Absolutely loved the OYHS demo, Mallory is my fav side character youāve ever created and I really hope you wake her up so I can shove my Oscar in her face lol. I had a few questions about her if itās not spoiler territory.
1) What is her motivation for not wanting Sky to pursue a a career in acting, I donāt understand the āyouāll never be as good as meā logic ? Is that something she truly believes or is she somehow genuinely threatened that Sky would overshadow her legacy in the future ?
2) When she says how proud she is of Sky becoming a doctor or lawyer is she actually proud or is that just a way to incentivise them to pursue other career paths.
3) Does she feel guilty about neglecting her child ? Is she self aware ? Does she miss Sky or think about them or is it an āout of sight-out of mindā situation. When franky says she loved Sky more than anyone else in the world is it BS or is there some grain of truth in that

Q1. Well from Mallory's perspective it seems like Sky is doing this to be rebellious (+ also doing it just because their mom does it) instead of it being a passion. Since she doesn't know Sky that much that's her only explanation. She's never seen her child act either, and Mal has a high opinion about her own acting. But also, I'm not being hyperbolic when I say Mal was very much stunted at the age she gave birth. A 12 year old sometimes says things that are hurtful that they don't entirely mean

Like Mallory isn't an intentionally manipulative malicious person who seeks to lie to her kid š (come to think of it I don't think she's ever lied to them, she's made promises she's broken but at the time she gives them, she honestly thinks she can fulfill them); she's literally what you see. Mal is proud of Sky for getting an education that she never got, she mentions this in an off-hand way in the game. It's a sore spot for her that's she uneducated. She did make sure to send Sky to a very good school. Historically apart from sex work, or the convent, education was a tool of freedom for women
Q3. So this has a lot to do with how parenting was viewed in the eyes of the older generations. The idea that you need to provide emotional care to your kid is relatively new. A concept pretty much created in the latter half of the 20th century. Back then, if you gave your kid food and a roof then you were a pretty good parent. That other stuff wasn't even a thought. She believes she did her duty as a parent. It's how her parents raised her and how she sees her peers raise theirs. Of course, Mal is special in that she is very emotional and affectionate she just doesn't know how to handle a child she doesn't know. She does think about them quite a bit actually.
Second to her career, they are the thing she most thinks about (which parenting-wise is the problem). What Franky says isn't bullshit, he has his own issues with enabling Mal's most worst traits but he isn't always so biased. Mallory doesn't love a lot of people. She has no blood relatives left, she has no person she's romantically in love with right now. She gave birth to a kid and kept it in a time and place where it would've been better for her if she had an abortion or gave it up for adoption. You don't do that with a child you don't love a lot. She could've left her kid to live with her parents and washed her hands of them. Mal's problems never stemmed from lack of love towards her kid it's just that how can a child successfully raise a child?
Q4. hahaha. It would be interesting wouldn't it? There's a lot about her life that's unknown not only after Sky's birth but also before. Where did she come from? How did she get to Los Angeles? How did she meet Sky's dad?
