@autisticlittleguy to be fair, even if he WAS Cishetmale, I feel like a big part of Jax is him being a cautionary tale of what happens when someone is too stubborn to seek help despite being offered it. You're also talking about a place where none of these people have access to therapy. They HAVE to deal with their issues themselves and by making connections. They have no other choice, nobody else to go to. They can't even leave. It's only them and Caine and that's IT. And NONE of them are trained therapists, they're all just people trying their best to deal with a bad situation. And if they aren't careful, if they hold onto a grudge too tightly or blow up too much at someone like a person would normally, they could accidentally either push themselves or someone else to death of personality turning them into an aggressive monster.
They HAVE to work together and overcome their issues or die. That's the point. And Jax isn't willing to do that.
Trans or not, none of this really makes what Jax did OK of course. He very much is NOT a completely innocent woobie at all. He could have chosen to be better at any point. But it does make it understandable, human, and interesting. And he's still a person who deserves to live, who deserves a chance to do better, who has the POTENTIAL to do better. Cishet or queer. Wherher he's a good person or not. Whether he's brave enough to take it or not. And it does add to the tragedy of him basically being his own worst enemy, pushing everyone away and refusing to change until it was too late. I also kind of think that's unfortunately ALSO part of the reason Jax is afraid to come out of his cope or take accountability even when it's given.
I don't think he could take the guilt of admitting he's a real person who hurt real people and could have chosen to do differently but didn't out of fear. He's not brave or strong enough for that, which is EXACTLY the problem. Sometiming ALOT of people deal with regardless of gender or sexuality that stops them from doing better, which in turn stops them from being able to grow and pushes them further into dispair. And even those that do want to help them can't do that unless the person WANTS to change.
Which is a good message and something that should be said. Him being trans adds nuance to it, but ultimately it would have been a similar story with a similar message without that.
