17.4, the penultimate workout of the Crossfit Open, has arrived. Let’s just get into it, shall we?
RESULT: I got 12 calories into the first row. This was a repeat of 16.4, a workout from last year. As usual, let’s talk about my strategy first. Basically, my plan was to go slow and steady, and try to survive to the HSPU, my only objective strength in all of Crossfit. Obviously, that didn’t happen. Rep strength is my nemesis, as is conditioning (no surprise there), but I was a little surprised by just how slow the deadlifts became (I did them in 5s, then 3s, then a ton of singles) and then the wallballs were an absolute shitshow. Coach Erin pointed out that wallballs are really a reflection of how much you practice wallballs (vs. a measure of your underlying cardio), and these were just a disaster. I crawled off the rower. Once again, not a very inspiring showing, but at least I only have one workout to go before I can say I at least got through them all RX’ed. Pray for me.
