I think my bad people are only surprised by rapists, racists and genociders… so yeah I think you do have a different limit 😭

I think bad comes in different levels. Someone can be a bad person and not reach those levels. I would say a few of my wwc are bad people simply because their abuse isn’t physical. Dante is basically every bad thing under the sun except a rapist. And OYHS has rapists but they aren’t major characters (except one but he’s a studio exec)

I'm especially curious about how you come up with your plot and manage to write everything in such a structured way. I have a few small ideas, but they don't feel like enough to turn into bigger projects like yours. Do you have any advice on how to write a story that flows from beginning to end instead of just having a bunch of disconnected ideas?

Or, more generally, what would your biggest pieces of advice be for someone who's trying to write a story from scratch?

Hmm the thing is some ideas just can’t give you more, no matter how hard you squeeze them, the juice won’t come

The way I go about it is entirely dependent on the genre. I look at the common storylines of said genre and see if they could fit within my story. I tend to take these storylines as a base to then make it my own instead of a 1 on 1 recreation. It’s especially helpful if your genre has a lot of real life inspiration.

OYHS for instance, so much of what I’m reading are events that seem so fantastical so great and I’m adding them to the story (for example there’s a scene that’s going to take place in the ambassador hotel at the end of chapter 2 that’s directly taken from a book I’m reading). There’s no shame in taking inspiration from real life events. Writers have been doing it for all time. Everyone is inspired by everyone else

Also it helps if you have a beginning in mind and an ending because then you can brainstorm what needs to happen to get to that ending. I find as you begin brainstorming those disconnected ideas you had somehow show up and you can see where they fit in between the beginning and end

Like I have an idea for a slice of life game and I had trouble finding a plot because for some reason I can make up plots on the spot for every genre except that one. So I mixed two ideas. Sometimes two things you seem different can actually be mushed together with some tweaking

A little jealously is fine but it goes overboard and luce starts offending people, he doesn’t like it at all

Where did you get the idea that OYHS is going to be 30 chapters?

Because like, even if she does end up being attracted to Luce, she really doesn't strike me as the sort to love someone who deliberately hurts her. Except her father, I guess.

Alls fair in love and war. It’s not like carmen thinks luce is unreasonable for wanting to ruin her family. It’s actually rather fun in her eyes to see Luce try

Also Carmen has a rebellious streak (asking for the deal even though it lowkey goes against her fathers wishes)

I think she finds the potential challenge that Luce provides fun amidst all the boredom. Luce shakes things up and her father will need carmen more than ever now that it’s war so it’s just another plus
