Not sure how many of y’all will be interested, but every week (seasonally) I go on a Toad Patrol for the charity Froglife.
Here’s a bucket full of horny toads; the full count at the end of tonight was 126!

looked up and miss girl was sitting on the roof STARING at me. tried to get her with her head right behind the moon but she took off too early!
How did it get up there
It’s difficult to tell - typically light fixtures are installed using some combination of screws and brackets to affix them to the wall, but in this case the actual point of connection is obscured by a cat.

I think it might be useful if we viewed representation as an imperfect community effort rather than a big, heavy weight that every writer, artist, animator, etc needs to bear by themselves.
Also I've always viewed it as a "Yes, and" endeavor. For example I don't mind queer villains in fiction but I do have a problem when that is the only queer representation in a certain context.
You're only allowed to kill your gays if there's more than one and you don't kill all of them.
Okay. So. I say this as kindly as possible.
This post is not about making iron-clad Rules for Good Rep.
This post is about actually paying attention to your community, and the communities of the people you are portraying in your writing, and putting a little thought into finding the underrepresented and portraying it. It’s also about taking a breath and absolving yourself of the need to do it perfectly as a marginalized person. There is no perfect way to do it, because no group is a monolith.
I’m just a little weary of having to manage moral scrupulosity in myself and my community.
If I followed this rule to the letter, as a queer author who loves tragedy, I would not be allowed to write a single-character work of tragedy and make it queer. You know? Can we be messy? Can we let each other be messy?
And the post is also not limited to queerness.
If one does not like how the usual stories go — if one feels unseen — then the solution is more stories, rather than clamouring to take away other people’s pens.
You are allowed to tell your stories.
The answer to the representation question is just simply 'more' (in my humble opinion). Not 'better' or 'good', just 'more'. For every person that 'bad' representation doesn't represent, there will be just as many for whom that is 'good' representation. So just keep creating! Give more, write your own experience if you don't see yours up there! Offer criticism as to why for you this is bad representation, but don't use that as a hard and fast rule for all other representation. It's important to point out when representation is only one sided, or plays into other prejudices but don't just chuck it all out. Find what's good in there and keep on making. You're allowed to find representation that is unsatisfying, work out why and talk about that!
We're all looking for black and white rules that will allow us to be 'good' or 'bad', that we can confirm something is 'good' or 'bad', but reality is far more mixed than that and what we all need to work on is being comfortable with things when they are grey. If you find it easy to condemn, it's worth probing into why that is and what is satisfying about coming to that conclusion. We'll all have things that we draw lines against, and that's no bad thing, but trying to apply that line to others is where things get messy.
Basically, go forth and create! Or if you find that difficult, talk more about what you want to see, just as much as you talk about what you don't want to see.

Still my favorite X-Files post on this whole damn site.
Dresden Codak turns 21! Prehistorical incarnations aside, my first proper DC comic launched on June 8th, 2005 with THE TOMORROW MAN!
Two decades and change since picking up the pen and I have to say I feel like I've made some improvements since then:
Robert C. Weaver Federal Building, by Marcel Breuer (1965-1968). The white structures at the bottom were added by Martha Schwartz in 1990.
As higlighted by SOSBrutalism, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development that was housed there officially relocated elsewhere, and the fate of the building is uncertain (also considering the context created by the "architectural opinions" of the orange disgrace).
