Sometimes when beloved wife @nunc-pro-tunc is at the office working on her caseload (which is really several people's caseloads dumped onto one person but that's a different conversation) til 3 AM I call her to hang out.
Me: I have been thinking. I proffer the idea that some people need opps because, whether they realize it or not, they define themselves by conflict and hero/villain narratives. It allows them a moral high ground, which further bolsters their sense of self. They seek conflict because they feel most like themselves when they have someone to funnel their rage toward than when they don't. Wife: I think that's just schadenfruede, actually
