The Everlasting, by Alix E Harrow, is easily my favorite book of this year. I read a lot of fantasy, some with romance, some not, and truthfully, I was starting to feel a bit burned out on the genre. But this book. Oh, this book was exactly what I needed.
Listen. I am holding your face gently and insisting that you read it. It is a beautiful, sorrowful, hopeful story about, well… stories. Why we tell them, how they shape us, and how they can be usurped for nefarious purposes. It’s also about love, and choosing to love, and to live, even if it seems hopeless. I haven’t cried at a book in a long, long time, but The Everlasting moved me to tears several times,
I had to try and draw Una and Owen, and I attempted to channel all my love for their story into this. I hope I’ve done them at least a little justice.
