I think that more fanfiction should be written with the aim to tackle the original meaning of hanahaki. Because when the concept of hanahaki disease was originally created, it was intended to be a metaphor for suppressing oneās feelings.
Your feelings are this beautiful garden of flora inside of your chest. When you express how you feel honestly, you allow for it to grow freely. But when you hide how you feel out of fear of rejection, and try to make it smaller and smaller, the flowers become cramped inside of you, until you choke on your own feelings. Every flower you cough up is something youāve felt, but refused to say.
The whole ādyingā thing is intended to be more symbolic especially. Youāre killing off bits and pieces of yourself and how you feel, because youāre afraid to express yourself.
Itās not really supposed to be, āThe one I love doesnāt love me back, and Iām dying from it.ā Rather, itās more along the lines of, āRepressing your emotions is bad for you, and itās better and healthier to express them freely, even when itās scary.ā
Which is to say that, one, the cure for the disease should be telling the person that you are in love with how you feel. How the other person feels about the person afflicted should have nothing to do with it, as the trope is meant to be about feeling your emotions unapologetically.
And that, two, itās not an inherently romantic trope. Obviously, it has romantic applications, but it can be written for any situation where a character is hiding how they truly feel. This can include a refusal to address a specific trauma, a desire to indulge in something that theyāre ashamed of, and even really practical things, like wanting to ask oneās boss for a higher position.
Although (as an aromantic person myself) I donāt agree with this conclusion about the trope, this application would also avoid people calling it arophobic. When the thing killing the character is a refusal to be honest with themselves, rather than an unrequited love, itās on nobodyās hands but their own to save their life.
There are a ton of ways that this interpretation of the hanahaki disease could be applied in new and interesting ways in fanfiction, and Iād love to read what things people could come up with!
I will never understand why someone would want to skip his little face, I mean just look at him.
Christopher Eccleston did not put so much into playing the doctor and his characterisation just to be skipped and then slagged off by people who havenāt even seen his episodes.
I fully understand having favourites, I have my favourites too but you cant discount an entire actors portrayal of a character without even seeing it.
Christopher Eccleston was given the very difficult job of rebooting doctor who after 16 years and did an incredible job of keeping the shows aesthetic whilst giving it a modern feeling for a new audience and he should be given much more credit for how he handled the roll.
He's my favorite Doctor actually, I wouldn't be into this show without him.
Couldn't stop thinking about that tweet, I love the idea of a god promoting his faith.

Please, for the love of god, please donāt be this person. No matter how long itās been since an update, no matter how many unfinished stories are sitting on their account, no matter what - do not be this person.
Not only is it insanely rude, but you also do more damage than you think be being such a self-entitled ass about something someone created for free and for fun. āThis authorā can see what you say.
RIP decency indeed.
I was literally about to post a chapter once and got a snide comment similar to this - not addressing other readers, just me - and decided to keep the rest of the story to myself. It's still there. I could post it anytime. But I'm not going to.
I also got a glowing compliment on a fic and went into a flurry of writing, suddenly inspired, then by happenstance got a nasty, impatient comment on that same fic a few days and moved onto writing a different fic that didn't have that associated annoyance.
Like. I am writing for fun. For me. I reread and enjoy my fics all the time because they're exactly the story I want to read. I get the same enjoyment out of a fic wither or not anyone else ever sees it or knows it exists.
I'm sharing it for fun too.
I'm not going to share if sharing isn't fun.
Iām not going to share if sharing isnāt fun.
I once got a comment on a fic that just read RIP with my username. It's really fucking demotivating. Maybe the work will end up abandoned, maybe it won't, but don't fucking leave this sort of shit on a fic. It's more likely to prevent any future updates than encourage them. Authors are not vending machines. You can not shake us and force the story out (believe us, many of us have tried doing this to ourselves because we want to finish the story but sometimes life and other shit gets in the way).
listen secret magical creature heritage auās may be cliche and overused but they are my JAM
you canāt tell me Luna didnāt have some sort of fae background. or parseltongue didnāt come from the nagas. or the Malfoyās didnāt have veela blood. or the Weasleyās didnāt come from fire sprites. or the Pervell brothers werenāt necromancers. because I assure you this is 100% canon. fight me.
(What are you even suggesting, this is totally canon. Anyone who wants to get to you will have to fight me first. Bring it.)
Itās fairly obvious if you know what to look for. Unfortunately, so few people do, not realizing that person does not necessarily mean human. But perhaps this is inevitable, given that most nonhumans are dead, elsewhere, or intensely and viciously private nowadays.
A younger humankind would have laughed at the idea of āpure bloodā. If anyone human-shaped was pure, then it was the purely nonmagical humans. Mud Men, many nonhumans affectionately called the tenacious people.
Goodness gracious, where did people think magical blood came from in the first place? The term mudblood? And if you wanted to call a pure elf or fae a creature or a beast, then it was a good idea to dig your own grave first. Save everyone else the trouble.
But that was then⦠and this is now. Now, you often must watch closely.
Lucius Malfoy, for example, is not a terrifying difficult puzzle. One only has to look up the family tree to find their French origins and relation to many prominent Veela clans there. Although, that is perhaps more difficult than it sounds, as the Malfoys have āfixedā all their copies and buried the rest deep in unmarked graves.
But, watching closely⦠the hair and general preening suggested quite clearly, accompanied by a certain slant to the jaw and elegance to the limbs. Along with how the man could lure many a Ministry official into agreements with seamless charm and smooth smiles. And also in the way his handsome face will twist into something terrible in anger, his hands clenching like claws, flexing with half-remembered fire and talons.
When Lucius Malfoy cares for the peacocks at Malfoy Manor, when nobody is watching, he will cluck and coo at them. And they will answer him. Veelas have their own origins, after all, in the avian set of magical creatures.
On the other hand, while Narcissa is loyal to her husband, the Black family has their own hidden nonhuman origins.
She is much more of a lurker than dear bloodthirsty Bella, waiting for the right moment to strike from the shadows, much like viciously protective Andromeda - they are more scavengers than predator, the younger two. Though none the less cruel or dark. None the less protective of their nest.
Narcissa is quiet, unlike the howls of hateful Walburga, much like the silent judgement of cold Orion or the creeping calculation of young Regulus. Entirely unlike the brash swipes and territorial snarls of Sirius, who is more familiar with lurking in shadows and striking for blood than he will ever be comfortable with.
They are so similar, yet so different. What they are has many names, bogeymen is one; they are the brothers and sisters of all the necromantic (and some of the demonic, too), and they come in so many kinds.
Luna Lovegood is another simple puzzle - that she is practically made of thousands of clues is answer enough. That she can see things and creatures and the invisible sorts that most canāt is almost the only clue you need. Fae are a rather insular bunch, after all, and few have the Sight to looking for the Fair Folk or the way their Worlds weave together.
But as for the little clues, well⦠the girlās heritage is in the vegetables in her ears, the odd-sounding sentences and introductions, and the used bottlecaps around her throat. Itās from the inverted reading of everything⦠to the visiting of Thestrals in bare feet and with both an apple and a strip of flesh as offering.
Little things, odd things, but important things.
There are certain Safe Ways of dealing with the world, you see - a certain way to go about doing things. Like tossing salt over your shoulder if you spill it, never breaking a mirror, and not intruding on Fairy Forts for anything. Luck has to be worked for, and a smart fae follows traditions and pays attention when their ears burn. Listening to omens like owls and robins and black cats can save a life. (Luna didnāt know to be listening then, she regrets it now.)
And itās too faint to see, but when she skips, she hovers for a split-second before she falls. Somewhere deep in Luna Lovegood, something is singing a half-remembered warble⦠of wings made of gossamer and glass turned flesh.
Weasleys, on the other hand, are an interesting matter, especially with the introduction of the Prewetts. Weasleys come from a curious line of creature, literally quite curious, and⦠well⦠quite weasel-like in appearance, as opposed to the avian origins of Veela. But Prewetts⦠Prewetts were born of fire - fire sprites, elementals, somewhere between nature spirit and demon, spiteful and fierce and warm and hot.
One would need the right machinery to see it, but it can be felt perfectly fine when a child of Molly Weasley gets angry. The air around them gets quite warm. And they turn quite red, which clashes horribly with their hair, which is sign in itself, really. Quite a temper, fire has, if you poke it.
For those who can see it and are paying attention, Ginny Weasleyās hair rises slightly when sheās furious, and her tomato-red ears give off the faintest of sparks. Luna doesnāt mention it though, because itās not very polite to point out that sort of thing. She does, however, note with some interest that Ronās do the same, after she meets him.
Harry Potter, the infamous Boy Who Lived, is⦠a bit strange. Heās hard to pin down, honestly, almost impossible. When he flies, one might suspect something born of wind or something born with wings. When he fights, one might suspect something animalistic, something extremely loyal and fierce, and maybe a bit mean when provoked out of gentle contentment. Or maybe something powerful, something truly sorcerous or maybe demonic.
He hisses like a naga, heās got eyes between nymph and necromantic, and he acts sometimes⦠elvish in demeanor⦠house-elvish. Itās hard to tell, honestly. Who knows? He certainly doesnāt.
Hermione Granger, while on the subject of the three friends, is actually incredibly obvious. That truly fearsome intelligence? That offensive temper, that righteous determination, that jealous pride, that cruel vindictiveness when crossed? That affinity for fire? That near hoarding of as much knowledge as she can reach? A tad insecure, but the young ones are always easily upset, and the kindness and crusading isnāt at all a dealbreaker.
Oh, wouldnāt the so-called āpurebloodsā be surprised? But, then again, many forget that fire hides under the earth. And the riddling, terribly clever kind of dragons arenāt really around anymore. The rare few that remain, however, always tend to be such book-wyrms.
Like the mudblood girlās, Tom Marvolo Riddleās naga heritage was well-hidden. First behind his handsome nonmagical fatherās face, then behind the mutations and corrupting magic of the Horcruxes.
He shouldnāt have tried to get rid of most of his āMugglenessā when he resurrected himself, if he had wanted to keep a human appearance. The faint scales of scales on his skin and slits of his eyes are entirely his own fault - the ancient naga blood wasnāt enough to create something less unnatural and ill-suited to exist. Voldemort was always cold, wherever he went.
āPurityā of magic and of witches and wizards, my friends, is such a laughable thing. āPure bloodā? Goodness gracious, what a joke.

cutting child porn from ao3 is not going to be a āslippery slopeā to full blown ācensorshipā, you guys are just pedophiles
There is no child porn on AO3. That is a false statement perpetuated by pro censorship groups in order to promote their repressive goals.Ā
Child pornography is pornographic material (images, videos etc) of actual children. That is why it is illegal to produce, transmit, or possess. Because it involves the sexual abuse, assault and exploitation of ACTUAL REAL CHILDREN.Ā
AO3 is a US website that abides by US law. US law prohibits any involvement whatsoever with child porngraphy - Ā possession, creation, transmission etc. If there was child pornography on AO3 not only would the website be taken down but everyone involved would be in prison. This has not happened because there is no child pornography on the site.Ā
There are some fictional stories on AO3 that include fictional sex scenes between fictional characters who are underage. But that is not child porgraphy and is legal. Just the way Game of Thrones has sex scenes involving underage characters but thatās legal because in real life the actors and actresses are all legal adults. It is legal because no actual children are harmed.Ā
Actual children are harmed though when pro censorship people pull stunts like trying to report AO3 to the FBI for child pornography. While these complaints did not result in any actions against AO3 because there was no child pornography it means that time that could have been used to investigate real claims about real child pornography that put real children in harms way was wasted. And that hurts children.
But these people donāt care about children. They donāt even care about banning fictional subject matter that depicts underage sex. If they did they would be campaigning equally hard against HBO for airing Game of Thrones and George RR Martin for writing A Song of Ice and Fire both of which include underage sex scene as well as other dark subject material like rape. What they really care about itĀ claiming the moral high ground to justify harassment campaigns and censorship of marginalized communities.Ā

Growing up Mormon AND with long hair that I didnāt cut because of pressure from my mom, to me the metaphor here is pretty obvious⦠you can read it how you want though.
