And I go, “No, but my fucking dad has!” And I whip out my picture of him crouched by a gay penguin couple in Antarctica where he studied them for a few months

Gender and sexuality is a spectrum. Some labels are broad and many fit in this category. Some people are happy with this.

Some people may feel better when given a specific label. It makes them feel more understood.

Some people can't find any name for where they fall, and make their own label.

Some people look for labels that fit them perfectly. Some believe that they'll feel so at home once they find that.

Maybe you're one of those some people. Maybe you can't find a label you truly relate to.

Maybe you've been stumbling through labels and labels and labels, unable to find a perfect label.

Hold tight. You can do it. And if you can't find a label that you feel right with, then remember that it's a spectrum. Not all sexualities and genders are named. They may be under a broader umbrella, but if you don't feel happy with that broad label, you may be out of luck. After all, as specific as a label is, there's still very slight differences between the others.

But that doesn't make where you land any less valid. You don't need labels. You can just be (gender)queer.

If you think that you’re ace, I don’t think liking nsfw fanfiction should somehow “count against that” or make you “less ace”. After all, some aces enjoy sex or sexual content in media, be that as a general rule or only in specific circumstances.

If you’re curious, one possible explanation for why you can enjoy fiction but be uncomfortable with movies or comics has to do with the presence (or lack thereof) of distance and control. When it comes to fanfiction, there are rarely pictures, which means that you don’t have to visually see things in the same way you might in a visual medium like movies or comics. Additionally, you have the option of skipping ahead, pausing, rushing through a section, and generally just controlling the pace with which you read, whereas movies have one intended viewing speed that you can’t really change. 

I know for a fact I’m romantically attracted to men (as I am currently in love with a man).

I’ve never found a strong romantic connection with a woman but??? The idea of kissing women???? The idea of holding women and laughing at dumb movies with them?????? The idea of playing with women’s hair and loving them and giving them flowers and forehead kisses??????????? Yes.

Happy first of Pride Month! I’m a little sad as my country doesn’t really have Pride festivals or parades in June (we have them primarily in February) but I still like to get in the spirit of Pride in June as well :)
