Do you like the fallen hero trope?
Do you like villains?
Do you like evil bioengineers hellbent on gaining power, be it money or strength?
If you answered YES to any of these questions, boy do I have a blog for you!
Indie Professor Venomous from Cartoon Networkâs OK KO Letâs Be Heroes!
Bitten by Plane
âProfessor we really need to talk about the places you fall asleep. . .â
âI wasnât ASLEEP!â
âI was just resting my eyes. You caught me in the act.â
insanemembrxneâ:
No offense is taken. A concealed blink and tug of his scarred grin response enough to hearing the other laugh. Even if so abruptly. Better to have a bit of humor to break any lingering tension.
Gabriel listens with clear interest, full attention on Francis as he speaks, heâd be lying if he said he wasnât curious about his physical appearance. Membraneâs own mutation and mutilations filling in the blanks. Noting the loss of the manâs usual demeanor and confident speech.
A touchy subject.
He wants to prod with various questions. âDid your original teeth fall out?â 'Was the affect to your skin instantaneous or progressive?â 'Are all changes outward or has your physicality changed as well?â What colour were his organs? The uses or practically of his serpentine tongue? His mind runs wild with the limitless possibilities, but he quickly reels himself back in.
This was his colleague, and he would like to think his friend.
A prosthetic knee bounces as he mulls it over, setting aside his empty mug. Meeting the manâs eyes, despite his own remaining hidden from view.
âIt sounds to me as if youâre suffering from Dissociative Identity Disorder or as it was once referred to as, Multiple Personality Disorder.â He speaks honestly, gently as he does with his patients. Though Francis is so much more than that, âItâs possible that your failure and the physical changes youâve gone through were so traumatic, that you created this âalter egoâ as a way to cope and rationalize what you were going through.â
âItâs not uncommon for your alter to be, like a stranger. Or have destructive tendencies, such as self sabotage and self persecution. Amnesia is also quite common. Though every individual is unique.â
âThere are treatments, mainly therapeutic, that may help you better manage this condition if itâs what youâre contending with. Sadly despite even my genius, itâs not as simple as finding a cure.â
A pang of shame and self resentment. For what heâd done to Dib, his own failures and how they haunted him. But he shoves it back down, before he can remember how his son wailed and begged when carted off to the asylum. His own âtreatmentsâ when they tried to fix what was wrong with him, or his motherâs âalternative remediesâ.
Gabriel hesitates, but leans forward to rest his gloved hand atop Francisâ. It doesnât change what heâd done, but he can at least try to be better. For Dib, and for his friend. For himself.
âIâm happy you told me this. Whatever it is⌠If I can help you I will,â He takes a moment, âFrancis, I give you my word. You donât have to face this alone. Iâve got your back.â
If heâd been holding something, it very well might have cracked from the pressure his closed fists are exerting.
It takes every fiber of his being not to slap the hand away in frustration. Membrane was, predictably, trying to help. Though Venomous doubted he could ever actually understand enough to do so. Well, there was one way to make him understand, but heâd rather die before willing Shadow into existence.
are you sure? youâve come this far, little tattletail~
Steeling his nerves, forcing all his control of that little ink blot back into its cage, he grit sharp teeth and shook his head. No no, he had the wrong idea. Francis himself wasnât even sure how to explain it. His notes had been destroyed (though he now knew Shadowy was to blame) and he couldnât for the life of him remember what all heâd done to get like this. All in a lame senseless bid to get his power back. One that had failed.
Sure, heâd made the best of it and he was happier in his own science than he couldâve ever been with POINT, but had it been worth it? A new life, a new bid on purpose, financial stability, a job.... but with such a literal dark side? If their positions had been switched, he wouldâve thought the same thing about mental trauma and coping mechanisms. Something like Shadowy didnât just happen every day, nor to just any man.
âNo, no--â
âItâs not -- Itâs not that. You donât understand. Itâs... something else. Possession? Body swapping? Hell I donât know--â
It all sounded like something out of a bad science fiction movie, and his other hand came up to squeeze the prosthetic one. It wasnât like he could possibly hurt him, anyway. Shadowy might, but Shadowy was on a tight leash. If Francis let up for even a second, he was sure it would end in disaster.
âIâve got no idea what youâd technically call it, but he isnât me. Heâs something I made, but heâs not just in my head. Iâm telling you, Gabriel, heâs not like anything Iâve seen before. Heâs physical, heâs dangerous, heâs--â
better not get TOO chatty, fran. I might get antsy and come play anyway.
Purple energy crackled at the lights overhead, though if one wasnât watching it was easily missed.
âHeâs a disease and I NEED to get rid of him. Iâm running out of time, I can just feel it.â
membrane going off the handle and asking venomous a bunch of questions just gives me this vibes.Â
just. finally answering them all at once.
âyes. progressive. mainly outward, but both. hopefully the same color theyâve always been. itâs immune to venom and has assisted with smells. THERE.â

âCan solve everyoneâs problems but your ownâ
As a single father⌠How true that is.
He can fix anything and anyone, find any solution once thought impossible. Make miracles and fantasy become his own reality. Why did the world need god, when it had Gabriel Membrane? A lot of good that did him when it came to the matters of his own broken family. Progress with his children was slow. Like beating oneâs fists against stone, till torn flesh exposed bone and gave way to infection.
No easy way to right the wrongs done foolishly in the name of âthe greater goodâ.
And unlike his battle against his own wretched anatomy, the limitations of a mortal body, he just couldnât give up on his kids. He wasnât his father.
âHave you tried yoga? Or some, recreational drugs? Helped me when I was doing the kidâs show. I can write you a prescription. Zero possibility of addiction or side affects, though you may notice an increased appetite and cravings for starfish of all things⌠Or you can do physical training. Work off that energy.â
Like Membrane has any right to talk about anger management.
Thereâs a reason everyone has to sign an NDA and forfeit their rights to the company if they want to get close to him. Imagine to protect, avoiding lawsuits, all that.
âBut if I may ask, one man of science to another, what exactly- Are you trying to cure?â
The idea of possibly doing yoga on prescription drugs snaps Venomous out of his stump, bursting out a sharp bark of laughter. He hadnât meant it to be rude, but the suggestion had caught him off guard. He might have to take Gabriel up on his offer, if only to try things he hadnât.
âSorry, I-- Sorry. I hadnât considered that. But when I say Iâve tried everything else, Iâve tried everything else.â
Both with his own anger issues and said cure.
âThe temper is easier than... Itâs a long story.â
And an embarrassing one.
âTo cut it short, I was young and impulsive, naive to think I could fail. But I did, and after using myself as a test subject, no less. The side effects, among sharper teeth and purple scales, were to say... Undesirable. I could deal with this.â
get to the point, francis. donât be a coward. maybe membrane can help.Â
âI still donât know what I did to create him, but the best way to describe it is âalter egoâ.â
âHeâs... Me. But not. Iâm not present when he takes over. But when he does, all he causes is chaos. I just want him gone.â

Good was a word to use for it. Giving a nervous smile, Francis massaged the back of his neck with a half chuckle. Sure, he was financially sound, and several of his projects were going swimmingly, but one of them had been at a roadblock for almost a year now. The only one that mattered, in fact.
The same results, the same disappointments. It seemed the two scientists were at the same standstill. Unable to move forward in a meaningful way, but refusing to stop trying. Possibly driving themselves insane from it as well.
âAll but one are working out. Iâve had a hard time focusing on anything but a cure and Iâm not even sure itâll work. Not that Iâve had much progress in the first place.â
If Shadow had anything to say about it, anyway. Poetic that it was his own fault he was in the mess couldnât get out of in the first place.
âTaking it one day at a time, I suppose. Sad to hear youâre at a similar roadblock. Frustrating, isnât it? Can solve everyoneâs problems but your own.â
âItâs enough to want to break something.â
@insanemembrxneâ conât
Well that was a first. A hero type (written all over the kidâs face and tone it was impossible NOT to tell) explaining himself with... another heroâs high profile name? Not a name of his own, or a pose, not even a catchphrase. Just a simple âi hang out with a celebrity.â
Venomous inwardly cringed, remembering his days like that. POINT had been... an event, if anything.
âI suppose I have seen you running around after him. Or, running around after a blue blur, rather.â
âDo you ever get tired of following in someone elseâs footsteps, kid? Canât imagine side kickinâ is any fun.â

âGuess the only thing to do is to die mad about it.â
That⌠hadnât meant to be a pun at first but he makes no indication it was an accident.
âOh COME ON not you tooâ
Oh boy, here comes a lecture. Francis sighs aloud and pinches the bridge of his nose in exhasperation.
âVladimir. Tell me something. And be honest.â
âIs this really a thing you canât handle? A twelve year old playing with English? Hs friends chiming in on it? You really expect to be great and powerful, yet you let some child get to you with his SPEECH ALONE?â
âGuess the only thing to do is to die mad about it.â
That... hadnât meant to be a pun at first but he makes no indication it was an accident.

âWell, I really only need my thermos to actually hold the ghosts I catch,â Danny mentions off handedly, tossing the container up and down again. The cackles and shrieks of the captured ghosts jingle inside.
âBeing a ghost myself makes it easier. We fight at equal power levels, but as long as I outsmart them, theyâre not so tough.â He replies, clipping the thermos to his belt for safekeeping.
For someone claiming to be witty and smart, heâs always been rather oblivious to anything outside âspaceâ or âghost hunting.â
"So let me get this straight."
Venomous crossed his arms, once again arching an eyebrow.
"You go fisticuffs with other ghosts for some reason, decide you're better, beat and or outsmart them.... and then trap them in a soup thermos?"
His stare was almost incredulous, lost in the purpose of it all. Why was this particular ghost any better than any others? What gave him the right to kidnap and contain them? If Francis wasn't interested in the boy's physiology, he certainly was now interested in what went on in that little head of his.
"You may have to explain further, kid."

â If it was down to me to save your life, would you trust me to do it? â (Wrxthfulguard)
âI would hope you would, but wouldnât expect anything to come of it if I were you.â
âIâm not exactly the kind of man someone would want to save.â
@wrxthfulguard
âWell, first you have to find an actual portal. Portals between the physical and spectral realms open all the time, but theyâre also very unstable. Making a portal is an entire other can of worms and if you do it wrong you open a black hole instead.â Danny elaborates.
âAnd because theyâre so unstable, if you get trapped on the other side, thereâs no guarantee of you ever getting out. Especially if the radioactive atmosphere suffocates you first.â
âAnd then you have to find a way to actually bring it back with you without it exploding. Itâs pretty picky, only really melding well to the souls of recently deceased and itself.â
âYou must come into contact with this kind of stuff often?â
Wonder how much heâd help Ven if played nice? It certainly painted a morbid picture if he tried going after any himself.
âAnd let me guess. Youâve already created lots of gear and gadgets to fight other ghosts, huh?â
Surely, he could deconstruct one if he got his hands on it, or work backwards if he managed to con the kid out of ectoplasm in the first place. It wasnât unheard of for him to work in reverse, though it was far more tedious.
âSince youâve been doing this for -- what did you say, two years?â
