'middle age' is typically considered to be between 45-65

it is extremely common to switch careers, start new relationships, emigrate, go to college for the first or second time, or make other life-changing decisions in middle age

it's wild that I even have to spell it out, but older adults (60+) still have social lives and hobbies and interests.

you can still date when you get old. you can still fuck. you can still learn new skills, be fashionable, be competitive. you can still gossip, you can still travel, you can still read. you can still transition. you can still come out.

young doesn't mean peaked. you're inexperienced in your 20s! you're still learning and practicing! you're developing social skills and muscle memory that will last decades!

there are a million things to do in the world, and they don't vanish overnight because an imaginary number gets too big

Something that I first applied to working with children, and have applied in a limited form to working with adults: you don't need to tell someone when they read your instructions wrong. Sometimes it's enough to point out what they did right and then whatever they didn't do? You ask them to do it in more precise words, and you make it sound like it's a new request. Remarkable how fast things get done this way.

This is also a habit I built up from emergency response training. If I say "I need you to bring me a first aid kit and an accident report" and you bring me just a first aid kit, it's so much more efficient to say "thanks now can you bring me an accident report" than "I asked you to bring an accident report why didn't you bring me one".

Once you've internalized "a person bleeding out is one of the worst times to start an argument" you start to wonder what other tasks could get accomplished without arguing

I am a huge fan of this method.

Another thing I like to do is always assume positive intent from the other person.

If they really did have positive/neutral intent, it's way more effective than escalating. It also creates a positive feedback loop that demonstrates to me that my reality is filtered through my perception, but my perception isn't always accurate and sometimes it's me making myself feel worse for no reason. Sometimes I end up ascribing all sorts of assumptions to a simple question, that were entirely my own feelings and not the other person's.

And if they really were trying to be rude, they look really stupid when I'm nice/professional. I've had more than one person apologize because they came in hot and I simply did not match that energy.

And even if they don't care, I feel better about the situation. It's just as important that I don't escalate my own body, because it's much easier to move on when the situation is over, versus getting all worked up about it and then having to calm down.

Theres a "ninth planet" out towards the Kupier belt that we cant find but we know its mass based on the effects it has on the other planets and bodies in the area. One of the theories on why we couldnt find the damn thing was that it was a black hole the size of a grapefruit which is the funniest semi-serious suggestion ive heard in a scientific forum in a long time.
