There is a small unincorporated place in Virginia called Dolphin and as a child I asked my dad why it was called that (extremely curious child who loved fun facts and with a dad who loved to make up bullshit) and he said that the town was named Dolphin because there was once a hurricane so severe that a Dolphin landed there and the people decided to name the area Dolphin to honor that event (the place is roughly 110 miles from the coast) and I believed him with not a shred of doubt in my little heart. I cannot find the origin behind the name Dolphin so I suppose it’s true until proven false. Even though it’s bullshit he made up.
