they’re doing “is shaving feminist” discourse on twitter right now and we all know my thoughts on it. no need to do this again. but i will say. if our most “progressive/leftist feminist” women cannot wrap their heads around the concept of shaving being a tool of the patriarchy aimed to control women’s bodies that we should be ultimately working to discard. then maybe we should all just line up and sh**t ourselves. maybe there’s no hope for women after all.
like if we can’t rally against shaving what the fuck are we even doing anymore. genuinely.
it’s so interesting to see the ways feminism has been defanged and pacified in our broader culture. suddenly everything is about the individual woman instead of about the oppressive systems controlling us.
and of course you see this same logic being used to defend trad wives and right wing women, because feminism is about “the women’s right to choose” because what if she wants to be barefoot and pregnant at 14? did you ever consider that? you think you’re a better feminist than her, huh? what happened to girls supporting girls? so grim. so incredibly grim.
or the “she does it for herself” line of thinking, where if you ever criticize anything a woman does ever through a feminist lense or say that she’s ultimately doing it because men expect it of her, suddenly YOURE the misogynist. you’re the one forcing male expectations onto her. you’re bringing men into the conversation and centering men and can’t a woman just conform for herself, sometimes? just because it makes her feel good? and not doing it makes her feel dirty and ugly? just for her?
like following this point to the end, there is no feminist action that can be done here. this is a nonstarter. we can’t encourage women to examine why they feel the need to shave or to stop shaving, because maybe some women do it for themselves or have sensory issues. we can’t tell women to stop doing unpaid unacknowledged reproductive labor in the domestic sphere, because maybe she’s just a tradwife for her. and that’s a choice she gets to make, and it’s inherently feminist that she made it. we need to stop patting women on the back for doing nothing and calling that “feminist” or hiding from uncomfortable truths just because they’re hard to confront and make us look inward or change our behavior. no work gets done like that. none at all.

“Rent prices have exceeded income gains by 325 percent”
Huh. I wonder who could possibly be the cause of all this financial mess...
Most of those iPad babies you're seeing are probably sick of that fucking tablet too.
A lot of parents are very bad at parenting and don't like their children. They don't want to talk to them, be around them or do anything with them. You know, the things kids need and will remember the most once they're grown.
So they train them from an early age that they should always be distracting themselves with something as to not be in the way or annoying the adults.
For me it was books and TV when I was little, and computers later on. That's all I did because it was all I could do without getting yelled at, and it was the closest to human interaction I could get most of the time.
I'm visiting some dear friends of mine this week, and all of us have at least one disability. While we were eating breakfast this morning we were discussing the impact medication has on our lives.
I was sharing how difficult everything was for me when I had moved to a new city where the cost of housing was much more expensive and I couldn't afford medication. Over the course of the year, my energy deteriorated rapidly. First I couldn't keep up with my job, then I couldn't keep up with housework, then I couldn't keep up with basic hygiene, and eventually even chewing and swallowing became difficult. Sometimes walking to the train, I thought about lying down on the side of the road and how long it would take before a cop would force me to move. I wanted to die but I didn't even have the energy to figure out how.
My friend asked me if I had chronic fatigue. I don't know, because I was never diagnosed. I don't claim it because right now I'm very functional. I can keep up with hygiene, cook, clean, do work, and even exercise! But this is only possible from the combination of four different medications. Right now, I am extremely fortunate in that I have much of my medical expenses covered by my wife's health insurance that she has through work. I pay $415 USD every month for these things I need. I can never take this for granted because I know so vividly how difficult it is to survive without them.
It is perhaps evidence of my own self-absorbed perspective, but my own experience of going without medication (feeling first terrified and then hopeless) has made reading about the Israeli strategy of destroying healthcare infrastructure in Palestine particularly vivid and gutting to me.
I remember reading the book From the River to the Sea: Essays for a Free Palestine and absorbing some fraction of the devastation described by the essay "We Have Lost the Ability to Provide True Care: Three Doctors' Testimonies from Gaza." In this essay, Dr. Reda Abu Assi wrote: "We have lived through seven wars. In each war, we lost coworkers with who, we had memories. In each war, the medical services we were able to provide to patients deteriorated... We have run out of many life-saving drugs; we live on medical aid from abroad, and if it runs out, we have nothing to offer." That was written in October 2023, almost two full years ago.
When I was recovering from surgery earlier this year, I started texting with a guy in Palestine named Fadel (@fadel-dani). Like me, he also struggles with fatigue. For him he has an actual diagnosis--thalassemia, a blood disorder. Like me, he relies on medication for basic functioning, but his medicine is even more expensive than mine-- the equivalent of around $470 USD every month.
A few months after that essay "We Have Lost the Ability to Provide True Care" was written, Fadel experienced firsthand what Dr. Reda Abu Assi described. He survived a bombing of his home, and when he woke in a hospital, he learned they did not even have the supplies needed to remove the shrapnel from his body. They told him that he needed to get to a different country for urgent surgery. He set up a campaign to raise money for it, and had it vetted by @gazavetters (#197) and 90-ghost.
My name is Fadel Al-Dany, a 23-year-old third-year IT student. My life hasn't … Fadel Aldany needs your support for Help the injured Fadel a
A lot of people follow this blog, and I have been trying to help him to get eyes on this campaign. I think about how isolated and defeated I felt when I couldn't afford healthcare, and it breaks my heart that he is experiencing something so much worse.
THIS RIGHT HERE
You guys are dangerously close to realizing specifically what kinds of people they keep from voting and why.
I want to drill this into everybody’s head:
The United States of America has the highest prison population in the world
Black Americans and Latin people make up the majority of this population (many of whom are non-violent offenders)
Federal Prisons in America require that their state keeps their prisons at a maximum occupancy at all times.
The 13th amendment did not entirely abolish slavery…just one form of it. It remains legal through industrial prison system
Oh and we have privatized prisons which allow companies to actually make money off of keeping people incarcerated
Here’s what’s really perverse: prisoners, who cannot vote, still get counted in the U.S. Census. The more prisoners a county has, the more representation it gets, even though the prisoners cannot vote. See how that works? The more black and brown people they lock up, the more government resources and political representation they get. Even though those prisoners have no say and cannot vote.
If county-A has a population of 50 voters but no prisons, and county-B has a population of 50 voters and 50 prisoners, the county with the prisoners gets more government funding and more political represention. This is sometimes called “prison gerrymandering” and it is used in redistrictring.
Not so fun Fact: Southern states that reliably vote for Republicans also have the highest prison population in the United States. (source). So mass incarceration is a double whammy. It’s both a form of voter suppression and a tool to strengthen white people’s political power.

funniest aspect of being in a transfem for transmasc marriage is that I'll show my wife my gender goals, which are like, photos of onlyfans models, and she'll be all "hubba hubba awooga arf arf arf" and then he'll show me his gender goals and it'll be a man who looks just so unfathomably busted like he looks like he got put into a food processor and then killed with hammers
Left: my gender goals. Right: their gender goals
