I love that four different people on my feed scheduled this joyous person to reblog by 8am on June 1. I look forward to seeing this a dozen more times today.
My uncle was one of the top surgeons in the country. He was upper middle class definitely. When he got cancer, his insurance didn’t cover all the treatments he would need and after 5 years he drained his savings on cancer treatments (while still working most of that time) and eventually died because he couldn’t afford the expensive treatments that might have saved him.
If you are upper middle class and you get sick, it will likely bankrupt your family. It’s fucked.
Honest to god - even if you make 6 figures a year? you're closer to poverty than true wealth. Check your shit and remember who your real allies and enemies are guys.
A 6 figure income is a lot right?
That’s say: 223,000 dollars a year
Which is 112 dollars an hour.
Most people would consider that upper middle class. That’s enough money to have a nice house, go on fun vacations. That’s slight more than the average doctor makes.
223,000 dollars is what Jeff Bezo makes in a minute
There was a wonderful study done about 15 years ago I think, that shows that people cannot accurately identify their income bracket. Most people who own a home think they are upper middle class when in fact they are closer to the poverty line. Even people living well below poverty often identify as middle class. The wealth gap is even worse now. I wonder if anyone actually knows their financial standing.
I wish i could find this one article written in I believe the 90’s that went under the radar on abortion. The author said that the “life” arguments are basically useless on either side and what actually matters is that humans shouldn’t have a right to use other human bodies as a resource without consent no matter how alive or sentient they are, even if they’re on the brink of death you have the right to deny them access to you. It probably was too radical for pro-choice activists back in those days but like…that’s the most robust arguement lol so we need 2 being that back and dead the pontifications and splitting hairs about “life” in my honest onion

- You cannot be judge, jury and executioner because the division of powers was created for a reason; to remain impartial and try to keep corruption to a minimum.
- Every single living person has human rights. Including the most evil people you could ever meet. Those people have a right to live, to get healthcare, to eat and to have a job. YES, even evil people.
I've seen a lot of people talk about abolishing prison, because it's the cool, new hip thing that everyone is talking about. And instead of understand what it means, they think it's the liberation of wrongfully imprisoned minorities - which it is. But also:
Prison abolition means setting up a system of psychological and physical help for the people whom are deemed dangerous to society. Yes, that includes Evil Fucking People. Recovery and rehabilitation should be the goal, not incarceration. THAT is abolishing prison.
Of course I want that abusive piece of shit father who abused his children to die. I want him dead! DEAD. But it does not mean that that's what I want as an official law, because as much as I'd love to see him dead, the betterment of society and the rehabilitation and development of a human fucking being is important.
The benefits to prison abolition are ENDLESS. But it is also a struggle, and y'all can't keep going through life with a 5 year old's justice mentality. I swear, fandom has rotted your fucking brains off, because we NEED ACTIVISTS. We NEED TO KNOW WHY WE WANT WHAT WE WANT, AND WHAT IT ENTAILS.
You believe in something? Look up the activists who are doing work there. Read up on it. Look up videos. Follow them on their social media. Work in your communities, if you've the opportunity.
And stop being so fucking stupid about abolishing human rights. You're doing the work for the far right when you call on all pedophiles to be executed on sight. Not even twenty years ago, gay people were mostly thought of as PEDOPHILES.
“I really want that fucker to suffer, but I don’t want a society run by my worst impulses” is a really important moral principle that more people need to learn.
I reblogged this last month, tagged it, and said “might as well see if it works.” I used this video as a reference to find all the forms that i needed (which is A LOT, especially if you’re a dependent) and sent them through the mail, not really allowing myself to hope.
dude.
$2,714 of medical debt from my top surgery - gone. im shaking this was such a weight on me for 2 years and it fucking worked. what the fuck.
This is one of the rare occasions when “cis men too!” is a good addition, and you’re so right! That did occur to me when I made this post and I’m glad you pointed it out

I was definitely a profit killer when I worked in a pharmacy (which honestly was my favorite job in the entire world, but it was short-lived and nowadays you can’t work at a pharmacy like that, it’s all tied in with corporate retail and no one should ever trust me with a cash register ever). It was not, however, actually a profit killer for the pharmacy, just for the drug companies, so no one cared. These days I do medical billing, which means I actually bill OUT from hospitals so I’m mostly spending my professional time taking money away from insurance companies.
I will now impart all of my profit killing resources onto you, in case you don’t know them. I think most of you know them, now. But just in case you don’t.
THIS IS US-CENTRIC. I’M SORRY.
1. GoodRx - this thing has an app now, so you can look up the best places to get your expensive medicines at the lowest possible prices without insurance on the go, and you no longer have to print coupons because you can just hand over your phone or tablet. Times have changed for the better with GoodRx. Definitely use it before trying to fill your scrip, because it will tell you the best place to go. (You can do that on the website, too.)
2. NeedyMeds - Needymeds is basically the clearinghouse of drug payment assistance. They have their own discount cards, but also connections to many patient assistance programs run by drug companies themselves. They are good assistance programs, too.
3. Ask your county - This is not a link. This is a pro tip. Most county social services will have pharmacy discount programs for people with no and/or shitty pharmaceutical coverage. You can often just find them hanging around at social services offices; you can just pick one up and walk off with it.
4. Ordering online - There are a few safe online pharmacies. I keep a little database in a text file on my computer. Most of them are courtesy of CFS forums, my mother or voidbat, so a lot of that is a hat tip to other people, but if you’re in need of a place to get a drug without a prescription … first I’ll make sure you 100% know what you’re doing for safety reasons and then I’m happy to turn over a link.
5. Healthfinder - A government resource that helps find patient assistance programs in your area. This might also point out the convenient county card thing. RxHope is something a lot of people get pointed to via Healthfinder that’s a good program.
6. Mental Health America - Keeps a list of their best PAPs for psychiatric medications, which can be some of the most expensive and a lot of pharmacy plans don’t cover them at all.
Good Rx Saved my family a hundred dollars a month while I was getting signed up for CHIP
seriously it’s a life savor especially for ridiculously expensive drugs like abilify
Also! Some drug companies have patient assistance programs where they send you the drug for FREE if you are uninsured, or if your insurance doesn’t cover that drug.
Do a Google search for “patient assistant programs” + (your med), or search the manufacturers website. Sometimes the info is online; other times you have to call.
Even some of the big name pharma companies have this. It’s certainly not all companies, or all meds, but it is worth a shot.
Before Obamacare, I lost insurance and couldn’t pay for my mood stabilizers (kiiiiinda important to have those when you’re bipolar.) I was on generic Lamictal, but I went to the official Lamictal website, filled out a form with a valid prescription, and they mailed my meds to me every month for free.
If you know anything about bipolar disease, you know that that was a literal life saver. Patient assistance programs ftw!
This is so important given the recent vote to repeal Obamacare. And the cartoon above is so on point They’re literally voting to kill people. Literally.
Some of my meds are no longer going to be partially covered by my ridiculously expensive private insurance. I just used the GoodRX website to look it up, and I can either spend $40 at Target to pay for one of them out of pocket–per month–, or I can get it at Sams Club for $4. No that is not a typo. The drug I need to take every single day to keep my allergies from spiraling out of control (yay auto-immune bullshit) is literally ten times cheaper at Sams Club. Holy shit.
I was also a profit killer at CVS, until they banned the employees from providing any discount codes and threw away all of our discount cards and then told us that all we were allowed to do was to tell customers that they could look for their own. ☺️
They were especially adamant about enforcing this new policy at my store which was: (1) the only 24hr pharmacy within 20 miles (2) geographically right between 2 popular ERs (3) criminally understaffed (4) at the center of a notoriously Portuguese city and (5) had minimal, if any, translators to communicate to the populace that they could find discount cards.
CVS is also well known on the above mentioned apps for being the most expensive place to buy uninsured medicine.
So, like, my friend had to ask me if hpv is transmitable through saliva (it’s not) and she had a ton of other questions about hpv and like here I am, 2 years younger than her, answering these damn health questions that should have been covered in sex Ed. And the only reason I know any of this is cause I’m close with someone with hpv.
testosterone is not a violent, aggressive, or evil hormone. and the more you people keep demonizing its effects, the more young trans people are going to steer clear of it because they believe it is going to make them disgusting or ugly. yes im talking about sweat and body hair and acne and bottom growth which are all normal healthy things that come with going on T and they need to stop being called "negative effects". if YOU personally dont want them, fine. dont go on testosterone! but stop spreading this same harmful bullshit that makes trans youth fear transitioning when they otherwise look forward to it.
hope it’s ok to use ur tags to elaborate on this but YES. the demonization of testosterone and “”male traits”” is equally, if not more harmful to trans women. viewing penises as weapons, masculine traits as predatory, etc. is all rooted in transmisogyny. what hurts one of us hurts all of us
[Image ID one: tags from an unknown tumblr user, reading "also, stop making us trans girls feel bad for every part of our biology, please, lol, thanks." end ID one.] [Image ID two: The anarchist cat, a black cat hissing with it's haunches raised, over the trans pride flag. Around the cat is a black circle, which haas all caps white text reading, "An injury to one is an injury to all." End ID two.]
They've been hinting for months that they want Obergefell v. Hodges gone, and here are the latest bleak clues.
This blog told you in December that the 6-3 Supreme Court will overturn Roe v. Wade, and the only thing unclear about that is whether it will happen this June or in next year’s term. Now we are here to tell you that after Roe is gone, the next target increasingly appears to be Obergefell v. Hodges, the 2015 case that legalized marriage equality. Republicans have been hinting for months that they want Obergefell gone, and here are the latest bleak clues.
Most recently, Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said that the high court wrongfully invented the right to same sex marriage. He made this point not once but four times during the Supreme Court confirmation process of now-Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson—during both of his questioning periods, once during committee votes, and once more on the Senate floor. This man isn’t even facing a Senate primary until 2026, and he still felt the need to make his homophobic views very clear.
Then there’s Tennessee lawmakers introducing a pair of bills last week to establish a new class of marriage between only a man and a woman. The lawmakers “forgot” to add an age of consent for this type of marriage, opening the door to child marriages, which is very funny for a party obsessed with calling its opponents pedophiles. The bill’s Republican sponsor told a local news site that the bill gives “an alternative form of marriage for those pastors and other individuals who have a conscientious objection to the current pathway to marriage in our law.” This is an admission that they’re trying to get around binding Supreme Court precedent. (Alabama did a different trick in 2019 to appease homophobic judges who didn’t want to issue marriage licenses—the legislature simply replaced the licenses with marriage certificates that the couple fills out.)
The effort to take down Roe is also connected to dismantling gay marriage in a few ways. First, the evil genius behind the bounty-hunter portion of Texas’ six-week abortion ban, Jonathan Mitchell, espouses a fringe legal theory that the Supreme Court doesn’t erase laws it decides are unconstitutional, it just leaves them dormant. States would have to repeal their laws to really make them go away.
Building off that argument, another Texas Republican wrote to the state Attorney General in October that Texas never repealed its ban on gay marriage, and is asking the AG whether this allows private citizens not to recognize same-sex marriages. After seeing this letter from the Texas state rep., one of the lawyers who helped win the Obergefell case said he now believed that same-sex couples should indeed be worried about their marriages.
And Mitchell himself wrote in a brief to the Supreme Court that both marriage equality and sex with a same-sex partner (Lawrence v. Texas, 2003) are court-invented rights that are “just as lawless as Roe” and invited the court to overturn them all. So there’s that!
As Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel explained to Jezebel, overturning Roe would weaken cases like Lawrence, Obergefell, Loving v. Virginia (which legalized interracial marriage), and even Griswold v. Connecticut, the 1965 ruling that allowed married couples to use birth control. That’s because all of these cases are based on a right to privacy first found in Griswold and the precedents build on each other. Each case is like a Jenga block, and removing one could make the whole tower topple.
We don’t know exactly when or how Obergefell will be challenged, but the assault is starting, and it’s obvious. The Supreme Court has already accepted a case about anti-discrimination laws for next term which could rip a giant hole in protections for gay couples. It’s the case of a web site designer who wants to be able to post on her site that she refuses same-sex couples as clients, in defiance of a Colorado law. She claims the law violates her First Amendment right to free speech. In even accepting the case, the court has signaled that the chipping away has already begun.

Since the “Don’t Say Gay” bill was passed today, I think it’s time for some Malicious Compliance. From what I might wrongfully understand, this bill is vague enough that heterosexual topics can be reported as well. If no one is punished for heterosexual talk, but are punished for talking about queer things, then that sets up a discrimination lawsuit.
Bc i keep saying people going “they don’t specifically say LGBTQIA+ in the bill” of course they don’t. They’ve never had to. Being LGBTQIA+ is considered in a lot of places an adult and sexual thing, even though it’s extremely common for LGBTQIA+ people to have questioned their sexuality or gender at young ages.
There doesn’t seem to be anything to stop this in the bill which is a huge red flag.
But because they don’t specifically say queer, that’s where the room lies to report anything cishet too.
And think about it. They didn’t specify queer. Why? Because that already would set up a discrimination lawsuit. So they tried to go around it. But their way of going around it made it so vague, hell could break lose with so many reports being made about cishet discussions that people are going to get pissed and they will have to remove the law. Or it could get overturned due to discrimination because if cishet reported things don’t get punished, but queer things do…
It actually is astounding to me that inorder to work around “claims” of discrimination, they created another way it could be taken down.
This is absolutely going to get fought. And it will get proven this is unlawful.
