my problem is ill sometimes say ohhhh these two are so in love. and not mean it romantically. there's loving someone and being in love. which is different. but its not about being romantically involved. its something else. need maybe. desire, but not strictly sexual. hunger for warmth when you're cold. obviously there can be romance and sex involved. but thats true for just loving someone and not being in love. "what?" either you get it or you dont daddy cant explain everything for you. he can only elaborate

I've reached the point where cynicism is a major turn-off for me. You're not smarter than idealists, and you're not helping.

Funny that the stereotypical cynic is an idealist who aged out of it. In my experience, the reverse is true. I was an extreme cynic as a teenager and then I noticed how profoundly limiting it was, and also that "cynics are cool and smart" was a message that was being constantly reinforced by corporate media for some reason.

I also think that the present era has proven that authoritarian leaders don't actually want a population of wide-eyed idealists, they want a population of jaded assholes who are convinced that everyone is lying, any resistance is either a scam or doomed to failure, and nothing can ever get better.

Hope is punk. Despair is corporate.

The idea of the person everyone viewed as a pest turning out to be a savior of sorts is one I’m obsessed with. No one (besides Fiona) ever gave Jerry any grace and yet his moral compass refused to let the honeymoon suite go unchecked and he refused to give up on finding Ohm when it would have been in his best interest to do so. In the end he’s shot in the head with a crossbow for it, like the goats that he shared his mushrooms with who were also viewed as pests which only makes it more special that in his novel Ohm writes in the goat/ram skull that ultimately saves his characters when they too choose kindness and compassion.
