There was an novelization of the Civil War (by Stuart Moore, it is available on the Internet Archive) and here’s some spideytorch crumbs and also Johnny whump. It’s not a 1 to 1 adaptation, like most novelizations, like Sue witnessing Johnny being assaulted, Peter being single because this was written during the BND/Post-OMD era, Aunt May not knowing Peter’s Spider-Man until he’s literally about to tell the whole world etc. Peter also asks Ben how Johnny is doing which is more than what we got canonically 💔

I like to focus on the positive here but allow me this one particular gripe.
SPOILERS AHEAD for a ramble on Guardians of the Galaxy 2020 (Al Ewing).
Star Lord supposedly died during a mission he and Rocket weren't supposed to be on and Rocket ended up taking much of the blame for it. So it's a little surprising that he didn't really get any closure when Quill returned.
I know Richard Rider (Nova) is sort of the narrator of those issues and was working through his own feelings of guilt with a therapist. So it makes sense that he was the one who got to talk it out with Quill and emotionally process it. This run had so many characters and migrating plots, that there just wasn't time to address the fallout for everyone.
But still.
Rich wasn't actually there when it happened. He felt responsible on a grander scale, as it was partly a consequence of the Nova Core getting decimated in his absence.
It's implied that Rocket got drunk a lot after it happened but it's also played as a joke or cover up for shifting gears into a fun murder mystery (it is fun).
So Rocket kind of just, gets over it in the background. He's happy when Pete comes back, literally sniffs him out before anyone else notices, but they never talk it through.
He's just there, photobombing an emotional reunion.
Pete's return in the nick of time becomes a full circle moment for Rich who is able to redeem himself by helping to defeat Knull.
Rocket stays behind and chills to some tunes.
Rocket & Gamora never get a moment to patch things up either, as she's reasonably more angry with Quill when they reunite. But he was the focus of her anger in the interim.
Conflict like this is a little rarer and it was set up so well. I adore the above panels and the drama kept getting better.
But then it just stops when the main plot moves on. After the great section with Blackjack O'Hare and Gnawbarque, I guess they decided that was enough focus on Rocket. I see the reasoning but I'm not sure it worked.
Speaking of tunes (ages ago) I think of 'Friendly' by Blow Pop as a partial idea of him processing things before Pete came back. It's pretty blunt but it fits with the new found sense of self he had in this run. It's my way of interpreting what we get.
Ultimately it's better to imagine a few 'off panel' conversations happening. One of those slight disappointments we just have to fanfic our way through.
