At the beginning D-16 and Orion have lots of similar shapes, most notably (to me) their rounded shoulders and the forehead bit of their helms. Orion's crest is even above the band which is so different because Optimus always has the crest right on his brow.

Then yk enter Act 2, they get their t cogs. It's a transition phase and their shapes show this as they start to differ from each other. Their helms no longer match like before, Orion's crest is on his brow and D-16 now has the start of that classic Megatron corner thing. Orion has kept all of his shape language, his round helm, his boxy chest, while D-16 has become more angular, the rounded front of his chest becoming all sharp edges and his helm in this halfway state with curves and angles. The only thing he keeps that's still similar to Orion really is the shoulders and some helm shapes. D-16 also now has hints of red and his helm (and hands?) is no longer a different color than the rest of him like Orion.

And THEN the changes previously mentioned are pressed even further as they become the final products we've been building to. Megatron has lost every similar shape to Orion, and is almost completely unrecognizable as D-16, but Optimus is still clearly Orion Pax, he never changed he just grew and it makes me SICK!!
