Not gonna lie this makes me a bit irritated. Here's the real version of this photo:
Instead of a cutesie reference to film censorship it was an explicit statement of defiance of Maryland's criminalization gay sex, which was not repealed until 2002. This wasn't a guy saying "Oh they can't put what I do in the movies according to a completely voluntary industry code" he was saying "The State of Maryland wants to put me in jail for being gay and having gay sex."
It wasn't a guy being cheeky about sex in an ambiguous, cute way. It was a man stating, in no uncertain terms, that a whole state of the United States considered him a criminal for being homosexual.
perhaps some will disagree, but i think the world got worse when we changed the colour of the night
this is what i mean
Via @bulbaderp
To be clear, THIS is how nights of the future should be lit
This is bat friendly street lighting, which not only looks sick as fuck but allows bats to pass through without disturbance, as they cannot see red.
orange and especially white lights deter bats and prevent them from reaching feeding grounds at nighttime. Please if you can, write to your local council and encourage red street lights!!!!
ALSO! red light doesnât fuck up human night vision much so you can go in and out of lit areas without readjusting
the red light not fucking up human night vision is also why a number of older cars had gauges that lit up red at night
i legit miss red lights in cars and appliances n stuff. red city lighting is goated
have yall heard about the 17lb cannibal cat named Baby Jesus
thats a big a boy
Iâm starting to think some of yâall havenât actually felt the rain on your skin⌠which is crazy because no one else can feel it for you

gay silence
Almost every player had a love-hate relationship with All Stars games. They were, essentially, a pick up hockey game with the best of the best - there was very little real competition and it was fun, for both the players and the fans. Still, it also meant work instead of a free weekend, which were rare commodities among players.Â
Ilya liked them more than most players. He didnât have a wife to whisk away to some tropical island for the weekend or kids to spend time with. All Stars provided an opportunity to see friends that had cycled through the Bears and get cheered on by sold-out stadiums.Â
Also, without fail, Hollander was at every All Star game. The Metros did not even send him as a Metro representative pick anymore because they were confident he would be one of the fan votes.Â
This year was shaping up to be a fun All Stars - Ilya was the Bears representative (obviously), with Marley and Connors both being fan votes. Hunter was sent by the Admirals, with Vaughn being another fan pick. Unfortunately, Hollanders âmotherâ, Pike, was sent by the Metros.Â
Ilya could never tell if Pike was particularly controlling of Hollander âI told Hayden I would be back by 11â or if Hollander just liked using him as an excuse. Either way, Pikeâs presence would limit his Hollander time, which he was not happy about. Plus, the only reason they sent Pike was because he was Hollanderâs left wing.Â
But, with All Stars came nonsense.Â
Like this.Â
âOkay,â the woman in front of their âmeeting roomâ pushed her glasses up. âHollander, Pike, Rozanov, Marleu, Hunter, Vaughn, and Connors, you all will be with our âSports Tradeâ Challenge. Rink C, please. Smith, Alkermann, Grant, Johnston, Letterman, and Siegel, you all are with the âAre You Smarter than a Timbitâ group. Rink A, please.âÂ
Ilya covered his mouth to hide his smile. He should not be getting giddy because he was paired with Hollanderâs group. He got his eye for just a second and wondered if he was feeling the same. Probably not. He was probably irritated about it.Â
Eventually, a man in a USA Skating vest led their group to Rink C, flipping through a clipboard as he explained the Sports Trade. âAlright, boys. Youâll be paired up with Bella Nastrova, Elena French, Victor Nikiforov, and Yuri Katsuki. They should be arriving in a few minutes and getting laced up. Weâve got figure skates in all your sizes - should be lined up by the benches. Let us know if they donât fit right. Tiffâs on cameras and sheâll let you know what weâre filming. Nothing crazy.âÂ
~*~*~*~
âOh my god, thereâs two of them,â Hunter groans, wiping a hand down his face. âI canât deal with two of them.âÂ
âI know the feeling,â Pike mutters next to him. âThis is weird, right?âÂ
âItâs not weird,â Hollander huffs. Always so huffy. âSkating is big in Russia and Japan.âÂ
Shane wanted to go back in time and take up tennis. They did not do things like this in tennis. Or maybe golf.Â
As soon as Victor Nikiforov stepped into the rink, he zeroed in on Ilya.Â
âĐŃивоŃ!â Hi!
âĐŃĐşŃда ŃŃ?â Where are you from?
âХанкŃ-ĐĐľŃĐľŃĐąŃŃĐł.â St. PetersburgÂ
âĐĐžŃква.â Moscow
âĐŃ ! ĐĐžŃОдŃкОК паŃонŃ, да?â Ah! A city boy, huh?
Youâre one to talk - St. Petersburg is hardly a village.Â
And Yuri zeroed in on him.Â
âHi,â Yuri said in English as he gave a little wave as Ilya and Victor spoke in rapid Russian. âIâm not a big hockey fan - not that I donât like it! Itâs great! Just, it's not often there's a Japanese player so⌠My sister - well, sheâs a friend, but basically like a sister, sheâs going to be so jealous about this, sheâs a huge fan.â
Usually mention of being one of the only Asian players set Shaneâs nerves on edge, but not this time. This was the kind of recognition that made it worth it.Â
âThanks,â Shane offered a smile. âI was in development camp with some of the Team USA skaters, so Iâve followed figure skating ever since - do you know Joe? He does singles, I think.âÂ
âOh yeah!â Yuri brightened. âHeâs awesome!â
Ilya laughed at something Victor said and clapped him hard on the back, making Victor stumble forward a step.Â
Yuri rolled his eyes. âDo you speak Japanese?âÂ
âA little bit, why?â He could get by, but he had been severely neglecting the language since he was a teenager.Â
âBecause theyâre going to be speaking a secret language all weekend and I want to speak one too.âÂ
âIs not a secret language, Yuri!â Victor called over his shoulder. âIs very easy language if you would actually study.âÂ
âI try,â Yuri complained. âIt's hard.âÂ
It really is. Shane thought and then - why was Yuri learning Russian?
âOkay everyone!â Tiff called them all over. âWeâve got seven hockey players and four figure skaters, so pair up!âÂ
Ilya immediately grabbed Victor and Victor did the same.Â
Yuri glanced at him a little hesitantly. âWant to pair up?âÂ
âYeah,â Shane said gratefully.Â
Marleu, Vaughn, and Connors fought over Elena, in the end letting an amused Elena pick. She picked Vaughn and Connors, much to Marleuâs outrage. Bella grabbed up Hunter and Hayden. Marleu begrudgingly joined Ilya and Victor.Â
The Sports Trade challenge was - to no oneâs surprise - a complete disaster. Shane, happily, was by far the best. Though, that was mostly because Yuri was actually coaching him and not trying to make him look stupid. Victor, to Ilyaâs smug pleasure, was the best of the figure skaters.Â
âDonât let him fool you,â Yuri said, scowling as he tried to push a puck into the net. âHe played hockey as a kid.âÂ
âYou have to hit the puck, Yuri.â Shane said for the hundredth time.Â
âIâm trying!âÂ
Yuri hit the top of the puck again and Shane almost tackled him.Â
âOkay,â Victor said from across the rink. âThis is easiest spin to learn. Babies do it.â
âOh my god,â Yuri looked over and Ilya tried to imitate Victorâs move. âHeâs going to kill him.â
Bella seemed to take great amusement watching her group try bunny hops and fall on their asses.Â
Elena spent most of the time demonstrating, but she did actually get Connors to do a two foot spin.Â
âThatâs great, guys,â Tiff said at one point, adjusting her camera. âI think we got it.âÂ
âThank god,â Yuri breathed, giving the hockey stick back to Shane. âThat was awful.âÂ
âIt was not that bad,â Victor said once he skated over.Â
âWe are going out tonight, boys!â Marleu declared once the group had all gathered at center ice and then glanced at Elena and Bella. âAnd girls!âÂ
Both Shane and Yuri cringed.Â
âEh, sounds fun,â Victor said. âBut Yuri and I need to get back to hotel.âÂ
âYou guys are rooming together?â Vaughn asked.Â
âI would hope so,â Victor said brightly, raising up his hand so his golden ring sparkled in the light. âSeeing as heâs my husband.âÂ
Seven pairs of wide eyes swung to Victor.Â
Yuri gave him a look that Shane interpreted as why the hell would you say that here?Â
Elena rolled her eyes. âYou guys didnât know they are married? Victor never shuts up about it.â
âWe have reservations,â Yuri wiped his hands on his pants.Â
âOh! No, thatâs cool!â Vaughn tried to break the tension. âLove is love, you know?âÂ
âRight,â Yuri smiled.Â
âYes,â Victor threw his arm over Yuriâs shoulders. âI won many championships when we both skated singles and Yuri here was my biggest fan.âÂ
âI was not!â Yuri flushed.Â
âAnd then I watched him skate my routine. Very beautiful, so I offered to be his coach so he could actually win competitions.â
âVictor,â Yuri warned.Â
âHow do you even go from rivals to coaching?â Connors asked.Â
âThat was easy. I asked him while I was naked in the bathhouse.âÂ
Shane choked and Pike patted him on the back. âYou okay, Shane?â
âFine,â Shane said tightly, glaring at Ilya, who was barely holding back a smirk. âSorry.âÂ
âAre you still his coach?â Hunter asked, thankfully diverting the attention from a red faced Shane.Â
âAh, no,â Victor said. âWe do pair skating now. Being rivals was fun, being a coach was fun, but competing with my husband is best.âÂ
âIt really is,â Yuri softened.Â
âThatâs great,â Hunter said, his voice a little sad.Â
âYeah, man,â Marleu agreed. âOkay, listen. "Reservationsâ tonight, but after the game tomorrow, we go out.âÂ
Victor said something to Yuri in Russian. Shane watched Ilyaâs lips tug up in a suppressed smile. Shane would be getting translations tonight.Â
âSure,â surprisingly, this was a much more comfortable Yuri. âThat sounds fun, actually.âÂ
âWe will celebrate Team Russiaâs win,â Victor said.Â
âYou mean Team Japanâs Win,â Yuri glared.
~*~*~*~
âAnd would you look at that! Weâve got figure skating legends Victor Nikiforov and Yuri Katsuki on the screen!â The announcers boomed over the speakers.
Victor and Yuri were waving from their box seats, turning around to show off the Hollander jersey Yuri wore and the Rozanov jersey Victor wore.Â
âLooks like weâve got some country competition, tonight folks! Who needs the Olympics when youâve got the All-Stars!â
~*~*~*~Â
âHey Marley?" Connors asked later that night when they were getting their gear together.Â
âWhat?âÂ
âYou donât think - I mean, did you noticeâŚ?âÂ
âConnors?â
âYeah?â
âShut the fuck up.â
âSorry.âÂ
âBut yeah,â Marley smiled. âFuckinâ beautician.â
The MHL decides to partner with Heartthrobs Against Heart Disease for their 2018 fundraising calendar. It's a Canadian non-profit that features various Heartthrobs in various states of undress at their various jobs. They had firefighter editions, teacher editions, and even farmer editions. The MHL sent out an email to a few dozen of Canadian players, asking if anyone had a free day over the summer.
Yuna Hollander does not hesitate to scoop that charitable opportunity up.
They get their 12 players, one for each month. Shane gets his birth month, May. The tagline on top of his photo is: "I may be a two-time Stanley Cup winner, but I still get checked regularly for early onset heart disease."
During the following preseason, Ilya walks in on the Bears howling with laughter about something. Never one to be left out, Ilya demands to know what's so funny. He's passed a Heartthrob Against Heart Disease 2018-2019 calendar and joins in on the laughter as he flips through these idiots. That is, until he gets to May.
Shane is on the ice, a hockey stick slotted across his broad shoulders, arms draped over it. He's shirtless, only wearing gloves and his baggy hockey pants, ridden down on one side to show off the top of his underwear and the deep V just above his hips. They must have had him do pushups because his abs are more defined than usual, deep cuts across his stomach shimmering with a thin layer of sweat. His hair was messed up, like someone had run their hands through it. He was looking directly at the camera, a little smirk on his face like he knew exactly what he was doing. His biceps...
The calendar was snatched from him, which was probably a good thing, if the saliva pooling in his mouth and the tightness of his pants were anything to go by.
That night, away from any prying eyes and on a private browser, Ilya navigates to the Heartthrobs Against Heart Disease website. He about blacks out when he sees the Special Edition: Oops, All Hollander!

How about you mind your own damn business
some people read an awful lot, but don't read very well. deep reading is itself a skill. being able to untangle the threads of theme, subtext, characterization, narrative style, and more are all things that it takes time and intentional engagement to learn.
if you've ever watched a movie with your film buff friend and chatted about it afterwards, that friend might have pulled hours more of conversation out of the same 90 minutes of screentime, and wondered how the fuck they did that - it's not raw intelligence, it's a skill that's been honed. And I learned a lot about film from talking to friends who knew about film, and reading critique by film scholars
literature works exactly the same. so if you want to get more out of your reading, there are things you can do to train that. Find a book or short story you think you've got a pretty good grasp on, preferably from a widely read & respected author like Ursula K Le Guin or Ray Bradbury (if you're new at this don't swing for the Toni Morrison or the Samuel Beckett yet unless you feel very comfortable with the complexity of the text - the point is to develop a complicated new skill on good foundations). Then go to JSTOR, create a free account, and look up criticism on the story you've chosen. Find something that looks readable to you and at least somewhat interesting. Read that article, and look at what that writer got out of the same story you've read that you didn't get. Do you see the critic's points? Did they teach you something about the text? Go reread that story and see if the criticism has changed how you read it. Are you seeing more? Are you thinking about the implications of a line that you hadn't noticed before? Does the story feel richer now?
there are other more involved ways of finding criticism. Learning to use academic databases, going to your local library to do interlibrary loans, finding critical voices you appreciate; these are all useful subskills. Literacy isn't just being able to read words, it's being able to read words in context and think about what they tell you about the text, the author, or the time and culture in which the text was produced. Literacy is the skill of being able to look at the world with open eyes and think clearly about how its parts are connected. It'll change your life

being in a big fandom is so funny because youâll see a post with 300 likes thatâs like âI am SO tired of seeing Garbles the Clown show up in fics! Itâs very transparently infantilizing to have Shane only be able to get off to Ilyaâs clown personaâ and now you have to confront the fact that somehow, despite reading fics everyday, youâve missed Garbles the Clown completely
The thing about Garbles is that Shane had never felt a flint of desire before laying eyes on him. He knows he likes sex with Rozanov the best, and over time he comes to care for Ilya, but thereâs always been something missing.
Then they get serious and Shane thinks it would be fun to let himself into Ilyaâs apartment as a surprise for the first time. Heâs met with a man in clown makeup and a wig, a big baggy overall with polka dots.
âWho are you?â Shane asks, barely able to contain the shaking heat in his voice. He already knows, it doesnât matter what the clown says. He knows this clown is what heâs been aching for his entire life.
âGarbles.â The clown says, but he sounds ashamed. âI didnât know you were coming⌠I can change.â
Shane panics as the clown turns to leave. âNo. Stay.â
every hollanov fic ive read totally ignores the existence the book svetlana in favor of show svetlana and i just think thats beautiful

The Australian Museum's most popular and longest running exhibit: skeleton man popping a wheelie on a skeleton horse, officially known as "the Bone Ranger".
Claimed to educate onlookers about Australia's colonial farming history, the horse has been on display in the museum since 1873. The human skeleton was added in 1983 and nobody knows where it came from.
