Overthinking Perhaps?
I have a god-given talent for alienating the hell out of people, it seems, so sometimes it feels like the whole world doesn’t give the slightest damn about me. Well, except for this one person who cares a bit too much. I had him take the Briggs-Meyers personality test. He got ESTJ but didn’t feel right about some of the questions. He retook it and got ESFJ. The ironic thing is, despite this over interest, I don’t trust him. Here’s why.
When we’d hang out, he’d bring up old drama about what people were saying behind my back. I was very interested because some of it was new information. When he’d related some of the things, he’d get this smirk, like he was amused by the memories. -As if he were right along with the other people back biting. When I’d ask for names, he’d only give me names of people no longer around. Sometimes he’d throw out a comment to start drama, like, “It’s funny those people said something nice yesterday when they were the same people who (this and that).” I’d reply, “WERE THEY?!” -To which he’d say, “I don’t know...” He had this attitude like he was desperate to be everybody’s friend and that his loyalty to the crowd was important than loyalty to me. I was very put out by this idea, as he was with me at the time. I was giving him my valuable time and expected that to mean something.
I want to be everybody’s friend too. I’d like to think that I give people the benefit of the doubt and withhold judgement when they make mistakes. Sometimes, however, I’ll meet a person who is so completely useless and they’ll prove their uselessness over and over so that it wears me down. I’ll finally give up and say, “I just can’t....fuck this person.” That’s why I’m looking for a partner in scheming. Just like how people who are interested in other people make an effort to get into the stuff they’re interested in, like cooking, baseball, etc., I’m also looking for someone willing to make an effort to empathize with me and act like my well-being is a little more important than everybody elses. I’d do the same for them. Should this go without saying or what?
