Adorable photos by Tanja Brandt, a professional animal photographer and collage artist in Germany. Ingo the shepherd dog and Poldi the little owl seem more than happy to cozy up to each other for photoshoots bathed in golden evening light. (Source)
UNT dorm review-maple hall(don't live there)
For those that are choosing what dorm to be in at UNT, do NOT pick Maple hall. And don’t wait to sign up for housing till the last minute because chances are, you’ll be put in Maple. Why shouldn’t you live in Maple? -the walls are so thin that I can hear my suite mates talking(and their voices are kind of quiet) -when you go to the bathroom, you have NO privacy. Your roommate and your suite mates will be able to hear your poop go into the water. -there’s only 2 doors to get in/out of maple and they are in the same location which is the middle of the building. -you have to shut the door yourself or else it will slam as if someone just shot a gun. Its scary as hell when you’re not expecting it. -the water is shit. Multiple times the water has been shut off(maybe an hour) and when turned back on, every single time there’s no hot water and this can last for days. The first time they shut off the water and turned it back on, we had brown water come out of our sink. It also fucks with your shower and causes pressure to build up and you have to run the shower for 30 minutes to an hour until it goes back to normal. It broke my shower head the first time. -you can’t control the temperature in your room. At all. Most of the time they keep it cold(which I prefer, especially to go to sleep) but every once in a while they do something and the air gets still and warm and uncomfortable. Also, no ceiling fan -the power will randomly go out. So far this has happened to me 3 times(that I’m aware of) -there is only one laundry room, and even though it has over 20 washing machines and like 16 dryers, its in the same location as the doors so if you live in the far side of the building, in the back, on the 3rd floor(guess where I live) its a bitch to carry your laundry. -the WiFi sucks. I mean the WiFi sucks everywhere but its the worst in maple. It will randomly shut off on you, every time you get back on your computer you have to wait for it to connect back to the WiFi and this takes FOREVER, and it’s just super slow. But hey at least it’s practically impossible to clog the toilets!
Dorms
Read reviews on every dorm . and listen to the reviews. I didn’t, and I’m stuck in a dorm that has super thin walls(I can hear my suite mates peeing as if they were right next to me), I can’t lock the bathroom door so my suite mates have access to my room at all times, I have had many instances where I had no hot water for days, and I can’t control the temperature in my room. READ REVIEWS AND LISTEN TO THEM

Save money
If you want to save money, instead of buying your own toilet paper, take the toilet paper that isn’t on the rack in the restrooms on campus. Yes it may be shitty(no pun intended) but it will save you money.
Multivitamins
I don't care how much you say "oh I never get sick". That may be true, but you live in a college dorm now. And about 300-600 other people live in the same building you do. Still not convinced? That cold air that you get in your room? That air circulates the whole building. So if someone is sick, and they cough, you'll probably breathe that in later. And the doors? I know for my building, there is only one entrance and if a sick person touches that door, then I will have to too. Then you'll touch your door to get in and out. And water fountains. My campus has 36,000 people, and it is next to impossible to not come in contact with a sick person. Take multivitamins every day to prevent yourself from getting sick, clean your doorknobs. Wash your hands. If you don't take precautions, it's going to bite you in the ass. Trust me, I know. I just missed one of my favorite classes because I thought I wouldn't get sick
If you're going to ride a bike or skateboard, whenever you come up on someone always say 'on your left' or 'on your right' even if they are the only one on the sidewalk and you have a bunch of space. It’s common courtesy
Try to get at least 2 weeks ahead in all your classes, or at least the easier ones so that way if you’re falling behind in one class, you have the time to focus on catching back up or study for the class or two that needs a lot of studying for you to pass.
Print out each class’s syllabus and tape/glue it in the binder so you can always refer to it. They typically have a schedule for homework in it.

Be prepared
Before classes start, take a day to find where all your classes will be so you aren’t wasting time trying to find it five minutes before.
When signing up for classes, have RateMyProfessor.com ready, and trust the reviews
Take water with you everywhere you go, especially if you walk.
Laundry
People always say to bring enough clothes so you can go 2 weeks without doing laundry, but DON’T. Not only will your laundry basket have clothes, but also towels, washcloths, detergent, fabric softener and hangers for those delicate’s that need to be air dried. Your laundry basket will be heavy. I live in maple hall, 3rd floor at the very end and there is only 1 laundry room in the building, and it’s on the first floor, so carrying all that laundry up 3 flights of stairs is killer.Â
If you’re like me, and you eat and walk back to your room and you’re hungry again, get some food containers. At UNT you’re not allowed to take food out of the cafeterias, but if you have a bag with you, load up the containers(discreetly) and put them back in your bag where you can’t see them and go back to your room. This will most likely only work if you have a fridge and/or a microwave.

Time Management
When going to class, make sure to leave 20 minutes before class starts. You never know if you get lost, or if you have to go around something, or have to go to the bathroom, you never know, so leave yourself extra time. If you plan on taking the bus, leave 40 minutes before class starts. That may sound ridiculous but there was one day that I took the bus, and the bus driver took a detour and then completely skipped my stop and I ended up being 20 minutes late to class.
