above all it's a terrible phenomenon, obviously, but also... I'd love to know what's wrong with these people. I'm not a psychologist or sociologist but I find this odd behavior, and this obvious disconnect between what they preach and what they do, fascinating.

they call out fans because they support an alleged racist (based on very old and very circumstantial evidence) and then, on the same breath, they go and say racist things, or support someone that has actually defended himself when hit with backlash for using racist language.

they condemn fans that spend a few dollars messaging an actor they like, and a few days later are spending hundreds or thousands to take pictures or get an autograph from the actor(s) they like.

they harass anyone that ships or stans differently than them, but then it's "ship and let ship" when someone mocks them for their delusional beliefs (rpf or otherwise).

do they all actually believe the things they say, or is it a case of follow the leader + fear of being excluded from the only community they have?
