Do you think dratchet and megarod would go on a double date?? Thinking about drift and roddy sitting across the table from each other...
*chuckle* This isn't the first time I've answered this question! Clearly it's an image that charms. I've spoken before about the accidental double dates of Dratchet and Megarod; the four of them sharing a table by happenstance, the nature of their configuration and all that it implies hanging in the air above them like a wasp.
What I haven't discussed is the way Megatron observes Ratchet and Drift. He studies them cautiously, avariciously, like a hungry child come upon the table of a fairy banquet. Here is something he's never tasted, that his nature forbids him to have, and that he instantly, helplessly covets. It's no secret that he admires Ratchet and has endeavoured to emulate him in more than one respect. He doesn't want what Ratchet has, exactly: he wants to be what Ratchet is. Could he become that kind of person? The kind of person who is a home for another?
At one point, Drift -- Deadlock! -- exclaims in a tone Megatron has never heard before, "Oh, Ratty, look at these adorable little squashes!" while beside him Rodimus ignores his food and shreds his napkin into confetti. Megatron feels an unfamiliar pang. He notes it, compares it briefly to other forms of pain, and files it away for future study, understanding that it will be important to him later.
