tree grafting techniques

Not only is this legit, it’s unbelievably neat and tidy! I’ve done some of the grafting techniques, but I tend to (because *gestures to self*) end up cutting my hands more than the plant material.
Grafting is really common. Most edible fruit trees, cultivated roses, some tomato plants etc are grafted onto a different rootstock as standard- you can control size that way, or make a useful but weak plant much stronger. As long as your two plants are related closely enough and you have cambium to cambium connection (cambium is the thin layer of green under the bark), you can do all sorts of weird shit - like a single tree that gives you plums, cherries, apricots, peaches and almonds.
And layering is fun! Free plants! The plant will sometimes do this itself when a branch touches the ground and starts sprouting roots.

I love that Jules Verne asked the question "What kind of person could circumnavigate the world in 80 days?" and decided that the answer was not a groundbreaking explorer or genius inventor, but a guy who's really, really, really obsessed with train and boat schedules.
my final paper for my CS degree was literally "how can we algorithmically optimise for the fastest possible circumnavigation route on commercial flights?", which incidentally required me to adopt a very good working knowledge of what flight options are available at what times (and also led to me accidentally memorising several hundred airport codes)
incidentally the fastest possible route seems to be about 51 hours, if you're working from 2022 schedules like i was. if you use current schedules and are very optimistic about how quickly you can transfer between flights, you can maybe get it down to around 48 hours (also known as 25 millivernes).
The very best thing about tumblr is that you can make a post about a 154-year-old novel and get responses like this.

not to be captain obvious here but they literally just knowingly lied about this for a decade & ruined our lives. there was never any evidence to support trans women having an advantage over cis women it was always just made up to further transmisogyny & sexism.
also notice how the telegraph is really trying to avoid using the word trans women, even referring to a trans women as a women is a crime in the uk.
The thing is this isn't the first study to confirm this. We've had multiple studies that have said this for over a decade.
But they have been ignored by the media and governments because the goal has never been fairness, but rather the isolation and othering of trans women and girls from their peers.
So I fully expect this study to get ignored by the media and governments same as the others before it.
