pov: grace tries to explore outside the biodome, only to find himself in a first person horror game in a foggy pitch dark hellscape with many alien rock spiders, scuttling in and out of the darkness. at least they're all friendly!
k but imagine Rocky wanting to learn about how humans became the apex predators of their planet so he has Grace “hunt” him in the biodome as an experiment and during it he thinks Grace isn’t trying or taking it seriously which is bad bad bad because this is for research purposes
only for Rocky to get more and more tired as the experiment goes on just to realize that Grace isn’t which makes him panic so he puts as much distance as he can between them and finds a (hopefully) safe spot to sleep and when he wakes up the human is crouching over him like “got youuu” and Rocky has never shrieked so damn loud before in his life
Reblog if you think the person you reblogged this from deserves to be happy.
It's like when you go to Antarctica and have to get your appendix removed
Grace remembered the whole "being forced to go on a suicide mission" thing before Rocky moved out (I think even movie!Rocky still had to go back to the Hail Mary at least once to get his stuff, and in the book this memory happened much earlier), so may I offer: Grace breaking down and writing "COWARD" in big bold letters over everything else on his "Who am I?" whiteboard. This is how he sees himself in the moment, nothing else seems to matter. It's fine, Rocky can't see it — and even if he could, he can't read. It's just a little self-depricating reminder for himself. "Hey, that's who you really are". "Hey, you can't pretend anymore". "Hey, you are not a hero, even if your whole planet and your alien friend see you as one".
Except, before parting ways, he teaches Rocky the basics of the written English (in the book Rocky asks him to and I assume movie!Rocky would want that also), and Rocky runs around the ship pointing his camera thingy everywhere trying to find and read all the words, like an excited child who is learning how to read.
And he sees the board.
And it's funny, at first. He bullies Grace for the messy handwriting. He complains about the lines that are not 100% straight. And then—
"Grace, what C-O-W-A-R-D means, question?"
...And Grace knows that he can't lie.

Organised crime? Nah girl I'm into disorganised crime. If a goon doesn't have ADHD they aren't getting hired
Cops can't stop us if they don't know what we're doing, and they can't find out if we have no idea either
Nah I'm safe it wouldn't happen twice
Minions stop this post from reaching 1k
On it, boss! Gettin' this post to 10k, just like you said!
i keep laughing at the way that eridian culture in the movie and eridian culture in the book are not contradictory at all, if you accept that movie rocky is just a total FREAK
grace: boy i sure can't wait to meet other eridians haha! rocky, putting on a shirt for the first time in four years: rocky has something to tell grace but does grace promise not to be mad, question?
I can't leave this in the tags lmaooo
So excited for the flood of content on my dash for Iron Lung once it gets released on Youtube, cause the fandom is going to be given the ability to pause and read shit and hyper-analyze everything
well that just doesn't seem correct but what do i know i guess
sorry but once you notice how often ppl use a southern accent as shorthand for being unintelligent you can never unsee it. classism is baked so deeply and why are you acting like anyone who talks the way my grandfather talks is stupid.
Don't forget the inverse: smart character is smart despite their very clear southern accent, implying that it's a rare instance, and they're one of the special southerners that's not 100% "backwards"

"Why do you buy books when the library is right there?"
Because publishing houses will not continue printing paper books if libraries are their only customers.
Also, I like being able to read at my leisure and generally have books at hand.
#public libraries are good because they let people access books they might never otherwise read#private book ownership is good because it's Yours#physical books are good because they last a long time and again it's Yours#ebooks are good because you can fit a whole library into the physical space of a single book and they're cheaper to produce#audiobooks are good because they're accessible to people with eyesight or visual reading issues and leave your hands free#in conclusion: all books are good and people should enjoy them however and whenever they can#(lest it be misunderstood I agree with you completely OP I just also really like books in general and it got away from me)
YES. all books. every kind
