Jonathan Joss was an Indigenous, gay man who was murdered on the first day of Pride month as well as Indigenous History Month. He died protecting his trans husband. Homophobia and racism aren’t marks of the past, and this is a heart breaking reminder of that.
Praying for a safe journey back to the spirit world, Uncle ❤️🩹🦅
Today is the anniversary of the death of Jonathan Joss (King of the Hill, Parks and Rec). Jonathan Joss was an Indigenous, gay man who died protecting his transgender husband, on the first day of Pride month. Today we remember him and how he protected his family.
it’s so special to me that so much of fan culture is textual analysis for the love of the game. like thank god there are people in my phone who are also thinking about this thing i love so much that they are writing transformative fiction as character studies and setting clips of the show to music with theme-relevant lyrics and writing long text posts analyzing every line of dialogue like!! yay!!!
role swap? age swap?
in happier pride news i actually found this deeply heartwarming
that's solidarity baybeeee
Further context: Durham city council (Reform UK) cut funding and support for Pride. The Durham Miner's Association and other trade unions raised enough money for Durham Pride 2026 to go ahead - a direct call back to when Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) raised money for mining communities when Margaret Thatcher seized union funding during the miner strikes of 1984-85.
At the 1985 Labour party meet, the motion to support LGBT rights as a party was passed due to a block vote from mining unions.
Stephen Guy, the chair of the Durham Miners’ Association, said that when it became apparent Durham Pride was under threat, he took it upon himself to “encourage the trade union movement to step up and do the right thing, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the LGBT+ community […] They not only raised funds for us, but came to our communities, uplifted our spirits when they were down, and showed their solidarity.”

Microaggressions against polyamory in interpersonal interactions are important and should be discussed, but I do wish more of the conversation focused on the ways that systemic amatonormativity impact things like family units, taxes, healthcare, inheritances, housing, childcare, etc.
I'm not dating or married or related to anyone I live with, and our household of four adults can't get any kind of financial or food or housing aid because we count as three separate households despite our semi-blended finances and living together for a decade. There are laws that have been proposed (at least, I don't know if any passed) that limit housing to nuclear families.
Amatonormativity and polyphobia are not just theoretical "people are kinda mean about this sometimes" -- they are real and materially impactful systemic issues, and they affect all of us.

i have just like fully given up on symmetry in my art because i know if i try i will die. i hope it comes across as a cool stylistic choice and not me just sucking lol
so excited for her return
And you know what, speaking of Superboy Prime, at some point we may need to interrogate why “violent, misanthropic white man gets forgiven and praised for his growth after apologizing in a way that specifically does not invalidate his masculinity” is such a popular, quickly latched-onto narrative.
And perhaps we should interrogate who that narrative is for.
Damian has literally been sent to hell. Tara has been treated like...Tara by basically every narrative she has ever been in. To this day, people still refuse to acknowledge their growth, their nuance, or the lack of agency baked into their circumstances.
But then you get a willing, spiteful mass murderer who spends five dubious minutes posing as less of an asshole, and suddenly he is the freshest, hottest concept in comics. We simply must root for him. We must celebrate his growth. We must ignore the continuity of his crimes. And if you point out that he has, in fact, done horrific things on purpose, suddenly you’re “taking comics too seriously.”
Interesting.
Redemption arcs are not the problem. Growth is not the problem. Characters with blood on their hands becoming better is not the problem.
The problem is how quickly some fans recognize humanity, nuance, pain, and potential in a violent white male power fantasy, while treating characters like Damian, Talia, Tara, and plenty of others as permanently defined by their worst context, their worst writing, or their least charitable interpretation. Even Diana suffers from this and she didn't even really do anything wrong--
What could possibly cause people to project so hard into that archetype?
In this political climate?
Truly, we can only wonder...
Batman? Eh he’s some character from a comic or some shit… what, you said BatGIRL? Well she was originally created as the sidekick of Batwoman in 1961 after the Comics Code Authority pressured the introduction of a Batgirl (hyphenated back then, Bat-Girl) but the Batgirl in most modern media was created in 1966 where—
Duke is not that interesting as a character for bat family dynamics
first of all, not true. second, this isn't what my post was about! third, adding to family dynamics isnt the only value a character can have? superboy prime certainly doesn't and since he was the comparison character i don't think duke needs it either. anyway i frankly don't care why anyone doesnt like duke thomas, keep it in the notes or make your own post.

fave ted comics?
wah.... hard question to answer... i have so many opinions about him.
so obviously first of all blue beetle (1986). it is thee defining ted book. i love jli but as a ted book? 😬 it's. very mixed. necessary reading but it shouldn't be your first book for him. possibly one of my hottest takes is that on characterization i generally prefer jurgens jla (excluding what he did to ice). i also have mixed feelings on ted's 60s stuff because of ditko's... very prominent politics, mostly good tho.
but! individual issues: i really like the mini arc in mister miracle #7-8, jlq #7 & jla annual #6 both have great spotlight stories, all-new atom #14 has weirdly good ted characterization??, and i of course adore all of his bop appearances. ive also been very much enjoying his current jlu appearances. oh and all of his appearances in captain atom! absolutely delightful.
there are 1milllion+ comics and yep you have to read all of them.
what this post is not (❌🚫) saying: you have to read all of the comics from one specific franchise/series/publisher/etc.
what this post is (✅💬) saying: you have to read every comic ever.
