Iâve mentioned before how pornography requires a pseudo-dehumanisation of the man in order to dehumanise the woman. The male has to be a stand-in for the viewer, like the blank-slate protagonist of a film. The individual man has to be erased to complete the propaganda, for sexual domination has to be by all men against all women, or else the entire patriarchal house-of-cards falls down. In all sexual violence, the individual male sacrifices himself - his empathy, his love, his humanity, in the paranoid pursuit of aligning himself with the collective male.
and not percieve it as anything other than pure, inhuman malevolance - but rather as a stand-in for some random guy, perhaps just like them - is a testament to just how weâre totally used to pornography completely and utterly saying the quiet part out loud.
And the tag saying âMAKE HER COME [âŚ] LETâS GO BROTHERâ: This is the language of pornography: the collective male dominates, penetrates and consumes the collective female. Her destruction is inherently erotic - her âconsentâ and orgasm are proof that she is fundamentally masochistic, and through this men prove that their sadism is not just natural but transcendent. But the language of the tag is still positive - it is not attempting to incite violence, and implies some veneer of consent. However, the foundation of how sexual language is constructed - and how/why it is used - is of male thinking, of sexual violence, of rape, of the collective male vs the collective female. There is no real need for us to cheer on the concept of some random âbrotherâ making a woman orgasm: sex is not a spectator sport; but nonetheless, the language evokes that imagery, and would not be used that way if it didnât satisfy something in both the writer and presumed reader. Note how the woman is still âherâ - nameless, representative of âotherâ - whereas the man retains some inherent relation to the reader. When I say that the man is pseudo-dehumanised, this is what I mean: he is an actor, a symbol - but, at the end of the day, he is an actor of sexual violence, and therefore re-earns his humanity, in a way she, ânaturallyâ, cannot.
