English isn't my first language so maybe i misunderstood your post. What you describe with closing one eye to read isn't normal but the image jumping when you switch eyes by closing them definetly is. It's one way we create depth vision - the reason the jump happens is that we require both eyes for binocular horizontal disparity. Each eye has a slightly different angle und thus sees a bit different. The example used to teach this is usually looking at your thump and then closing each eye because it illistrates the jump in vision quite nicely though we usually don't notice in everyday life. What should happen however when you have both eyes open that both pictures integrate into one.
Actually the jumping is NOT normal. What is normal is the image shifting perspective. A slight switch of the angle, like you said. But the jump indicates binocular vision dysfunction, specifically convergence excess. Many people think the jump is normal because it’s normal to them. But it actually means your eyes are having to work too hard and it’s not going smoothly lol. Please watch this video for more clarity:
This is for the people who see a list of diagnoses like mine and think, "Wow, that person must be a great actress. She's clearly done research and faked the symptoms to trick doctors into thinking she has all those illnesses."
That's not how it works. You can't fake test results.
It went more like this: I say I feel bad. Doctors run a lot of tests. They put me in big machines, stick me with needles, and make me drink weird shit. Then they make me have a surgery, take pills, or wear glasses with prisms.
Age 7: What's wrong with me?
Doctors: Your urine goes backwards due to kidney reflux disease. You need surgery.
Age 10: What's wrong with me?
Doctors: You have migraines. You may grow out of them or have them your whole life. Take pills.
Early 20s: What's wrong with me?
Doctors: You're getting kidney infections. Your surgery makes you more susceptible. You'll probably always get them. Have some antibiotics.
Early 30s: What's wrong with me?
Doctors: You have low vitamin D. Take pills.
Mid 30s: What's wrong with me?
Doctors, after reproductive imaging and neurological testing including a brain MRI: You have fibromyalgia, PTSD, OCD, & social anxiety. Take pills.
Late 30s: What's wrong with me?
Doctors, after an endoscopy, a heart ultrasound & Holter monitor, etc: You have GERD, low magnesium, and low potassium. Pills.
Age 40: What's wrong with me?
Doctors, after an ultrasound and bloodwork: You have a little dysautonomia and reactive hypoglycemia. It's from Hashimoto's. And you're probably perimenopausal, but we have to do more bloodwork to be sure. Another pill.
A few months later...
Me: What's wrong with me now?
Doctors, after a CT scan, a HIDA, another endoscopy, and a colonoscopy: You have NAFLD. And a kidney stone. And severe GERD. And chronic gastritis. And probably gastroparesis, but we have to do a gastric emptying study for that. More pills.
A few months later...
Me: Why do I have double vision?
A paramedic: IDK but you should really get evaluated for autism.
Doctors: You have BVD from 4th Cranial Nerve Palsy and you should go back to the neurologist. Here are some glasses with prism lenses.
Also me: I'm chronically ill and have multiple disabilities.
Some stranger: You don't look sick. You're too young to be unhealthy. You're not disabled. You just don't want to work
Okay, buddy. Why don't you and your ghost twin apparate the fuck up outta here before I beat you both with my floral cane?
Bro it’s something else having a genz fucking optometrist that’s like my age. Like why are we so fucking casual I’m crying
Him: so your prescription is pretty much the same, but your prisms got upped… yikes
Me: oh yay! So my like normal prescription didn’t change? Just the prisms?
Him: nah you’re a little bit more blind
Me: oh lol
Him: …
Me: …
Him: clock it!
Just laying in bed crying a bit as I look up Binocular Vision Dysfunction
I've been dealing with a myriad of mental and physical health issues since I was in HS. I pretty much just woke up one day and felt like my quality of life was cranked way tf down. Tinnitus, visual snow, light sensitivity, brain fog, trouble focusing visually, balance problems, some vertigo, ocular migraines, worsening headaches-- all of it kind of hit me at once and I never really got it all looked at for years.
Cause I tried to tell my parents about it and got brushed off, and instead of pushing to have it looked into I instead internalized it into Horrible Anxiety. Didn't even wanna Google my symptoms for years cause I convinced myself if I ignored it I'd somehow be okay
Which did not go well. And I still feel like shit to this day, and have been trying to catch up on Looking Into Health Bullshit for awhile now. Slowly.
But anyway, I've come to realize that I think a lot of my health issues are related to my fucking jaw. My jaw's right condyle is deformed and it's given me pain and stiffness for years, and I've known it was deformed for years now, but it just didn't occur to me that the jaw would be the reason my vision started fucking up so bad.
And now I look more into it, and it's just like "oh yeah, having a shit jaw with tensed facial muscles 24/7 can in fact fuck up the nerves and muscles associated with your eyes in a way that affects your binocular vision."
Reading a list of symptoms of BVD is just like reading my day to day bullshit.
I'm literally going to the doc tomorrow to get a referral for a TMJ specialist, and I'm gonna ask them about eye bullshit too while I'm at it. Cause just god fucking damn it.
I really wish that HS me had taken the jaw bullshit more seriously and CONSIDERED that the other symptoms could be related.

As a strabismic figuring out how to get her eyes to work together in her 40s… I think a lot of people don’t realise you’ve got little muscles that rotate your eyes.
And normally those muscles are nicely synchronised. Your eyes rotate together. If they aren’t, you get two images that are rotated relative to each other. This can be very annoying.
Mine are… intermittently synchronised. And apparently this is something at least partially / sometimes under my control. It’s particularly unpleasant with text. Imagine you have two images of the same line of text, and they’re subjectively in the same place… but the one from your left eye is rotated about 15 degrees clockwise relative to the image from your right eye. What you’re seeing is more like a flattened “x” than a horizontal line.
I haven’t seen anyone else mention this shit. Material on figuring out binocular vision as an adult is thin on the ground as it is, but rotation issues are really flying under the radar.
Also I’m wondering if this plays a role in dyslexia. ‘Cause, yeah, it can make reading very visually confusing. And how often is anyone even checking kids who have trouble reading for cyclotropia?
I just want to see something
I am hypermobile and have visual snow
I am hypermobile and do NOT have visual snow
I am NOT hypermobile and have visual snow
I am NOT hypermobile and do NOT have visual snow
There comes a point in your autism diagnosis and discovery where everything just pisses you off
because what do you mean my vision disorder is related to asd? Fuck off
