His soul purpose wasn’t to get buck and eddie together, that’s not happening, but it was to have Buck come out as bisexual. Also using a hashtag of a scene where Buck literally says he doesn’t have feelings for him is kind of hilarious
Sorry, I need to get out my red pen for a moment.
It's spelled SOLE, not 'soul'.
And it's rather interesting that Tommy had to stick around for two seasons to live out his purpose to prove Buck's bisexuality. You'd think that he'd have been gone by the end of season 7 and yet, he got Bobby's seal of approval.
That drives you nuts, doesn't it?
Bobby's gave his seal of approval to a plot device.
Buck wanted to move in with the plot device.
Buck was thinking about marriage with the plot device.
He pined over the plot device for half of a season.
He fucked and was fucked by the plot device on bare mattress on the freaking floor.
He knew the plot device would still come to help when the 118 got stuck in the lab.
The plot device risked his life and his career and showed off some really cool helicopter tricks.
The plot device watched "the love of his life" collapse in grief for his dead father figure on the monitors.
The plot device was emotional at the sight of Buck collapsing.
The plot device was more present in the Bobby flashback then Hen and Chim were.
The plot device saved Bobby's life when Bobby was suicidal.
The plot device was a pallbearer at Bobby's funeral.
The plot device walked with the present members of the 118 in the procession.
Wow. What a plot device.
on “the blond,” “the older man,” and other crimes against third-person limited
You know that thing where a story is written in tight third person limited — we’re meant to be inside someone’s head, seeing the world through their thoughts — and then suddenly the narration says “the blond frowned” or “the shorter woman sighed” about a person the POV character knows really well?
That’s called antonomasia — using a descriptive label instead of a name. And it’s fine when we’re talking about strangers: “the cashier handed her the receipt,” “the tall guy blocked the door.” The POV character doesn’t know their names, and we just need a quick way to tell people apart.
But the moment it’s used for someone the POV character already knows, it breaks immersion. Because that’s not how our minds work. We don’t think “the older man smiled at me.” We think “Mark smiled.” Or maybe “my boss” if that relationship matters in the moment.
Third person limited means the narration sits inside someone’s perception. Their inner monologue is the story’s voice. So when you switch from “Mark smiled” to “the blond smiled,” you’ve pulled the camera away from their mind and turned it into an outside shot.
If you want to create distance or irritation, you can do it on purpose —
“The idiot from accounting emailed again.”
That’s character voice. That’s judgment. That works.
But otherwise?
As soon as your POV character knows someone’s name, use it. While we do tend to worry about repetitions, names rarely register as such to the readers.
If you need variety for rhythm, use relational or emotional identifiers that make sense in their head: her friend, his partner, their teacher, the person they loved.
Because inside someone’s thoughts, there are no “blonds” or “brunettes.”
There are only people they know.
i love the level of friendship that is "would you like early access to the porn that i'm writing"
i think if I was really really upset by bobby dying i'd be pissed that the show is going in such a wild direction after minear saying his death was for the sake of realism or whatever, but since I wasn't that sad I am instead clapping my hands in glee. send those public servants to space, fuck yeah.

this is the funniest thing I've ever read in my life
"if we can't remove people from a space based on sex or gender, how do we make sure people in the group stay safe from assholes?" if you can have an enforceable "no men" rule in a queer space you could probably have an enforceable "no assholes" rule instead. it's pretty easy actually. it's actually easier to tell if someone is an asshole based on their actions than their gender, in my experience.
I am new to HEMA (historical European martial arts aka sword fighting) and my first question (to the other trans person there) was how does the club and HEMA in general deal with gender and assholes?
Re gender and competitions: almost all weapons are open, meaning, no distinction by gender. Some more popular ones, like German long sword, have two categories: open and WUG (women and underrepresented genders) but if you fall into the latter, you can also compete in the former.
I was like, cool, cool. What about like, in general? Every single person in the room went oh yeah we just shun transphobes, racists, and homophones. Don’t worry. We got swords and we got you.
So. Yeah. It is indeed possible to have and enforce a “no assholes” rule.
awesome??? awesome?? everyone else go home. and come back with swords.
Ditto from the roller derby world. People often wonder, isn't it dangerous playing a contact sport with trans women? And I say, well, no, because if you adopt a rule of banning people who play dangerously, you keep everyone much safer than you do if you exclude people based on trans status and think that's fixed it.
I actually went to a 3 day open to all derby tournament a few months ago (as an art vendor, not a player), and the sheer queer joy in the room was awesome. It really is wonderful to see people of all genders & body types playing a high contact sport together and having a great time doing it. It proves emphatically that everything terfs, radfems, transphobes & gender essentialists want you to believe about the "trans sports debate" is dead fucking wrong. The danger doesn't come from welcoming one another. The danger is in not assessing people on their actual behaviour in a space.
ok actually wait Mr Evan "I don't even like flying domestically" Buckley was fully prepared to do flying lessons with Tommy just to spend time with him and get his attention
TIM I SWEAR TO GOD YOU BETTER SEE THIS AND STEAL IT!
Fandom needs to go back to it’s roots of shipping without any expectation of canon agreement, shipping characters that have never even met, shipping characters from entirely different properties that came out decades apart, shipping just for fun, and generally speaking mostly not bothering the creators about it. Put fandom back in the shadows, being profitable has only made everything worse as grifters saw easy marks and forcing creators to play pattycake with fandom has led to so much open resentment.

headcanons are all well and good, and are a great way for fandom to interact with a piece of media, but the minute you start praising or lauding something for representation that is purely fanon you have sincerely lost the plot

You can be depressed and not feel sad or blue. Depression can also be a haze of sleepiness, distractedness/obsessiveness cycles, and a twinge of irritability that can be hard to recognize because you might already be a “fiery” person. It can feel like a lazy Sunday that keeps imposing itself for weeks or months.
Can we just… I’ll leave this here.
and also a numbness. Not necessarily sad but no emotions whatsoever - just flat. Nothing is exciting, I can’t be bothered to be angry, nothing really even gets me to laugh. It’s all just “meh”.
what is your LEAST favorite stitch?
I don't like counted work at fucking all. So: the cross stitch.
reading this as someone who does cross stitch but is scared of the other kinds of embroidery is like overhearing an incredibly tall and buff person say they have beef with Mr. Tom, the kitten that chills at the bookstore
FUCK Mr. Tom and his stupid little fluffy tail ok. And his little charted designs.
Okay, but this neglects the true villain of embroidery stitches: the French knot
Don't you dare malign my girl again
Ok the french knot is very useful but it is a BITCH to do it consistently
We talk about how this website’s hate mail game is insane, but this might just be a new level
