel happy, the people who make us feel unhappy and the rest. Obi-Wan had to adhere to the Jedi code, "a Jedi must not form attachments." Compassion is central to a Jedi Knight's life. So, Obi-Wan had to make a decision that is based on compassion, the concern for the well-being of everyone, not just the concern for the woman he has romantic feelings for, who he likes and cherishes. Satine had a hard task ahead of her, but the war was over and she was safe. Others, however, were in need of the protection and guidance of the Jedi.
OBI-WAN: Yes. But he usually leaves out the undercurrent of remorse.
What Obi-Wan feels an undercurrent of remorse about not having is a very positive thing: it's the relationship that he had with Satine, what he sacrificed for the life of a Jedi Knight. It was a hard choice, he loved Satine greatly. He doesn't feel bad about serving others as a Jedi Knight, but he does feel bad about leaving Satine.
But Satine didn't ask him to leave the Order, and by the end of the arc, they were both able to find peace, knowing that they made the right decision. I've already posted this quote from the great Vietnamese Zen Buddhist monk and teacher, Thich Nhat Hanh, but it's still explains this perfectly: "As a monastic you lead a life of monastic celibacy and community, and if the one you love realizes that, she will not suffer and you will not suffer, because love is much more than having a sexual relationship. Because of great love you can sacrifice that aspect of love, and your love becomes much greater. That nourishes you, that nourishes the other person, and finally your love will have no limit. That is the Buddhaās love."
Obviously, the disappearance of a loved one from our lives will never be easy, will bring sadness, and their absence will always be felt. But the severe pain, sorrow, regret over this, the anguish that we are not with them, the intense yearning to be with them, to get them back is stemming from our desire to hold on to what we find pleasant, good and joyous, from the inability to accept that we can never truly have, own, possess anything. If we cease the unrealistic and unreasonable yearning, weāre able to allow change, to allow death to enter into our lives and seeing it as a natural part of it. And we can be at peace.
hear me out...
this is who i imagine when i think about young obi-wan and satine
Duchess Satine forbade the people of Mandalore from speaking Mandoāa, their native language, and forced them to speak only Galactic Basic, the language of the Republic. Hereās all of the evidence to prove it!
First off, we have ⦠Oh, wait. Satineās the only named character in The Clone Wars who speaks Mandoāa, and she even uses the warrior dialect of the Concordians.
And hmm ⦠thereās Mandoāa on the police speeders.
(Also note that the police carry and use blasters and flame throwers, so she hasnāt outlawed weapons either. Mandalorians are also not forbidden from carrying weapons within the city, which is why the Death Watch terrorist pictured above was carrying a blaster. The only people forbidden from carrying weapons are outsiders ... and that was only a rule solidified in The Clone Wars Season 3.)
But surely the children are only taught Basic ā¦
Nope! The children of Mandalore are taught both Basic and Mandoāa, but you can see that Mandoāa is what Korkie is using on his tablet.
Itās clear the children are bilingual. They use Mandoāa for their studies, but Ahsokaās presentation is in Basic. It's likely that they are using Basic to converse with her but speak Mando'a amongst themselves.
In fact, the only place in Sundari where we see Basic is on the domeās exits (this says āHangar 1ā), with the implication that they are accommodating travelers.
Huh. Itās almost like violence isnāt the only tradition that makes up Mandalorian culture, and Satine loves her Mandalorian heritage even as she believes (as the majority of Mandalorians did who confirmed her right to rule) that the time of peace had come.
Can you play an instrument? (Any skill level)
Yes (which one? š)
No
Nuance (up to interpretation)
Iām just curious how many people at some point in their lives have played/learned to play an instrument of any kind.
I included a nuance button bc I know there might be some folks who might be like āwell I played the recorder in grade school but idk if that countsā ā count it if you want or hit nuance if youāre unsure! š
To be clear, if you studied an instrument to any level of proficiency, even if youāre out of practice now, please select yes!
Reblog with your instrument, if you wish šš¼ Or just for more accurate results
Boosting again! Iāve been enjoying reading everyoneās responses so far, it brings me joy to see music has reached so many lives!! šš«¶š¼

James Webb Space Telescope (JWST)
I saw this post on Facebook today, and was gonna make a joke about how he's so good in the lab because, when it comes to experiment samples, he knows you gotta keep 'em separated.
But I happened to search the lyric online really quick, and found this:
AMAZING. It's actually where the line came from! Bravo, sir.
Dexter Holland, the lead singer of the punk-rock band The Offspring, has a lot of different interests. One of them is biology.
So i jumped out of bed to go tell my wife this (bc she woke up, she has a tendency to wake up around 2 am bc we're different brands of weirdo) & she said, "Yeah, that doesn't surprise me. He also flies their tour plane a lot of the time bc he just really likes flying." Apparently, he holds CFI, CFII, & ATP certifications, so he's not just a pilot. He's rated as an instructor. And he owns a hot sauce brand, bc why not?
