two people who never even got to have a spoken conversation with the other. derek was a stranger to avery. derek only knew of averys existence because of the knowledge flooding his mind to the point of insanity. but both of them decided to do whatever it took to save the other. derek has knowledge of all avery was, is, and will be and saw how special avery is and wanted to make sure avery got that life. avery is even crazier cause he literally knows nothing about derek! besides the youtube video, avery doesn't have any personal knowledge about derek. avery is doing all of this just because derek tried to warn him! and that was all it took for avery to know that derek deserved to have someone find him and check if he was okay. derek told avery to stay away! to disconnect, to leave this place, smash the laptop, and never think of any of this, including him, again. but avery was never going to listen to that. he was going to stay. playing this game on new years eve when he could have been out celebrating a holiday that represents new beginnings. and despite the horrific things he read in that book that led him to be stuck at his desk for 12 hours just picking flowers and drowning himself. over and over again. he was going to stay by dereks side. because he knew derek wanted to save him, derek believed in him, so of course that would make avery want to save derek too. he never wanted someone who wanted to give him life to deal with dying alone. derek tried so hard to keep avery away. but avery wouldnt. avery wouldnt leave regardless of what he said. derek knew this. the king in yellow knew this. which is why derek had to take things into his own hands. why he had to trick avery into checking his inventory. derek knows avery and he knew he would fall for such a trick. and then derek finally fulfills his goal to protect avery. derek accepts his fate. even though derek was plagued with the knowledge of everything. dealing with the fact that the person who cared so much about him, to the point of disregarding the entire world for him, was someone he could only spend so little time with. he's okay with that. because avery is safe. and thats all he really wanted. but avery was never going to let derek be forgotten. he was never going to let what derek sacrificed to just disappear from his mind. he will edit this 15 hour video of the most traumatic experience in his life to make sure no one else goes through it again. to make sure derek is never forgotten. to make sure he has something of derek after the world file corrupts into nothing. because dereks "best decision" was the "worst mistake" of averys life. and avery will do everything to rectify it. avery loved derek despite knowing almost nothing about him. because derek really knew him. derek loved avery because he knew everything about how special he was. but he didn't really need a god to tell him that. Avery and Derek loved each other, and that love just happened to save the world.
