With the recent release of Donkey Kong 64 for Nintendo Switch Online, more players have discovered the Beaver Bother minigame and its infamous reputation for being unfairly difficult. The image in this post presents a method (the "60° Rule") used by Donkey Kong 64 speedrunners to consistently succeed at this minigame.

The object of Beaver Bother is to play as a Klaptrap crocodile enemy who needs to corral a preset number of Gnawty beaver enemies into a hole before time runs out. Pressing B makes the Klaptrap gnash its teeth and make the Gnawties run away briefly. During this scared state the Gnawties are able to fall into the hole.

However, the Gnawties often appear to run away unpredictably, giving the game its reputation. The image demonstrates how the Gnawty and Klaptrap need to be aligned for the scaring to work:

-drawing an imaginary line tangential to the hole parallel to the direction of the Klaptrap's travel, the Gnawty and Klaptrap need to be aligned so that they are both on the line that is at a 60° angle to the tangent line. -once they are aligned like this, and the Gnawty is close enough to the hole, pressing B at that moment will actually scare it away in the correct direction to make it fall into the hole.

Players of Super Mario Advance may recall that one of the major changes in that game compared to the Super Mario All-Stars version of Super Mario Bros. 2 (on which it is mostly based) is the inclusion of two new boss intros for Fryguy and Clawgrip, respectively.

In both cases, the action stops and a cutscene shows four bubbles (identical to Wart's bubble attack) float up from the bottom of the screen and surround an entity before transforming it into the boss (a mask for Fryguy and a small Sidestepper crab for Clawgrip).

The game actually contains two unused scenes for the same intro happening with two more bosses: Mouser and Tryclyde, shown restored in the footage. Mouser is created from a unique small mouse sprite, while Tryclyde is created from a Cobrat.

This implies that during the game's development the idea of Wart's magic being responsible for most of the game's bosses was more prevalent, before these scenes were scrapped for an unknown reason.

In Super Mario Sunshine, a commonly known glitch is the Dune Bud high jump, whereby a Dune Bud on Gelato Beach is sprayed and then Mario performs a Ground Pound in such a way that he is in mid-air when the Dune Bud activates. This results in Mario being launched so high up into the air that he takes several minutes to fall back down.

However, an interesting interaction of this glitch that actually reveals some of the inner workings of this game can be seen when it is performed directly after defeating the Wiggler boss, immediately before the Shine Sprite spawns. This is shown in the footage; note the unusual black sky during the cutscene.

The reason for this is that the skyboxes in this game (as in many other Mario games like Super Mario Galaxy) actually follow Mario instead of remaining fixed in space. When Mario is launched into the sky, the skybox follows him, so when the camera switches to showing the Shine Sprite, the sky is no longer visible from the ground, having been pulled upwards by Mario.

Top: the snowy ground texture in Cool, Cool Mountain in Super Mario 64 is blurry and yellowish, not recognizable as anything specific.

Bottom: it turns out that it is actually a stock proto of a blanket from a commercial texture CD, made more blurry and recolored. Interestingly, the original blanket's color would also have fit for the purpose of making snowy ground, but the color was likely introduced to give some visual variety to the environment and to keep all ground in the course from being some shade of light blue.

In Mario Party 8, the Scooter Pursuit minigame features the characters riding hovering scooters. Interestingly, two placeholder models exist in the game's files associated with it, one being a red Mario on a red scooter and the other being a blue Wario on a fully textured scooter.

Notably, while Red Mario is merely in a regular standing pose, he is at least facing the right direction. Blue Wario, on the other hand, is attempting to grip the handles of the scooter, but is facing the wrong direction.

While the purpose of putting Blue Wario the wrong way around in this model is unknown, a humorous (though unlikely) reason would have been that the designers were considering him standing like that in the finished game as a joke, since Wario has a type of personality where it would have been fitting for him to not take the minigame seriously in this manner.

An extremely rare, unexplained glitch has been recorded on only a few occasions in Super Mario Odyssey whereby the fog in the Cap Kingdom will have its bloom effect multiplied by several orders of magnitude, completely drowning everything inside it in blinding light.

In Paper Mario, the Master has an unused, unfinished attack found in his code whereby he flies at Mario and then appears to be stuck in mid-air, doing nothing. This would at first seem to be simply completely broken and require the game to be restarted, but waiting 5 and a half minutes will actually make him complete the attack and do damage (most of the waiting time cut out in the footage). He will also remain in mid-air next to Mario on the next turn after this.

This is due to the fact that the attack takes 10,000 frames to complete, which is around 5 and a half minutes at the game's 30 frames per second framerate. While broken and unfinished moves are nothing out of the ordinary for RPGs, it is rare to find a move that appears to freeze the game but actually manages to complete in an unreasonably long amount of time.

Originally, the Chinese translation of Kamek's threat to Mario in Super Mario Galaxy had him telling Mario to go to hell, which was removed later.

Top: in the intro to Super Mario Galaxy, Mario manages to hold onto Peach's Castle as it is lifted up into space. However, Kamek appears and blasts Mario away with the words "So long! Enjoy your flight!"

Bottom left: in the 2018 Chinese Nvidia Shield port of Super Mario Galaxy, Kamek tells Mario "永别啦!下地狱吧!", which translates roughly to "Goodbye forever! Go to hell!"

Bottom right: in the Nintendo Switch version, which was a new translation into Chinese, Kamek now says "你就给我在地上打滚吧!" which translates roughly to "Go roll on the ground!", removing the harsh wording of the original translation.

Through chaining together various glitches in Donkey Kong 64, it is possible for any Kong to enter any transformation barrel and as such use any other Kong's abilities in this manner.

The footage shows Tiny Kong, who is normally only able to use Mini-Monkey to shrink in size, using three other abilities instead: Diddy Kong's Rocketbarrel Boost, Chunky Kong's Hunky Chunky, and Lanky Kong's OrangSprint.

Note that while some animation irregularities occur due to Tiny Kong's model not matching up perfectly with the models of the intended Kongs, there are no gameplay issues at all and she (as well as every other Kong) can use all abilities the same way the respective intended Kong can.

Top two images: in Luigi's Mansion, the bills found throughout the game as one of the money collectibles are worth 20,000 G each.

Third image: however, looking very closely at the bills in-game reveals they actually read "10,000" on them.

Last image: extracting the textures for the bills from the game's files confirms this. The bills (note that green and brown bills are actually just two cosmetic skins for the same item and have no functional difference) all read "10,000 G" or "10,000 GOLD".

It is clear that the developers originally intended each bill to be worth 10,000 G and then "rebalanced" the money value to be 20,000 G. It is possible that the intent was that it would be too difficult to see the texture at the game's original resolution for this to be an issue.

Development images of an unused underwater hotel originally planned for Hotel Mario, published in 2025. This was almost certainly the scrapped hotel meant for Iggy, who does not have a hotel in the finished game.

The publication of these disproves the "Iggy's Cheese Hotel Theory" that stated that Iggy may have originally been planned to have the scrapped Cheese Hotel mentioned in interviews with the game's development team. It appears that the Cheese Hotel was simply never considered for the final game, and was shot down at an earlier stage in the process.

Please note that everything mentioned under "The facts" in the theory image is still accurate information; merely the speculation has been proven incorrect via the surfacing of additional information.
