I learned recently that Elliot Page now only goes by he/him pronouns
And I felt it. I understood the pain.
If you're someone who uses multiple pronouns sets which include they/them, then I'm sure you understand the pain as well. You understand the subtle transphobia of people only calling you they. It's a way to sterilize you, to separate you from your gender, all while technically still using the correct pronouns. And it's exhausting.
I use any pronouns but she/her. I mainly use he/they/it but I am fine with any and all neopronouns. I have this stated in my carrd and I make this clear to people when they ask. And yet. I can understand the people who call me they because they don't know my pronouns, but there are so many people who do know my pronouns and refuse to use them. They/them is my second least favorite pronoun set to use and it's the only one people use for me.
So I'm going to do the same. I am no longer allowing people to address me with they/them pronouns.
Heâs right and he should say it.
I feel like itâs worth bringing up that in 2005, RTD introduced Captain Jack, a heroic, complex bisexual character in to his high profile revival of a beloved family show and had him kiss the male and female deuteragonists.
This was only 2 years after the repeal of Section 28 in England and Wales banning the âpromotion of homosexualityâ in 2003.
Heâs absoloutely right.
RTD also created the original UK Queer as Folk. And the recent Itâs A Sin, an incredible miniseries about what it was like in the queer community at the beginning of the AIDS epidemic.
And yeah, he was doing better bi/pan rep on the first season of the reboot of Britainâs most popular and iconic family program, with an actual kiss. In 2005.
Like imagine if Disney got Star Wars to reboot and then in the first movie of the reboot Finn kissed both Poe and Rey. Like. Thatâs what he did. Doctor Who is a hugely iconic property with a lot of intense fans whoâve been watching since 1963 and RTD was like âI want to do this. Iâm doing this.â
So heâs more than earned his right to be like âhey Disney shutthefuckupâ
asexuals are queer pass it on
aromantics are also queer, extra pass it on
"we need to stop the stigma towards drug users and addicts" and "we need to challenge the idea that being sober makes you boring" and "we need to stop acting like binge drinking to the extent you're doing medical damage is fun and normal for young people" are all ideas that can and should coexist.
just so weâre clear, the threshold for âbinge drinking to the extent youâre doing medical damageâ is waaaay lower than you think.
I work in an obstetrician and gynaecologistâs office. we have to tell patients on a regular basis that they are binge drinking weekly when they think they are simply consuming a normal amount of alcohol on the weekends.
having more than 3 drinks in a single sitting if you have an estrogen based endocrine system is a binge that is medically significant.
having more than 5 in a sitting is a medically significant binge for someone with a testosterone based endocrine system.
every time you do this, it significantly impacts your risk of getting breast cancer, and damages your liver. it takes time to recover from that liver damage. if youâre having a 3-5 or more drink binge on a weekly basis, you are an alcoholic, medically speaking, and your liver is not recovering.
again: the bar for what binge drinking is, medically, is so much lower than what you think it is.
alcohol is a really toxic substance and not something you should fuck around with.
again: if you have an estrogenized hormone system (common for most women), then 3 drinks is a binge. if you have a testosteronized hormone system (common for most men), then 5 drinks is a binge.
anything above that number, consumed as frequently as weekly or more, and youâre medically a binge drinking alcoholic.
also, if youâre drinking any quantity of alcohol 6 days a week or more, thatâs another threshold at which, medically speaking, you meet the definition of alcoholism. your liver needs more days without alcohol in your system than just one a week to recover and be healthy.
I donât say any of this to shame anyoneâto me, alcoholism or substance use disorders arenât a sign of weakness or moral failing. and most of us genuinely donât know this stuff.
ratherâI point this out because itâs important to reduce harm, and find ways to live healthier, happier lives. there is a life outside of constant binge drinking. itâs not always easy to find it. but itâs out there. you deserve a life where your emotional needs are met by something other than alcohol, and a life in which your liver is healthy, and the ways you cope and celebrate and find joy donât put you at increased risk of cancer.

I explained to some absolute idiot on discord that as a blind person I hate when people make their blog titles or their usernames a bunch of letters compiled from different languages. If you use the letter that looks like an A but in Greek is actually an s, the screen reader is going to read it with an s sound. So a blind person cannot tell what you have typed because it reads as garbled nonsense.
And they thought it was just the funniest joke to intentionally type like that to poke fun. Please reblog and spread awareness that typing like this is inaccessible
I've been trying to explain this to people for a while especially with the new Facebook algorithm that deletes comments with certain words. So people try to get creative with typing them instead of just using an asterisk for one letter in it.
There is this one person I follow who is autistic and started using that type of text in literally every word of every post while still tagging it with disability tags. And I'm like don't do this shit while excluding part of the disability community!
since the post of me encouraging people to get a shower chair reached so many people, I have another recommendation. please please please try mobility aids if you struggle with mobility or chronic pain. I know it is scary, believe me, I put it off for far too long myself. but they really are just tools to help you do more, with less pain, or with less risk of injury. and it doesnât hurt to just try! goodwill and hospice usually have used canes, walkers, and wheelchairs that you can get for relatively cheap if you donât want to spend the money on something brand new. you deserve to be comfortable. donât let anyone tell you that you arenât âbad enoughâ physically. if they help you, then use them!!!!! (plus, you can run over ableists toes, and thatâs just fun!)
Donât fall for the exclusionist bullshit. They WILL eventually find a target that you feel threatened enough by to consider their arguments, whether itâs ace/aro people, pan people, mspec lesbiansâŚetc. Consider whether that group is actually hurting you by existing and self defining or if youâve just been made to feel that way.
The exclusionist rabbit hole goes deep and for some flat out leads to TERFville at the end.
Radical inclusion and solidarity is where itâs at and if youâre still too stunted to see that then get well soon I guess.
Judging by the ask I just got, this post has officially reached exclusionist territory. And they are Not Happy.
So reblog to piss an exclusionist off.
Reblog to make the people targeted by exclusionists feel like they have allies

tumblr is a website where you can see posts like âgender roles are a social construct and theyâre not realâ and âthe stock market is just astrology for menâ followed by âhe is my boy girlfriendâ reblogged by the same person in a span of two minutes. like how do you not see the irony of it allÂ
OP itâs actually very simple. gender isnât real except for when itâs funny.

This deserves its own post:
The normal level of daily pain for an able-bodied person is ZERO, without needing to take pain medication, not even off-the-counter meds.
Not a little, definitely not enough to be "distracting but tolerable" with or without Tylenol. ZERO. (I'm shocked too every time I remember that the norm is to live pain free unless something happened to you, I know.)
If your baseline of unmedicated daily pain is above zero, you're dealing with chronic pain and you need to come to terms with that reality.
Babes, chronic pain is defined as pain that lasts over 3 months. That's it. Including pain that goes away but then inevitably returns. It doesn't have to be 100% persistent.
Stop scrutinizing and minimizing your own pain so much. It's not gonna help you OR the "actually" disabled/ill people you seem to think you'll offend by acknowledging your own suffering.
about if infrequent pain count: kinda depends on what you call infrequent (but also if you have to ask it probably isnât actually that infrequent)
if pain from the thing keeps happening over and over itâs likely chronic pain. gaps in the pain donât stop it from counting, if itâs a reoccurring problem for over 3 months itâs chronic.
also if painâs happening that much you might benefit from trying stuff out for chronic pain, since some treatments like taking a bunch of otc painkillers quite a bit could backfire on you (eg. NSAIDs can wreck your stomach in the right circumstances)

Some context for the destruction of that Aboriginal site:
When indigenous ppl complain that their sacred sites are being destroyed and they say stuff like "we have a cultural connection to this place" "if we can't come here it's like ripping off our roots" "we need this place to communicate with our ancestor spirits" etc., white australians are conditioned to handwave statements like that away with shit like "oh well they're just saying that, it's just a random tree, they'll get over it, obviously ancestor spirits aren't real, sacredness of trees isn't real", and that is total bullshit.
Aboriginal sacred sites are integral parts of highly sophisticated mnemonic techniques that have been proven to preserve information for (i know this sounds hard to believe but) at least ten thousand years (they accurately describe coastlines that are now underwater, or dry areas that have since been rainforests for 7000 years, or extinct megafauna etc.)
Physical features (either in one place, or along a track known as a songline) work as subheadings in an encyclopaedia. Ritualised teachings tell people what rituals or song cycles (like subheadings in an encyclopaedia) to associate with specific visual cues, and then those songs all contain stories that have (for example) systematised knowledge of every local animal and plant, contained in songs for easy memorisation. White anthropologists mostly handwave these techniques away as "animist beliefs" and "ancestor worship" but in reality it's this extremely sophisticated system of knowledge that's something like a cultural encyclopaedia, and that's why it's such a big deal when this fucking anglo settler state and its profiteers destroy these locations like it means nothing bc "oh it's just a tree" or "what it's a rock they'll just go to another rock"
In case you all need it said: this is cultural genocide.
Have you ever heard of the memory technique of having a giant house inside your head where you "store" bits of knowledge associated with household items in specific locations & to remember it you can mentally walk yourself to where it is and supposedly never forget anything again? Their physical walks are exactly that, and as the above states, wondrously accurate. Destroying the path and features destroys vital cues for priceless ancestral knowledge preserved for millennia.

Do you ever think about Doggerland?
Like how fucked up is it that itâs justâŚ.. gone.
I tend to forget about it and then when I remember it again Iâm like âOh yeah! Thereâs like an entire country sized stretch of land thatâs just fucking GONE.
wellâŚ. âgoneââŚ.
Things I have learned since making this post;
The running theory (I canât remember if it was definitive proof or not but I try not to make concrete statements on history any more) is that what caused the sinking of Doggerland was not the slow heating up of the Earth leading to a gradual melting of ice and snow causing the rise of the oceanâŚ.
What flooded Doggerland was a massive fucking CHUNK of Norway FELL INTO THE OCEAN and it caused the largest tsunami we have physical evidence for on earth and it fucking flooded Doggerland IN ONE SINGULAR DAY with a rush of water so strong, large and powerful it literally had the force to rip people to shreds when it hit them
Atlantis bois! We found it!
Itâs still there. Boats pull up mammoth tusks, bones and archaeological artifacts in fishing nets a lot.
I still cant get past that its called doggerland
*BANG BANG *
CAM ON DOGGERLAND
*BANG BANG*
KILL SOM FACKIN MAMMOTHS
*BANG BANG*
Okay but if the water splashed over the land because a big rock fell in the water then wouldnât it eventually just run back off and the land would be above water again? Or did this âmassive fucking chunkâ raise the entire world sea level by that much? Also how does a chunk of ground fall off? Fall off of what?
It fell off Norway.
I think you may not be envisioning how big âa fucking chunkâ would be to cause this
That illustrated area is the landslide deposit when it eventually evened out. Notice its size compared toâŚ. uhâŚ. the British islesâŚ. at the bottom there.
So thatâs what I meant by âa massive fucking chunkâ
Actually come to think of it, since apparently quite a few people werenât aware that Doggerland existed, here you go if youâre interested;
A lot of people on this hellsite are young, and are the target audience for this paid Tumblr+ horseshit. I, on the other hand, am a crusty old broad, and have been around the block many times.

Europe is currently being burned alive and people still think climate change is a joke. Itâs warmer in North Europe than in the middle eastern deserts.
Nearly all northern countries broke their decades old heat records this week.
Its only in the low hundreds in farenheit??? In America we get that for like a month or two straight every year??? Y'all need to deal is it really normally so cold over there that yall can live with a little heat???
If youâre gonna have an ignorant American attitude then please only stay on American posts. No one in North Europe has an AC in their houses. Stores, animal shelters, elderly houses, no one has AC. the houses are designed to keep the heat in. The people are not accustomed to the heat. A sudden climate shift like this is extremely dangerous to older people and babies specifically.
There are programs being run to inform elderly people what to do to not die in this heat. There was a heatwave in the Netherlands in 2010 in which approximately 500 more elderly people passed away than normally.
One thing people donât often appreciate is that the southern US states are along the same latitude as the Middle Eastern deserts, rather than northern Europe. Weâre not competing with Texas, weâre competing with northern Canada. If Saskatoon canât handle Mexican weather, London canât handle Middle-Eastern weather. Itâs not built for it at all.
very helpful and informative graphic
is this still happening or was it a one off?

#fjsdfs #when i studied in denmark #they spent an entire class showing us simple words and how similar they were across danish #norwegian #etc. for the express purpose of ragging on how different the finnish word was #the teacher literally said âwe can more or less understand across these languages. if you see one that sticks out like a sore thumb itâs finnish #also the delivery on this video is just delightful (via @destinyandcoins)
I find it hilarious that denmark has to stoop to ragging on the finns (instead of doing it for I guess shits and giggles like the others), because all the other nordic languages rag on them for sounding like theyâre mumbling with a mouth full of marbles. XD
Oh! Oh! Thatâs because Finnish is from a different language family! The Uralic languages!
:D
Yup! The roots of the majority of European and many nearby languages is Indo-Eropean, which is the root of everything from English to Russian to Hindi to Persian and more!
Finnish however, as you said, has its roots in a different branch than Indo-European, the Uralic languages. There arenât many of them - Finnish, Hungarian, and Estonian are the most widely spoken, but thereâs a handful of others as well, mostly spoken by local ethnic groups in northern Scandinavia and Siberia.
Poles and Lithuanians eying one another across the table xD
Every time I come across posts like these Iâm just reminded of the beautiful infographics made by Minna Sundberg
BTW the Finnish word lohikäärme does not come from the separate words lohi (salmon) and käärme (snake). According to current knowledge, this word comes from an old Swedish word floghdragi (flying snake). Finnish has loaned the word, left the first part untranslated but changed it a little to suite Finnish pronounciation better, and it just accidentally is the same word as salmon. The second part of the compound has been translated to käärme (snake).
So yeah, as funny as it is that it is a salmon snake, thatâs not really it.
ps. Finnish also has a similar word to the Swedish drake: traakki. It is not widely used but it appears in some plantsâ names for example.
Source: https://www.kielikello.fi/-/kysyvalle-vastataan (in Finnish)
Actually, I want to talk a little bit more about Finnish compounds since they are fun and very different from english ones so this might be interesting and quite educational for some of you!
Unlike in English, in Finnish compounds are very normal and widely used. I personally like this since it makes many words easier to understand âcause they are a lot more describing than their englsih counterparts. Let me give you some examples:
plane - lentokone (fluing machine)
concussion - aivotärähdys (brain jolt)
conspiracy - salaliitto (secrect alliance)
There are also some comppunds that Finns donât usualy even recognize as compounds (although they most certainly are).
garden - puutarha (tree enclosure/farm)⌠it was hard to find a translation for tarhaâŚ
world - maailma (land air)
Also in Finnish compunds are ALWAYS and I really mean always written together. This also gives the opportunity to make very usable new words.
You know that âGerman has a word for everythingâ meme? I am not 100% sure but I have understood that the German works in a similar way. Of course there is a word for âthe happy feeling you get when you eat cauliflowerâ because that can just be maybe up by compounding the keywords: kukkakaalinsyĂśnti-ilo (cauliflower eating happines).
Cauliflower is also a great compound! It literally means flower cabbage.
German does work in a similar way! In fact, the exact same way for some of the words you mentioned. We have:
plane - lentokone (flying machine) - Flugzeug (flying thing)
concussion - aivotärähdys - Gehirnerschßtterung (brain jolt)
cauliflower - kukkakaali - Blumenkohl (flower cabbage)
And also:
dictionary - sanakirja - WĂśrterbuch (word book)
railway - rautatie - Eisenbahn (iron way)
So yeah, we have a word for everything for this exact reason! And there are a lot of words you can just translate literally into finnish and itâs still a valid compound word, which is nice when youâre German and learning Finnish! Basically,
@jeza-red Iâm sorry but I donât get a joke and I feel bad because Iâm from Poland and I want to laugh XD
same (kinda). wonder if it has anything to do with being the same country at one point
