Thereâs actually something so sickening about Clark crashing out when Dick takes over as Batman and wears the suit. Dude flipped out and lost it on his favorite Robin, the kid he and Bruce helped raise together. He screams in his face and fucking crashes out because heâs grieving Bruce and here is Batman standing right in front of him but itâs not him. And it should be easier to bear that transition because itâs Dick, but it isnât.
also this reddit comment I found when looking for additional panels took me out at the knees:
Diana must always be TALL and JACKED
Bruce must always be SHARP and ANGULAR
Clark must always be BIG and SOFT
Question: Is Batman Triggered by Guns?
Answer: Sometimes.
From my vague memory of the hundreds of Batman comics I've read, Bruce (depending on the writer; some never write him as being triggered while others do) is consistently triggered by the context, not necessarily just the gun.
(He spends the rest of the comic spiraling wheeee)
Certain writers will have him responding differently, but it seems that he is triggered pretty consistently involving any combination of at least two factors mirroring the event: gun + person he knows + child + alleyway + civilian mode.
Interestingly enough, he doesn't really care about being shot himself. He's afraid of not saving someone, whether he intimately cares about them or not.
Comics referenced are:
Brian Azzarello's Broken City, Legends of the Dark Knight #79, Batman Adventures Vol. 4, Detective Comics #439, Batman #380, and Batman: Kings of Fear.
cruelty is so easy. youre not special for choosing it
"The trouble is that we have a bad habit, encouraged by pedants and sophisticates, of considering happiness as something rather stupid. Only pain is intellectual, only evil interesting. This is the treason of the artist; a refusal to admit the banality of evil and the terrible boredom of pain."
-Ursula K. LeGuin, The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas
"Evil is boring. Right? I kinda believe in the banality and mundaneness of evil. Evil is just selfish impulses, which at the end of the day are really easy to understand. Itâs easy to understand why people do bad things. Itâs like âyeah, ok, youâre selfish and scared and cruel, I get itâ. Being good is complex and beautiful and hard." - Brennan Lee Mulligan
"How monotonously alike all the great tyrants and conquerors have been: how gloriously different are the saints." --C.S. Lewis

duke thomas spends 10+ years getting comics and growth and plot and hes "too new" and people "dont know him well enough". superboy prime gets five minutes of character development and hes suddenly a fan favorite getting shipped with every character under the sun. i hate this fandom.
Wish - Batman had a wish. He had a strong need for something. It was more important than his other wishes. What did he wish for? What did he want very much? He wished that everyone in the world would be good.
I just got so angry at a tiktok comment dude oh ny god. I had to remind myself of the space around me to calm down. This attatchment to batman isnt very healthyđ
Things i am doing tomorrow (or today, technically. Its 2:40 AM)

- picking up project hail mary from the library (yay)
- buying a badminton set (yay)
- begin working on my presentation thats literally due in 2 days and is worth 40% of my grade (nay...)
Queen maeve is so beautiful. Im glad i havent been spoiled on her ending yet (like i have with everything else in the boys). Shes so gorgeous. I really want to see nsfw art of her đ but im terrified of searching something up and getting spoilers. Well, after this week my semester is finally over, and i can start watching the boys again. I hope the next 4 seasons live up to the amazingness of season 1, or at least are somewhat good

Currently reading Bruce Wayne: Murderer/Fugitive and I can't stop thinking about Dick confronting Bruce:
Batman (1940) #600
Cause like. I think in that moment Dick got the closest to getting through to Bruce.
But also the thing is, this happens not that long after Dick gets adopted, and this is something that is very much on Dick's mind during this whole mess:
Gotham Knights #26
And you know what? I think there was something that Dick, and only Dick, could have said to Batman to actually get him to not throw the Bruce Wayne identity away. Something along the lines:
"You don't get to take my father away from me."
Because that's antithetical to Batman. Batman is someone who, more than anything, wants to prevent what happened to Bruce in Crime Alley from happening to anyone else. Discarding the identity of Bruce Wayne would make Dick an orphan again, this time by Batman's own hand. And so, for the Batman to exist, Bruce Wayne's existance is vital.
the greatest thing about uni so far is that i can simply skip class whenever i want as none of my classes have mandated attendance. it is so, so lovely...
If DC had any sense, they would compile all of Dan Watters' earlier short stories which were hitherto confined only to anthologies and one-shots.
I mean if the easily missed "Gunsmith" story in a random issue of Batman: Secret Files isn't one of the most topical and relevant observations on Batman....
It starts with a shooting spree and a child hostage situation at a Wayne Foundation funded Weapons Amnesty program where people could hand in illegal weapons without facing any repercussions. The antagonist disagrees with the program. Who is he and why does he disagree?
Well.
The Gunsmith does what villains do - puts a gun in the hand of the older brother of the child he's abducted and tasks him with shooting Batman to save his brother. Which he does - Batman is wounded but takes the gun from the boy. Then Batman does what Batman does, goes after the villain but obviously chooses to rescue the other child over pursuing the villain. Routine textbook Batman stuff.
But then we have these panels.
If Dan Watters doesn't get a full fledged multi-year Batman run someday, DC will have wasted the potential of one of the BEST talents they've managed to get in the last decade.

Detective Comics Annual #3 - âChaos Theoryâ
written by Brian Buccallato art by Werther DellâEdera, Jorge Fornes, & Scott Hepburn
#NOW WHY CANâT YOU FUCKING TALK TO YOUR KIDS LIKE THIS YOU ABSOLUTE SHIT
Because he is not being well-written? This is the Bruce I consider canon.
^THIS. My personal headcanon of Bruce will always be someone who struggles with fatherhood and has made mistakes, but is overall a good father. I hate when writers cross the line into making him abusive.
Bolded, because â fuck, yes.
Thereâs a bit in Darwyn Cookeâs New Frontier that always stays with me â a moment when Bruce is first starting out where he goes to help a small child, and canât, because he accidentally frightens the boy too badly.
It nearly breaks him.
And another bit in, IIRC, Robin Annual #4, written by Chuck Dixon and penciled, I believe, by Jason Armstrong, where a freshly be-Robined Dick asks Alfred haltingly *why* Bruce wants to have him around, and Alfred lays it out â âMaster Bruce has very few real friends. And while he most certainly became a man⌠I donât think he ever became an adult.â
And then thereâs Gotham Knights #32, a Devin Grayson/Robinson joint â their last I believe â where Bruce just goes to everyone he loves â *everyone* â and silently, lurkingly, subtly loves them. As best as he can. From the people heâs helped to his family â to Harvey.
And then there are those DCAU eps where he bends over backwards to build new lives for people like Harley and Arnold Wesker.
And all that time and effort he spent making sure Tim could be with Ariana, and then Steph, and then the Titans â because he *recognized* all the ways heâd fucked up in the past.
And then thereâs the time when he tried to give Cass a birthday, even though he had no idea when it could be, and then sharing *Jay* with her, his dearest, closest-held *memories* of Jay, when he couldnât with anyone else. (That second one was DetC, Gabrych run.)
And pouring his heart out to Steph on that rooftop, way back when, while Steph was in a state of 0.0.
And EVERY time Dick â fuck. Well, the entire DCU knows how he feels about DICK. INCLUDING DICK HIMSELF, WHEN DICK IS NOT DEPRESSED.
And Clark, at least, considers his love for Lois precisely the same as Bruceâs love for Jay.
Clark, who Bruce holds in his soul, trusting him above all others. His brother â in some ways.
And Barbara â the woman he respects more than anyone else. The woman he trusts behind the scenes for the motherfucking *JLA* systems. The woman who calls him âbossâ and means anything but. And he loves it that way. Look at the way Devin writes them together. The way Beatty writes them together. The way Simone writes them together. Fucking *A*.
And Damian! GOD! The son who was *denied* to him for *years*. The son who was *tortured* and *wronged* and led astray for so many years â and who is yet so beautiful inside, and so devoted to so much *right*. How can he not do his best by him? Even if he doesnât know what that is, he has to *try*.
And so on. And so on.
Just â all of these moments.
Because Bruce is a good man, and a loving man, and a *kind* man, and he wants to make it better for *everyone* â even the people who fuck up and make things worse for everyone else. Because he recognizes his own capacities for failure, his own *fuck-ups*.
And he loves his family, his friends, Gotham, the *world*. He *loves* them. And he does not place himself above⌠anyone.
Not when heâs written anything like correct..
How do I discard all that other canon? Well, how do you discard the canon that doesnât make any goddamned sense about *your* faves? The fact that I have to put up with *more* bullshit doesnât make the bullshit less bullshitty.
It just means I need a bigger shovel.
*points to the one in the corner*
On Tumblr, every character gets the excuse of bad writing except Bruce. Heâs always fully blamed for anything any hack decides to write. And I get it! Tumblr users, at least the ones Iâm in contact with, consist greatly of people whose lives are made worse by rich, white, powerful men, and itâs understandable that the first knee-jerk reaction to a character whoâs the ultimate macho fantasy is dislike, especially when text makes him precisely that kind of asshole. When I first started reading DC, most of the things I read featured Bruce only in passing, and in a pretty bad light, so I didnât like him *at all* before I read all those comics Te mentioned, and a ton of other stuff where heâs actually a complex, compelling, fallible, *human* character. And the more I read, the more firmly heâs established himself as my absolute fave. Thing is, Bruce has (at least) two very different fandoms: one that likes Batman, the loner who punches people, and one that likes Batman, the family man who helps people. DC (or whoever owns the franchise) prefers to cater to Batman fans that are into the grimdark power fantasy, because that one sells better. It sells the big moneymakers, like movies and video games. For us who love a different Bruce, they donât really give a fuck. But you know what? I wonât acknowledge, say, Beechenâs Cass or Willinghamâs Tim as my canon, and I sure as hell wonât acknowledge the Bruce written by any bad writer with a hard-on for the kind of stories that makes no sense to the character as I understand him. But to return to the original âwhy canât you talk to your kids like thisâ: he can. He does. When written well. Itâs not like his kids love him as much as they do for no reason, and no, itâs not caused by emotional manipulation or some shit. Itâs also interesting that *Alfred* is never questioned for what kind of a father figure he was, and how many hugs *he* didnât give Bruce growing up. He could have easily resigned from his position and left the lonely orphan to his own devices, but chose not to. You know who else did the same thing? Bruce. He watched a boyâs parents die, his heart went to him and he couldnât leave him. So he gave him a purpose, a home and the best childhood he could imagine. I firmly believe that he tried hard and did his best in his role as a parent, they both did. It wasnât always good, but it was what he knew, and what he learned along the way. (Which is *another reason* on top of all others that makes me mad they murdered Damian: here you had a chance to tell a whole new kind of story about Bruce, a Bruce who was finally somewhat mature and have him raise a young kid with all the experience he had, but you go with the tried and true death of a child to give him angst and erase any history of him ever having a true family.) tl;dr, Bruce is my favourite and I you should give him a chance, heâs really great.
these are the good people HOLD THEM TIGHT
dc comics heritage post
they could never make me hate you good dad bruce wayne
theres a light at the end of our Bruce Wayne fan tunnel⌠its a long tunnel, but theres a light. I have to believe it, the way Bruce believes in the best in people.
THIS is what Bruce is meant to be: a force of justice and goodness in the darkness, that is filled with so much compassion for everyone who is down on their luck. And specially to his family.
He is called the Dark KNIGHT for this very reason.
I feel like when people point out that Bruce has more bullshit moments than their faves they forget to factor in that Batman literally has THE MOST APPEARANCES of all superheroes. Ofc he has more instances of bad writing, itâs only proportional to how often he appears on page
Of all the weird contrivances that superhero media have by virtue of genre, I think the no-kill rule is one of the easiest to justify. "Why don't these paragons of virtue extrajudicially murder people?" fuck dude, I wonder.
