Hate it when people act like I have no empathy or compassion for victims when I express disapproval of the death penalty or voice my support of prison reform. I'm so sorry I don't want to gleefully murder people or completely remove all chances of rehabilitation for them regardless of what they did. I must be the weird one here. đ
do you think the catholic church effectively utilized wokeness by funneling money into the colonization and rape of the americas after issuing the doctrine of discovery which effectively legalized the subjugation of indigenous peoples?
The Catholic Church is very woke as long as you ignore its stances on gay people, trans people, women's rights, gender equality, child sexual abuse, antisemitism, racism . . .
But hey, they pay lip service to how cool it is to be poor and humble (ignore the fact that the church is one of the richest organizations on Earth), they eventually stopped torturing people for having different religions or making scientific discoveries that contradicted the bible, and the last pope implied that maybe all gay people aren't all baby-murdering predators hellbent on bringing about the downfall of Western civilization.
See? Woke!
Hey man you. You got a bit of something there.

Sorry about the last misogynystic vaguepost. It's definitely not just a female character thing. I've been frustrated with a very niche fandom I will never reveal because I would be definitely doxxing myself for both not centering the female protagonist one of my favorite characters ever but also using that argument and just leaving it at that, which in my opinion, doesn't sway people towards favoring her. Really, I should be more frustrated at the people that center male characters over her, and should also not make vagueposts considering I am not going to reveal what I'm talking about ever on here.

The headquarters is going to Utah. Every regional office is being shuttered. The research program is being destroyed.
âMore than fifty research and development facilities across thirty-one states. Gone. Consolidated into a single location in Fort Collins, Colorado. And âconsolidatedâ is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence, because what it actually means is that decades of place-based, long-term ecological researchâthe kind that literally cannot exist anywhere else because it depends on specific forests, specific watersheds, specific ecosystems studied over generationsâwill be snuffed out.
You cannot move a thirty-year watershed study. You cannot relocate a decades-long old-growth monitoring program. You cannot box up a forest and ship it to Colorado. When these facilities close, the experiments die. The datasets end. The partnerships with universities that took generations to build collapse. And the institutional knowledge of the scientists who ran those programs walks out the door, because the administration damn well knows most of them wonât follow a forced relocation to a single consolidated office that has nothing to do with the ecosystems theyâve spent their careers studying.â
Nine regional offices. 57 research labs. 193 million acres. An interactive map of what was lost.
Call your senators. Both of them. Tell them the Forest Service reorganization is proceeding without the congressional approval required by Section 716 of the Agriculture Appropriations Act and Section 421 of the Interior Appropriations Act. Use those numbers. Say them out loud. Staffers write down what they donât recognize, and these are the provisions their bosses voted for.
If your senator is a Republican, the question is simple: you voted for a law that requires USDA to get committee approval before reorganizing or relocating any office. USDA didnât get that approval. Their own lawyers declared your law unconstitutional. What are you going to do about it?
If your senator is a Democrat, the question is just as simple: the legal basis for stopping this already exists. Where are the subpoenas? Where are the hearings? Why is USDAâs general counsel allowed to declare a duly enacted law unconstitutional by internal memo and face no consequences?
Make them answer. Make their staff write it down. Call back next week and ask what happened.

Sarafina is a book that tries to be about female empowerment, but it fails to deliver a story about female empowerment because the female characters are STILL sidelined heavily for men.

I see posts that talk about how much they love characters that are 'bad people.' Then I look into the notes and it's filled with characters who are portrayed as very normal people who do shitty things sometimes or on a continuous basis because of scary or bad circumstances, and I feel very judgemental, but also what is your definition of a 'good person' if normal human people doing normal human stuff are 'bad?'
