So hereâs some info on Ancient Greek wedding traditions which (oh my stars and garters!!) included abducting the bride. With the fatherâs permission, which Hades got before he took her away.
Hereâs a whole book on the subject of Ancient Greek wedding custom and its conflation with funeral rites. (Which sounds a bit like Hades and Persephone to anyone whoâs ever dabbled in things like explication and context)
Hereâs a link to another book that talks about Persephoneâs rise to power as a result of her willingly eating the pomegranate seeds.
Oh shit!!
Hereâs a whole bunch of myths and hymns that talk about her Queen of the Underworld badassery!!
Holy pug tacos Batman!!
Hereâs another book about the myth focusing on the seasonal religious and liminal rites. WHICH TAKE PLACE IN THE DRY SUMMER (not the fucking winter), which you know if you read a book.Way to go, OP!
All these fucking books! Â What could anyone possibly do with them all?!?!?!?! Do you eat books to absorb their powers instead of read them?
A better guess would be that you got into a moral panic over the name of a certain Renaissance statue and maybe after reading three pages of Edith Hamilton or the first paragraph of a Wikipedia article. And then used that to castigate and demean not only the people who actually take their limited time to create gorgeous art but also to denigrate modern day worshippers of Persephone and Hades?
Maybe next time, you stringy piece of over-boiled okra, you might want to take your own advice and pick up a book, instead of reducing the feared and respected Queen of the Underworld who held power equal to or in many interpretations GREATER than her husband into a meaningless pastiche of female disenfranchisement that you seemingly plucked from your own ass.

I think one thing we tend to overlook about our "primary" written sources for norse heathenry is that these books were authored by members of the Scandinavian aristocracy. So not only do these sources reflect post-Christianized values, they're also biased towards the values held by high society.
There are multiple layers of unreliable narration going on.
They're not even primary sources, they're secondary sources (and also a lot of stuff's been lost). We have objects they left behind, but they're also subject to interpretation and biases (see: folks assuming every skeleton buried with "male" grave goods is a man). Heathenry is actually a mess, if you ask me.
Hence the quotations. A true primary source on a religious practice would be written by a religious leader for that religion during the time that religion was widely practiced. We literally have none of this.
I feel like this is especially true since Odin was, apparently, regarded as the God of kings and wealth. If I remember correctly. Nothing against Odin, but that seems like some 1% type of shit.
Okay, this is going to be the last time I make a post on the subject and after that it is getting dropped. Transphobia in the Lokean community is an incredibly delicate and important subject, especially to me. Loki and his family are the ones who helped me come to terms with being trans and the unfortunate experiences I was faced with after I came out.
There are trans and queer people all over the world being told that they're unnatural or going to hell or someone else's God hates us. Having to deal with it in the Lokean community is especially hard for me, personally, because I came into this community thinking it was a safe space. The idea that a loving, forgiving trans nonbinary, queer deity like Loki Laufeyjarson exists for the sole purpose of helping people who feel like outsiders and the world better themselves is a very comforting idea to me. I don't want to see that image of him ruined by transphobic, right wings A-holes because I don't want any other trans or queer person to feel as isolated and unloved as I once did.
And, yes, I realize that probably means I have some kind of fucked up savior complex.
That being said whether Genevieve Gornichec made her book purposefully queer- and transphobic or not, it doesn't matter. These things need to be pointed out, so people can learn recognize what they're doing wrong and hopefully stop or change what they are doing. It goes for everyone. But that book is already out in the world, influencing people inside and outside of the Heathen community.
I have lost friends for pointing out transphobia exists in that book and in other forms of media. And, you know what, that's whatever because I don't need people like that in my life who refuse to learn and listen to reason. I'm done worrying about it. But I'm still worried about the fact that people are unable to recognize transphobia when it is staring them in the face. That is an issue, especially with all the hate crimes taking place in the world that could be prevented if people just stopped to educate themselves.
The video below was recommended to me by a dear friend and I hope that you will watch, and take what it is being said into consideration. I have also posted the phone numbers for the Trevor hotline, which is a helpline for LGBT youth, and the number for the Transgender Lifeline which exists to prevent self-harm in the trans community. There is also a list of LGBT micro aggressions for anyone who might not be familiar for those.
In order to protect your fellow LGB and transgender Lokeans, Heathens, Pagans and LGBT loved ones, I ask that you watch and read these things. They deserve to know Loki and deities like him exist, and love them. Just knowing that could really help someone I think.
Thank you.

Question: if I see someone pull off a Hijab, what should I do? I know there are reasons they are worn so I want to if i should stand in between them and who did this, should i protect them from view somehow, or something else? This has been happening a lot so I feel itâs something everyone needs to know.
Good question! I cannot correctly and effectively answer, as I am a white, non-Muslim person; however, I will reblog in case any of my followers can answer.Â
I asked my Hijabi friend, so hereâs one Hijabiâs answer:Â
âmy opinion is, definitely try cover them or give them something to cover themselves with. And perhaps shoo off the person, without putting oneself in danger! God forbid, if that happened to me, I would like someone to come and comfort me and give me something to cover my hair with and then help me report it to the cops â
If u see it happen to 1 of us, pls cover our head + hair with a coat or shawl or any piece of cloth, while hugging us in comfort. Please donât get hurt by lashing out @ the perpetrators in any way, coz if they dare to do that, theyâre probably too far gone in their own hatred to listen to any reason. Much love + Thank You to anyone who supports us.
yes !! everything said here is important af. if you see someone pull off a girlâs hijab immediately cover her hair and provide comfort. donât talk to the perpetrator but try to get the woman out of there if you can. maybe if you have a scarf on you at the time give it to her so she can wear it until sheâs alone and can replace her hijab. please please protect muslim girls because we already had it hard before donald trump became president and now its gonna be worse with people going around thinking their violence and cruelty is justifiedÂ
for my other white ppl who might have a hard time, itâs my understanding that a hijab is like a major item of clothing, not an accessory like a hat or a scarf.
so think abt it more like if someone just ripped someoneâs shirt or skirt off. u donât want to be left there exposed or have to walk home without it.
everyone, even outside America needs to protect our Muslim sisters in these times.
For men, yes please, we would prefer it if you avoided looking at our hair, and if we donât have something to substitute as a hijab at that moment, anything you could lend us, a jacket, etc, would be very appreciated.
Also, since most girls avoid physical contact with men theyâre not related to, please do not hug them, but rather shoo the offender away if you can, or at least escort the girl to a safe place. You can still offer words of encouragement and support. Furthermore, understand that the victim may not be very welcoming towards you because sheâll obviously be shaken, and wonât know where you are coming from. If thatâs the case, please still give her something to cover herself (hijab is very important, think of it as someone ripping your shirt off) and stand some distance away until you are sure sheâs in safe hands.
Thank you so much for your support, we really appreciate it, god bless all of you.
Thereâs many reason why I always have a flannel on me, and this is one of them.
Just the other day I gave it to a kind hijabi girl at a cafe because some asshole reached across the counter and ripped her hijab off, saying that sheâs now âfreeâ from it
Followers, please rb this and keep this in mind!!!

Ahaha, the reason why Mohammad is specifically mentioned as not being able to be there is because in Islam, portrayals and portraits of Mohammad are forbidden. But they didnât want to be seen as either hand waving him as at the table but not shown or as explicitly omitted.
look I donât want to tell anyone what to do but if you go down that path you will wake up a thousand years later and all your great-grandchildren will be dead
âsuffering feels religious if you do it rightâ no shut up it doesnât. my friends laughing in the kitchen while i make dinner feels religious. the sun on my face after a long winter feels religious.

why are y'all surprised her father said that tho⌠thatâs exactly what the norm is for our religion, anything else is extremism or false ideologies pushed onto our women by ignorant men who wish to control women.
Notice how her dad asked her if something happened cuz he knows thereâs people like this who harass young Muslim girls. If Muslims wanna take their hijab off a lot of the time itâs cuz theyâre trying to escape islamophobia not islam
true true. alot of people think Islam is a very oppressive and strict religion when in reality it it very leniet and simply teaches a way of life. When Trump banned Muslims, many Muslims considered shaving their beards and women thought about taking off their hijab. and when France banned niqabs, ignorant men were like âno women have to wear itâ but ive read the Quran multiple times and it actually says that if your life is in danger then you have the permission to do those things. and the Quran even says that if you are starving and the only meat available is Pork, then you are allowed to eat it to save urself. It also says that if people from another religion force you to denouce your religion by threating to kill you then you are allowed to do so, if it means saving ur life. Islam isnt uptight and oprresive like yall think. Its a guide on how to live life the easiest way
