i joke but it is kind of funny that for all the using undertale to try and "solve deltarune" no one picked up on the fact that all of the pink and yellow cat stuff was foreshadowing not some kind of secret evil mastermind killing dess and ruining spamtons life but instead the pink and yellow cat character we know already exists
y'all really weren't kidding with "the biggest indicator of ralsei being transfem is how hard ppl are angrily trying to disprove it" oh my god the shit i've seen this past week 😭
utdr fans will convince themselves that actual straight-up woody from toy story is gonna have major significance to the plot and is connected to some demonic cat creature whose role/identity is still shrouded in mystery because of an unrelated shitpost toby posted to tumblr like a decade ago that was rediscovered and went viral around ch2, but if you so much as imply that ralsei wants to be a girl they'll act like you shot their dog
im starting to think a lot of ppl might not have realized that the whole mike thing is poking fun at them specifically
figurin them out :3

what if we were two little flowers and we got one day to be human and we fell in love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(very brave voice) i think what the green pippins is doing to tenna is problematic
Baldi's Pippins
i know that i’ve made my thoughts abundantly clear on the Deltarune fanbase’s case of Spamton Fever, and that probably makes it seem like i don’t like him at all, but truthfully i really used to enjoy him a lot back right off the heels of Chapter 2’s release with just how much he genuinely unsettled me, and even today i still really enjoy that aspect of his character. meanwhile, i don’t think i can muster even an ounce of love in my heart for Roblox The Fandomjoke
the more i think about that scene in Chapter 5 the more i realize how utterly crazy this guy’s whole deal is. Tenna is a bad boss, yeah, but this is guy is basically Yoshikage Kira
Well this got awkward,,,

There are a lot of reasons I think it's an ethical good to minimize engagement with proprietary gen AI, many of which are materialist (minimizing contributions to techno-fascism, to ecocide, to the demoralization and deskilling and global stratification of labor, etc.). But in the specific context of fandom I think a big part of what bums me out about the proliferation of proprietary-AI use is the way it erodes the human collaboration that can be one of the greatest affordances of fannish creation. Even if people are using gen AI for things that seem ancillary to writing, like brainstorming or editing or translating (and I would personally argue that those activities are in fact integral to writing), that's still outsourcing to a corporately owned tool of knowledge enclosure what could be the foundation for building relationships and learning with other people. It can be scary and hard and lonely to look for those people when you're new in a fandom space, or if you're shy or experience social anxiety, but like so many other things, if one stops putting in the effort, one stops building the skills. And thinking about a version of fandom where fewer and fewer people collaborate: that really feels like a loss.
the chad “our protagonist is legit depressed and an nicotine addict” Chainsmoking Cat versus the virgin “teehee this freaking wholesome moe old man needed a woman to tell him he should brush his teeth after smoking and use deodorant” Smoking Behind The Supermarket With You
you are not an endearingly rude and unfriendly cartoon character you need to be nice to people
independent artists really can so easily be just some of the most selfcentered and defensively hostile people youll ever meet. i'll never forget in one of my early early convention days, when i was tabling, it was i think either before the con had opened or i was just making my rounds and chatting with someone at their booth because i liked their stuff. she had this little prize wheel you could spin after a purchase and it was the first time i'd seen anyone do that kind of thing at a convention, it was to me associated with like corporate booths at summer festivals or whatever. anyway we were chatting and i brought up the wheel and complimented it and then afterwards i said something along the lines of "its a good idea, i might steal that for my next one!" and she got dead fucking serious and just went "well, don't."
as if she had some meaningful ownership over the concept of letting people spin a little wheel at your booth. and i would be infringing upon her business venture by doing so myself three states away the next time around.
anyway theres a ton about selling at conventions and stuff thats a ton of fun and i do miss and a lot of great people in those spaces as well. there are plenty of people who do think of everyone being in it together and are willing to freely share their ideas, techniques, and friendship among their peers. but it's also a breeding ground for people who have the temperament and worldview of instagram influencers but think the fact that they are artsy ~burnt out gifted kids~ makes them the lovable underdog. and it feels like those people are running the show now that everyone with a more humble approach has been priced out of the scene entirely
i actually don't think it's a bad faith nonequivalent argument to point out that artists are perfectly capable of holding a moral stance about what they will produce and sell when it comes to AI, but not when it comes to gambling or sweatshop labor. i can't really imagine why being righteously opposed to AI is just natural regardless of whatever hypothetical financial benefits could be gained from it, but expecting a similar stance towards extractive business practices or exploitative labor conditions is some sort of unbelievably high bar to meet. Why? Can anyone explain to me why other than pure, naked self interest from artists that AI is a more legitimate moral concern than those other two things?
I often see AI discussion framed too much in terms of creative integrity and not enough in how damaging it is to the environment. While I dislike AI from a creative standpoint, this doesn't anger me all that much. It's far more the sheer audacity of destroying lots and lots and lots of water and critical natural resources for the sake of generating funny images.
One explanation I can offer for the baffling contradiction you have put forward is that it's an easier fight. It is much easier to challenge and shut down AI on a personal level than it is to overhaul the ecosystems that many artists depend on to sell, especially in chains where they are ordering items to be produced across the world.
However, even with it being difficult to rule out exploitative labour, it should be the minimum bar to meet when producing goods. If you are using a supply chain that uses exploitative labour, you should expect to be challenged in this regard and eat shit. You should do some research into the chain you are using and find the best alternative. If you are refusing to do that then what the fuck and also any opinions you have with regards to AI are completely worthless and irrelevant.

one of the best jokes in I See You Aizawa-san is that there's a male character in the main friend group but only just sort of in theory, no one dislikes him but you get the sense that the girls are just kind of passively letting him hang out in the general area (one of the girls refers to him as "Boy"), and in one of the scariest most game-changing chapters he's very casually revealed to have two moms
For those wondering here's the panel
The funniest part is just how casual this is. Like, Seta-san's two defining traits are "Theater kid" and "Superstitious and deathly afraid of ghosts" and the other girls just vibe with him and let him hang out with them. He hasn't done anything important, he's not really relevant to the plot, usually he's not even the butt of any jokes, he's just there and the girls just let him hang around.
Their friend group is pretty much "Weird lesbians plus Steve Seta" and that makes the reveal that he has two moms way funnier.
I'm still convinced Seta's an egg.
