seattle at night is so pretty
last night i watched gamer (2009), a phenomenally bad but still entertaining movie starring gerard butler as a death row convict framed for murder who has to compete in televised bloodpsort to earn his freedom. really bad cliched writing all around, some interesting choices when it comes to visual style, and very few attempts to make this movie actually about gaming or gamers in any way. mostly an action movie but every joke that's on purpose (there are many which seemed unintentional) feels straight out of idocracy. it struck me partway through that this is probably the latest you could make a movie set in a near future in which smartphones weren't assumed to be ubiquitous. i don't think i saw more than one or two handheld touchscreens the entire movie. rich people have motion controls and vr holograms but everyone else uses regular ass early 2000s PCs. it's clearly somewhat riding on the coattails of the matrix but i still don't understand why they decided it had to be for gamers by gamers about gamers
everything i hear about jobs and employment makes me really glad i locked in at this dive bar because not only do people fucking love drinking and subsidizing a kitchen in which i get to fuck around and have fun and eat as much as i need for free, but now i can walk into basically any non-corporate bar restaurant in this city and find someone who knows and trusts either my boss or one of my coworkers
I do enjoy that EUREKA: Investigative Urban Fantasy has a skill on its character sheet that's literally named ██████████, whose description basically just says "you're not allowed to know what this skill is called or what it does, but putting points in it will benefit the kind of person who would put points into a skill whose name they're not allowed to know", and it's actually telling the truth.
love this can’t believe it only has 1 like

speculating about further dune movies is sooo fun because like. there’s no way they actually make them all through. but just imagine someone who’s been a casual franchise fan without reading the books for like, fifteen years or whatever, and they buy a ticket for the newest epic installment of the dune saga and walk into the theater to see the continued adventures of jason momoa and everyone on screen is sitting in these monstrous cronenbergian animal body horror living chairs
