This is what I call generational trauma. 😭
Gen Z (and I'm speaking as a part member of it myself) inherited all of the worst traits of each Generation that came before them:
Boomer - Anti-Intellectualism and Moral OCD
Gen X - Lack of Self Awareness
Millennial - Egocentrism (but they at least counterbalance it with an actual spirit to improve the world for the better away from Boomers and Gen X)
Instead, what we got is a group of people that recreating Satanic Panic but without religion to back it up, stirring Moral Panic on feelings alone without knowledge about stuff they are talking about, and in general undoing years of progressive change Millennials fight so much to implement, and in worse scenarios actively distorts the The Good aspects and ideas of generations that came before them.
Younger Millennials Gatekeeping Culture
First of all, obviously it is not ALL younger millennials who think like this, I live with my younger millennial sisters and they recognize what is Gen Z culture and what isn't, but I've seen a lot of this attitude online.Why are so many younger millennials in denial about certain things being Older Gen Z culture? I see comments saying "Gen Z will faint when they find out VHS tapes" or "Gen Z wouldn't recognize a CD if you showed it to them". In other cases I see them talk about how older Gen Z lack creativity, imagination and are simply "inferior" (Classic Instagram reels comment).
It just comes across as ignorant, embarrassing and condescending. I don't know if these people genuinely think that or they have this superiority complex about them that makes them think like this.I've also never understood why some younger millennials are so keen on gatekeeping childhood experiences, cultural movements etc from older Gen Z, despite the fact most of us had a similar childhood and teenage years. Part of me thinks they do this because they dislike the fact that they have to share a lot of stuff with us, but then part of me thinks they genuinely believe all of us were born in like 2014.
I know it's "not that deep", but clearly it is in some respects if these young millennials who spend their whole day on TikTok trying desperately trying to gatekeep Older Gen Z culture rather than focusing on their own generation's issues.
Older Gen Z is 1997-2003.

after being on dating/friend apps for like 3 weeks ive learned that gen z sucks at talking to people. its always "me me me" and no reciprocation and im always interviewing them or they're extremely dry. and when you DO find somebody ur age who has potential to hang out with in person they answer texts every other day. most of the time i vibe with people older than me but a lot of millenials are not on those apps or they are but wont try to be friends with a 20 y/o which is understandable.
IM UNINSTALLING EVERYTHING AND IM JUST GONNA STICK WITH THE 5 FRIENDS I GOT AND WHATEVER HAPPENS IN MY FUTURE HAPPENS. and i cant do online friends 9 times outta 10 because i legit need in person connection or i cant be as invested unfortunately. fuck my fucking chungus life
