The extension of Arda's astronomy slowly conforming to "reality" (the earth rounding, the sun and moon becoming less people and more objects) is that at some point Eärendil must be exiled again, 24 million miles from home. This would be a good ending for the half sketched Horrible Fourth Age Story that Tolkien scrapped, tbh. Oh, to be the Evening Star becoming the planet Venus in an age of terrible half-formed astronomies.

I'll say it, I think Caranthir should have died at the hands of Ulfang and his sons at the Nirnaeth.

The same way that Celegorm and Curufin dying at Dior's hands closes the circle on their earlier actions against Lúthien, so too would Caranthir being murdered by Men loop through his subplot seeking the service of (and offending) Haleth. It would also give actual credence to his supposed ill temper! Being such a mid liege lord you get killed for it is compelling, that kind of obvious personal grudge gives the Easterlings' betrayal a little more oomph. Plus, I think the Secondborn deserve more narrative wins. They should get a Son of Feanor on a pike too.

#as always i have to agree with warrioreowyn's points #the only way it works is if ulfang's betrayal is more of a personal beef than about morgoth #and i do get that sort of anti-liege lord action undermines the themes #betrayed-by-vassal is automatic sympathy points in a pre modern text #or a text trying to evoke that energy #and the deaths of all the sons of feanor have to retain a sense of comeuppance #tragic but not unwarranted or effectuated by the servants of evil

went to a new optometrist today wearing my squid facts ‘save our freaks’ shirt from @sarahmackattack that has a strawberry squid on it. and i wasn’t even thinking about it but the optometrist walked in and he was like ‘oh what does your shirt say’ so i showed him and he was like ‘oh that’s neat!’ and then i thought he might like to know about strawberry squid eyes since they have weird eyes and he is an optometrist and all. so i was like ‘yeah it’s actually a real kind of squid called a strawberry squid, their eyes are really cool because they have one big yellow-green one and one small blue one’ and he kind of gasped and went ‘oh my god that’s so interesting i wonder why they have that. do you know what their retina composition is like?’ and i watched as he minimized my chart on the computer and started looking up images of strawberry squid and then he googled ‘strawberry squid retina composition’ and he was like ‘sorry we’ll get to your eye exam in a moment i just really want to find out’ LMAO 10/10 optometrist experience will be returning
