internally, you must start adding “and they still can’t stop us” to the end of every dismaying statistic about rape, male violence, and woman-hating. 1 in 9 girls are sexually abused, and they still can’t stop us. a woman is killed by a partner or family member every 10 minutes, and they still can’t stop us. the global pay gap is still wide, we have not achieved gender parity in global politics, etc etc etc, and they still can’t stop us. women & girls can’t be stopped. we carve out our lives and make change. we are at war and many individual battles are lost, the suffering is enormous. but women will win the war (and are winning across the eons), because everything they’ve done so far hasn’t been able to put a dent in the collective female spirit, which is evident when you look at the curve of human history and how we never give up on improving, inventing, innovating, changing life for the better

Something about the bastardization of the story time and time again proves that nobody in power really cares about the people who would resonate with King’s Carrie White. A girl so ugly and repulsive she’s been removed from her own story. The societal need for women and girls to be constantly perceived as attractive is what fuels a fair amount of her torment in the book, but that person isn’t even allowed to exist on the screen. We cannot empathize with her; it isn’t allowed. It’s fascinating to me.

Conservative beauty standards are back with a vengeance which means it's especially important to go out this summer with bellies out and bodies unshaved. Also be unapologetically disabled with mobility aids and wearable medical devices and stim toys and ear defenders and all that stuff. You need it. People need to see it. Everyone needs to be reminded that life is unquestioningly more enjoyable when you're not living inside an arbitrary set of rules created by people who are offended by all the wrong things.

ive been having a lot of thoughts lately about what my goals are, who are potential allies in my feminism, who i relate most to, and coming to some different conclusions than i think a lot of online radfems tend to. I've been running this blog for ~10 years, and I've seen the same tired discourse cycles play out over and over. things stay so insular, (I know a lot of that is out of our control due to being blocked-and-stay-safe'd into a cupboard. but still.) I think there is a serious lack of understanding shown towards afab trans people. Of course it's the same in the reverse, they don't understand us. I'm not claiming to speak for all radical feminists but as a woman who is at least a bit GNC, who is drawn to others like me, I am becoming increasingly frustrated with this stupid millimeter thin but seemingly impenetrable wall between us. At least in many ways, i think we are the same kind of people, who got nudged one way or the other and grew into different shapes from the same starter plant. I think afab trans people are closer to feminist consciousness than the average "normie" woman, even a liberal feminist one. because like me, trans identified female people have recognized with horror that something is deeply, deeply wrong with the traditional heteropatriarchal world, and don't feel they fit in as a "woman" in society, as society defines it, whatsoever. That starting point is already way farther than your average "normie" woman ever gets, and I think it's very similar to the starting point for some radical feminists. Not to mention, the dwindling to almost to total lack of young GNC and butch women, while we see a proliferation of trans men and nonbinary female people, to me it's obvious, these are the same fucking people. I feel like a straggler who hasn't gotten with the program and joined the crowd, rather than a different type of person. I'm not saying i approve of the program, or that I'm going to join it, I'm just trying to articulate how I conceptualize my place in this insane world. I'm not sure what my point is, or if I even have one. But this is something I have been thinking about a lot. And I'll probably elaborate on more later as I continue to think things through.

i truly do think that most people if confronted with it and pressed on it would agree. but it's comfortable to gain privileges from someone else's suffering, especially if you don't have to see that suffering directly.

the poem literally starts with "so this guy we are going to talk about is Not a good person and he brought unimaginable suffering to countless people in a meaningless war" and the people are surprised when the suffering he brought IN A WAR includes rape. because women famously aren't raped in war. i am sorry, i love achilles, he is one of the most interesting characters of ancient literature to me, but it is a very important part of the narrative that he is cruel, ego-driven, rageful and violent, and it's THE THING that makes iliad interesting. like genuinely, if you're not interested in ancient reflections on what the realities of warfare are, what are you even reading it for

if you see someone talking about how reading about the misogynistic torture of female people was so upsetting that she wishes they could be left out of the story entirely, maybe show some fucking compassion instead of just mocking her and lecturing her about how actually all the rape is what makes it interesting? not everyone has a strong stomach for reading countless retellings of the sorts of brutality men have inflicted on us for millennia and still do to this day. it’s not lost on any of us that our culture finds the sexual torture of women exceedingly interesting. maybe we should be aware of how constant exposure to this sort of thing eats away at women’s mental health without adding anything to their lives, and we should show empathy when they say they wish they could read famous texts without constantly hearing about how much all the characters hate women
